Simsbury Trojan Football 2008 with 2009 cov- er, etc. Welcome to the 2009 Simsbury High School Football Season

Fall is here and another exciting year of Simsbury High School football is upon us. There is much positive news from the Simsbury High School Trojans Football program. Coach Jeff Osborne and his staff have dedicated themselves in the offseason to continually improving the high school program through efforts such as off season weight training programs (for football and non football players alike), the popular Summer Passing League, and two excellent summer team football camp experiences. Coach Osborne also reached out again to the youth programs in Simsbury and the surrounding area, offering a football fundamentals camp in July.

The local Simsbury Youth Football scene is healthy and growing. This fall the two town youth football programs have almost 250 football players registered for their 2009 seasons. Both teams were excited to have alumni (who now play for the SHS Trojans) come back to visit during their summer training camps.

For 2009, the SHS football program will again foster total program unity by having all ages practice together, allowing our players to learn from the same offensive and defensive platforms from their freshman through senior years. Turnout for 2009 SHS football has been tremendous; a total of 115 students will be participating, with 40 freshman, 30 sophomores, and 45 upper classmen in the mix. Coach Osborne and his staff will take their Varsity, JV and Freshman squads into one of the toughest eight game regular season schedules in recent memory.

The Simsbury Gridiron Club (SGC) is a booster club for football in Simsbury and, in particular, our high school program. Our common goal is to ensure that the students participating in all levels of football in our community have a safe, fun, and successful season. SGC raises money for necessary equipment, scholarships, and resources not funded by the Board of Education that help sustain a strong and competitive high school football program. The Gridiron Club is managed by volunteers and all of the net proceeds benefit the football program. In the past, the Simsbury Gridiron Club has raised money to fund additional coaching staff, our new scoreboard, the new weight room, camera & communication equipment, along with a variety of other necessary equipment for players, coaches, and the practice field.

We want to publicly thank our sponsors (listed in this program) and encourage everyone in the community to shop locally and patronize these fine businesses. Without this support, we would not be able to produce a quality football product year in and year out. Lastly, we urge anyone interested in Simsbury Football to visit our website at simsburygridiron.org become a member of the Simsbury Gridiron Club, and get involved in its booster activities.

The Simsbury Football Family has built a solid program that is only sustainable with your help and volunteerism. Let’s make this upcoming season one of the best ever for our boys.

Best of Luck to the 2009 Trojans!

Simsbury football is experiencing a healthy transition period. With youth football larger than ever in town and new facilities at the high school; the condition of Simsbury football is strong. It is a privilege for me to be part of this program and I am very lucky to lead 115 fine young men into the 2007 campaign. I have many short and long term goals for the program. Most importantly we are an integral part of this community and the coaching staff hopes to teach these young men how to also succeed in life and be quality citizens. Our football players are learning about commitment, leadership, and communication and not just the game of football. Competition is the essence of life and if our student-athletes constantly challenge themselves to compete at a high level, both in the classroom and on the field, they will gain a distinct advantage in life. Let’s go Trojans!!! Message from the Principal 2008 marks the second season for our new head coach, Jeff Osborne. He was the offensive coordinator for the Trojans for five seasons. Jeff continues the great traditions of SHS football while at the same time expressing his vi- sion for changes that would allow him to put his own stamp on the program. Indeed, we are fortunate at SHS to have many coaches like Mr. Osborne - educators who acknowledge that important lessons are taught both in the classroom and on the field.

Coach Osborne and his staff will bring an interesting mix of returning players and fresh faces to lineup this year as the Trojans compete for victories in the extremely competitive CCC North. We expect a season of great community support with a full slate of games “under the lights” at our school’s terrific all-purpose field.

The football program - like all of our interscholastic teams - is vitally im- portant to the mission of our school. In addition to developing these young men’s skills in areas of teamwork, leadership, and commitment, their participation in football should give them perspective about the importance of family and other priorities in their lives, especially the pursuit of academic excellence. Our student athletes are most successful at Simsbury High when they strike a bal- ance between effort in the classroom and effort on the field. For many years, that balance has been the hallmark of SHS football.

Thanks to Coach Osborne and all of his assistants for their incredible commitment to these students. I also want to thank the players at all levels of the program for continuing the tradition of representing Simsbury High through their sportsmanship, respect, and hard play. I hope that you all enjoy a great sea- son of Trojan football.

Neil Sullivan, Principal

Message from the Athletic Director I would like to thank all those involved in the Simsbury High School football community for the opportunity to be part of a program that is so rich in tradition and success. As the fall 2008 football season gets under- way, we are all excited about the completion of our new track and field project. With the installation of field lighting along with the artificial turf field, Simsbury now ranks as one of the top game facilities in the state. I would like to wish our coaches and players the best of luck throughout the entire season. It is through your participation that Simsbury High School gains its identity and creates a common bond between other schools. Your representation is important, as you are ambassadors for our school, and for that we thank and commend you.

I would also like to offer a special thanks to our seniors for your commit- ment and dedication over these four years. I am certain that through your efforts and leadership the 2008 football team will once again be very suc- cessful.

To our spectators, we hope that you enjoy the season and support our pro- gram in a spirit of competition that will bring pride and respect to our team, school, and community.
