HOLY CONVERSATIONS: As we progress on this, the third and final part of our Faith & Race study, we are praying to discern the next steps we will take. Foremost on our minds is how to share what we are learning with others, how to engage others effecvely and with love.

A key first step on that journey is to become real-world praconers of what we call “Holy Conversaon.” We have learned that a Holy Conversaon is so much more than a simple conversaon or a discussion … it is an Act of Worship. This is because our goal is not to change other peoples’ beliefs but to get to know and understand one another beer. And, in the process, we experience God’s Divine Presence.

You see, our faith teaches us that each and every one of us is created in God’s image. So, when we take the me to truly see one another, to dig deeper to understand not only what each other believes, but why … what life experiences have led each other to those beliefs … we see a glimpse of God! (admiedly an incomplete and imperfect glimpse but a glimpse, nonetheless!).

As Chrisans, we know to always listen to each other with respect. When we enter into Holy Conversaon, we enter into dialog with the same reverence as if we were entering a me of worship; so, we listen to each other with reverence. Moving from respect to reverence requires trust, takes me and involves pracce, including offering our undivided aenon, sharing our truth with love and kindness and welcoming many differing perspecves. Try it!

Next week, we will talk about Dialog and Acve Listening, which are wonderful tools for Holy Conversaons. Quesons? RSVP? Write to Rosemarie at [email protected]
