Itinerary Day 1 - July 26, 2022 : Seville - Merida

Reception at 10:00 am at the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville. Later we will visit the capital of , containing the most beautiful monumental conjunction, which includes the Cathedral, El Real Alcázar and The Archive of Indies, all declared a World Heritage Site. After lunch, we will enjoy a panoramic sightseeing of the and a tour to the famous Plaza de España, before boarding the Tren Al Ándalus. Welcome toast onboard the train, crew presentation and accommodation. Dinner on board, as we head for Merida, where we will spend the night. Day 2 - July 27, 2022 : Merida - Lisbon

We will start the morning, as every day, enjoying our delicious “à la carte” breakfast and buffet. Afterwards we will visit Merida, the ancient "Emerita Augusta" with one of the most important and extensive archaeological sites in Spain. Declared a World Heritage Site. Lunch in a typical Extremeño Restaurant. In the afternoon we will get back to the train to start our way to Portugal.

Dinner on board and overnight in Lisbon. Day 3 - July 28, 2022 : Lisbon - Porto After breakfast, we will visit the Monastery of Los Jerónimos, a World Heritage Site, the Tower of Belem and the Monument to the Discoverers, then we will have a panoramic tour of the city and have our lunch in a Typical Restaurant. In the afternoon we will focus our activity on the city center and its neighborhoods, spending some free time. Dinner

Day 4 - July 29, 2022 : Porto After breakfast, we will go visit the upper neighborhood with its Cathedral. Then we will take a boat ride along the Douro River, also World Heritage. We will end in a wine cellar on the river banks. Typical Portuguese food in a Porto restaurant.

Dinner in the Evening at the hotel. while the train gets ready for the next part of the journey. Day 5 - July 30, 2022 : Tour of Porto and surrounding areas We have a special visit to a Winery today in the region where we will taste the local wine and food.

You may be able to get some free time to explore the city on your own. A Dinner with music entertainment for our guests.

Day 6 - July 31, 2022 : Porto and Cambados We will then go for a panaromic City Tour of Porto and lunch in a typical Portuguese restaurant. Later with the train, we will arrive in Spain and we will go to visit in the area of the Ría de Arousa a Batea de Mejillones (Oyster Farm) on the boat. We will then go to visit Cambados, cradle of the Albariño grapes and the famous wine region near Rias Baixas. We will have dinner in the region with typical Spanish Dishes and wine. Day 7 - August 1, 2022 : Tour of Santiago de Compostela Today we travel to Santiago de Compostela. After your arrival in Santiago de Compostela you will have time for a walking tour around the cathedral. Free time in the afternoon. Santiago de Compostela is a city full of charming corners (it was declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1985) and with many places to visit. Later this evening we will travel to León while we have dinner onboard the train. Overnight in León.

Day 8 - August 2, 2022 : Basílica de San Isidoro and travel to Castilla y León After breakfast, we will visit the city of León, on the Bernesga River in northwest Spain, capital of the Province of León. It’s home to many churches and cathedrals noted for their architecture and art. Among them is the Gothic 13th-century Catedral de Léon, with its towers and flying buttresses. The Romanesque 10th-century Basílica de San Isidoro is known for its frescoes and royal tombs. Lunch on board the train while arriving in Burgos. This beautiful city located in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. Burgos was selected as the "Spanish Gastronomy Capital" of 2013. In 2015 it was named "City of Gastronomy" by UNESCO. Guided city tour. Dinner and overnight in Burgos. Day 9 - August 3, 2022 : Atapuerca Museum of Human Evolution and Marques de Riscal Winery After breakfast we will visit the Museum of Human Evolution (Museo de la Evolución Humana) situated on the south bank of the river Arlanzón, in Burgos; located roughly 16 kilometers west of the Sierra de Atapuerca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and location of some of the most important human fossil finds in the world. Lunch on board while we arrive in Logroño, transfer to Elciego (Eltziego) where we will visit the famous winery "Bodega del Marques de Riscal" with Wine Tasting and Sightseeing at its original hotel. Day 10 - August 4, 2022 : Zaragoza and Barcelona Early this morning we will be transferred to Zaragoza while we enjoy breakfast on board the train. Panoramic city tour, visit Plaza del Pilar and Palacio de la Alfajería. Lunch on board while we headed to our last destination the city of Barcelona where we will leave the train and our guide will take us to our hotel after a panaromic tour of the city where the tour will end. We have optional extension available for guests that want to stay extra few days in Barcelona.

Destination Information Barcelona Barcelona is the capital and of the Autonomous Community of and the second largest city in Spain. Founded as a Roman city, Barcelona today is an important cultural center and a major tourist destination with a rich cultural heritage. Particularly renowned architectural works include the iconic designed by Mies van der Rohe; the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família by Antoni Gaudí; and the work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The Barri Gòtic ("Gothic Quarter") is the center of the old city of Barcelona where many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Barcelona is home to 68 municipal , with the 45 urban parks alone covering 10% of the city.

Burgos Burgos is a city of northern Spain, at the edge of the central plateau. To enter the old part of the city, pass through the impressive Arco de Santa María into the Plaza Del Rey San Fernando, home of Spain's finest Gothic Cathedral which completely dominates the center of the . Burgos is rich in ancient churches and convents. The three most notable are the cathedral, with its chapel of the Condestables de Castilla, the monastery of Las Huelgas, and the Carthusian monastery of Miraflores. The Convento de la Merced, occupied by the Jesuits, and the Hospital del Rey are also of historic and architectural interest.

León The city of León is the capital of León province in the autonomous community of Castile and León in the Northwest of Spain. León is the last major city along the or "Way of St. James", which makes it common to see from all over the world walking through the city. León is especially famous for its gothic cathedral and medieval and Roman architectural legacy, such as the Real Colegiata de San Isidoro, San Marcos, and the Roman wall surrounding the old part of the city which dates back to the 1st century BC. The narrow, almost labyrinth-like medieval streets make the old part of the city remain very true to its original look. The new part stands in stark contrast to the old, full of modern and contemporary buildings such as Gaudi's Casa de Botines and the new MUSAC, the Castile and León Museum of Contemporary Art.

Lisbon

Perched on the edge of the , Lisbon is one of the rare Western European cities that faces the ocean and uses water as an element that defines the city. Lisbon enchants travelers with its white bleached limestone buildings, intimate alleyways, and an easy going charm that makes it a popular year round destination. The city of Lisbon is rich in architecture; Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, , Traditional Portuguese, Modern and Post-Modern constructions can be found all over the city. The monument to Christ the King (Cristo Rei) stands with open arms overlooking the whole city.

Logroño Logroño is a city in northern Spain, on the Ebro River. Logroño is an important center of trade for Rioja wine, for which the area is noted. In the Old Town there are many churches worth visiting, including the Cathedral La Redonda, the Romanic Church of San Bartolome and the church of Santiago that is visited by pilgrims in their way to Santiago de Compostela.

Merida Mérida, the capital of western Spain's region, was founded by the Romans in the 1st century B.C. Remains of the ancient city include the still-used Teatro Romano, which has a double tier of columns rising onstage. The ancient Puente Romano, a 792m bridge spanning the Río Guadiana, adjoins the Alcazaba, a 9th-century Islamic fortress built over Roman walls.

Porto Porto, also Oporto in English, is Portugal's second largest city and capital of the Norte region. The city was built along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary, and its historical center was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1996. It has been continuously inhabited since at least the 4th Century, when the Romans referred to it as Portus Calle. Among the architectural highlights of the city, Oporto Cathedral is the oldest surviving structure, together with the small Romanesque Church of Cedofeita, the gothic Igreja de São Francisco, the remnants of the city walls and a few 15th-century houses.

Santiago de Compostela Santiago de Compostela is the of , Spain, and is the jewel in its historic and medieval crown. The city has world heritage status, and the 9th century Cathedral itself is the final destination for thousands of Christian pilgrims who traverse the "Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago)" across Galicia in order to reach this impressive city and visit the tomb of the saint himself. Santiago's old town is also full of dazzling examples of Gothic, Neo-classical, Romanesque and Baroque design and nearly all are on a grand or monumental scale.

Seville Seville is the artistic, cultural, and financial capital of southern Spain, and capital of Andalusia. The Cathedral of Seville is now arguably the largest church in the world when compared using the measurement of volume, and is also the final resting place of the remains of . La is a large and beautiful minaret tower, originally intended for the chief mosque, but now is the magnificent bell tower of the Cathedral and prominent symbol of Seville. The Real Alcázar is a beautiful palace, built in Mudéjar (Moorish) style in the 14th century. With its myriad of rooms, extravagant architecture, lavish gardens with many courtyards, ponds and secrets to be explored, it is a fascinating place to visit.

In case of a Pandemic / Coronavirus situation if the train is not able to operate, guests can transfer the funds to any other tour being offered by Palace Tours or change of date subject to availability without any cost to the guest. In case the guest requests a refund, full refund will be provided minus the 15% administrative fee on full tour costs as outlined in the general terms and conditions. The above times are based on local time of the destination where the tour is provided. In order to provide enough time for processing cancellation, guests need to add 3 business days to the above timeframes. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover the losses incurred in case of cancellation.
