Simsbury Trojan Football 2009 Welcome to the 2009 Simsbury High School Football Season

Fall is here and another exciting year of Simsbury High School football is upon us. There is much positive news from the Simsbury High School Trojans Football program. Coach Jeff Osborne and his staff have dedicated themselves in the offseason to continually improving the high school program through efforts such as off season weight training programs (for football and non football players alike), the popular Summer Passing League, and two excellent summer team football camp experiences. Coach Osborne also reached out again to the youth programs in Simsbury and the surrounding area, offering a football fundamentals camp in July.

The local Simsbury Youth Football scene is healthy and growing. This fall the two town youth football programs have almost 250 football players registered for their 2009 seasons. Both teams were excited to have alumni (who now play for the SHS Trojans) come back to visit during their summer training camps.

For 2009, the SHS football program will again foster total program unity by having all ages practice together, allowing our players to learn from the same offensive and defensive platforms from their freshman through senior years. Turnout for 2009 SHS football has been tremendous; a total of 115 students will be participating, with 40 freshman, 30 sophomores, and 45 upper classmen in the mix. Coach Osborne and his staff will take their Varsity, JV and Freshman squads into one of the toughest eight game regular season schedules in recent memory.

The Simsbury Gridiron Club (SGC) is a booster club for football in Simsbury and, in particular, our high school program. Our common goal is to ensure that the students participating in all levels of football in our community have a safe, fun, and successful season. SGC raises money for necessary equipment, scholarships, and resources not funded by the Board of Education that help sustain a strong and competitive high school football program. The Gridiron Club is managed by volunteers and all of the net proceeds benefit the football program. In the past, the Simsbury Gridiron Club has raised money to fund additional coaching staff, our new scoreboard, the new weight room, camera & communication equipment, along with a variety of other necessary equipment for players, coaches, and the practice field.

We want to publicly thank our sponsors (listed in this program) and encourage everyone in the community to shop locally and patronize these fine businesses. Without this support, we would not be able to produce a quality football product year in and year out. Lastly, we urge anyone interested in Simsbury Football to visit our website at www.simsburygridiron.org become a member of the Simsbury Gridiron Club, and get involved in its booster activities.

The Simsbury Football Family has built a solid program that is only sustainable with your help and volunteerism. Let’s make this upcoming season one of the best ever for our boys.

Best of Luck to the 2009 Trojans!

Welcome to Simsbury High School and to Central ConnecticutConference (CCC) football. With last year’s run to the state playoffs, Simsbury football is on the rise, and Coach Osborne’s Trojans are ready to compete in Division I of the newly aligned conference. The competition will be tough, but Simsbury football is absolutely ready tobattle some of the best teams in the state. There’s certainly something special about high school football played under the lights - it gives our student-athletes a showcase, brings spirit to the school, and, most importantly, unites the community. We are proud to host these games and to celebrate our school’s important place in the town of Simsbury. Of course, we present our student-athletes in exactly that order: students first, athletes second. It’s highly unlikely that any of our athletes will ever play on a professional level. Our goal is to have them use the lessons of sportsmanship, hard work, sacrifice, fairness, and teamwork as they transition into adulthood. Wins will always be a measure of success, but they must be accompanied by integrity. In that regard, we know that Simsbury High School has the right recipe. Thanks for coming. Enjoy the game! Neil Sullivan Principal

Message from the Athletic Director I would like to thank all those involved in the Simsbury High School football community for the opportunity to be part of a program that is so rich in tradition and success. I would like to wish our coaches and players the best of luck throughout the entire season. It is through your participation that Simsbury High School gains its identity and creates a common bond between other schools. Your representation is important, as you are ambassadors for our school, and for that we thank and com- mend you.

I would also like to offer a special thanks to our seniors for your com- mitment and dedication over these four years. I am certain that through your efforts and leadership the 2009 football team will once again be very successful.

To our spectators, we hope that you enjoy the season and support our program in a spirit of competition that will bring pride and respect to our team, school, and community.

John Domaingue, Director of Athletics Message from the Head Coach Greetings,

The Simsbury High School Trojans had a great season and ended the year with a 9-3 record and a birth in the state semi-finals. The program has had over 100 players on the team for the last four years. During that time frame 14 players have gone on to play football in college ranging from Division 1 to Division 3 institutions. The 2008 squad graduated 18 seniors, all of whom are enrolled in a four year institution this fall. On a community level, the team participated in two major service projects over the last year. The team helped clean up a town blight project in the fall and volunteered at the Autism Awareness Walk in the spring. Football is a great sport that gives all the young men who are involved a chance to become better people.

Jeff Osborne Head Football Coach, Simsbury High School
