Ala Traduções Metropolitan Public Transit in the State of São Paulo during the 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™ Public transit is the best option for fans planning to attend the opening ceremony and any of the six matches of the 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™ at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, in particular the metro and train systems, given that the primary access roads to the venue will be closed to vehicle traffic. The São Paulo State metro-rail system is made up of the São Paulo Metropolitan Rail Company (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos – CPTM), the São Paulo Metropolitan Company (Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo – Metro), and ViaQuatro (which manages the metro’s Line 4). Combined, the three operators oversee a system stretching more than 336 kilometers and serving 22 municipalities (http://www.metro.sp.gov.br/pdf/mapa-da-rede- metro.pdf). For a single fare of R$ 3.00, passengers have access to the CPTM’s 260.8 km rail system and 92 stations and the Metro’s 75.5 km rail system and 65 stations. Every day more than 7.4 million commuters use the public rail transport system. The city’s metropolitan bus system is operated by the Metropolitan Urban Transit Company (Empresa Metropolitana de Transportes Urbanos – EMTU/SP) and serves 107 cities at fares that vary according to commute distances. For the 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™, the Metro and the CPTM will operate parallel lines to meet passenger demand to Arena Corinthians: the Metro’s Line 3-Red and the CPTM’S Line 11-Coral. Fans with tickets to the venue’s EAST gate should take the CPTM Expresso da Copa, departing platform 4 at the Luz Station (Line 11) toward the Corinthians-Itaquera station, located 900 meters from the stadium. The Expresso da Copa will provide passengers with non-stop service between the two stations in an estimated of 19 minutes. Following matches, the Expresso da Copa will offer return trip services running approximately 23 minutes, with stops at the Tatuapé and Brás stations. The final destination of the Expresso da Copa’s return leg will be platform 3 at the Luz Station. Fans with tickets to the venue’s WEST gate should take the Metro’s Line 3 and get off at the Arthur Alvim Station, located 900 meters from the stadium. Travel times will vary given the 65 stations distributed throughout the system. By way of example, however, the ride will take an estimated 30 minutes from the Sé Station and about 41 minutes from the Barra Funda Station. For the event’s opening game on June 12 and the other matches played in São Paulo, the EMTU/SP will operate an express Airport Bus Service from the Guarulhos International Airport to Arena Corinthians, running every 30 minutes beginning 7 hours prior to match time 4 hours after the final whistle. Express buses will be air-conditioned and have reclining upholstered seats. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes and cost R$ 36.50, plus a R$ 1.50 boarding fee. A suburban bus line will provide transportation between the Guarulhos International Airport and the Metro’s Tatuapé Station. The travel time will run an estimated 55 minutes at a cost of R$ 4.45. Press Relations News media activities of any nature in São Paulo Metro facilities – access points, stations, platforms, trains – or, further, along lines operated by the EMTU/SP – requires submission of a prior request for authorization by the Company Media Relations Office (see procedures below); News media work encompasses filming, photography, video or audio recordings, broadcasts, and interviews (whether with Company employees, system riders, or third parties); News reporting will not be authorized on boarding/alighting platforms or on trains or buses during morning and evening rush hours on business days (6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). The objective of this requirement is to prevent disruptions and unforeseen circumstances capable of putting the safety of users and the work of news media professionals at risk. Privatizing Urban Planning and the Struggle for Inclusive Urban Development: New Redevelopment Forms and Participatory Planning in São Paulo by Joshua Daniel Shake A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Urban and Regional Planning) in The University of Michigan 2016 Doctoral Committee: Professor Martin J. Murray, Chair Associate Professor David S. Bieri, Virginia Tech University Assistant Professor Harley F. Etienne Clinical Professor Melvyn Levitsky Associate Professor Eduardo Cesar Leão Marques, University of São Paulo © Joshua Daniel Shake 2016 DEDICATION To my mother, who gave me my love for books, inspired my passion for travel, and always encouraged me to ask questions about the world around me. She may no longer be here with me, but I know I would not be where I am today without her guidance and love and that she continues to provide both. ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Over the past four years, I have discovered that completing a Ph.D. is an odd mixture of personal dedication, determination, and desire, along with making sure you have the right people around you to provide guidance, help, and support along the way. While in the limited space here I cannot give due credit to all of those that contributed in some form to this endeavor, I do want to call attention to a few very important individuals without whom I would not have completed this undertaking. My first and largest thank you goes to my committee members: Martin Murray, Eduardo Marques, Harley Etienne, David Bieri, and Melvyn Levitsky. Their feedback and advice on research, academic, and non-academic issues will always be valued.

  • Nomenclatura Das Estações Da CPTM – Metodologia Para Escolha De Nome, Custos E As Consequências De Sua Alteração

Innovation is ViaQuatro’s trademark for São Paulo’s urban mobility Subway Line 4 (Yellow) offers unprecedented technologies to its passengers Responsible for the operation and maintenance of Line 4 (Yellow) of the São Paulo subway, ViaQuatro invests in innovations exclusively designed to transport passengers in a safe, fast and comfortable way. Its technological edge ranges from platform doors to the driverless system, timers that show when the train will arrive at the station and a display that shows the number of people in each car. Line 4 (Yellow) trains are equipped with the most modern subway technology, which combines radio CBTC (Communications-based train control) and driverless operation (no conductors). This system prevents human errors and controls both train speed and intervals, as necessary. It also controls the number of trips, door opening times and the number of trains in the line based on passenger demand. Line 4 (Yellow) trains have air conditioning, free passage between the cars, mobile phone signal, low noise level, energy efficient lighting and direct communication with the Operation Control Center (CCO). CCTV cameras follow movements in real time throughout the line, inside the trains, in the stations and in the parking and maintenance yards. The fleet, composed of 29 trains, carries 750,000 passengers per business day, in 951 trips. The stations are also modern and comfortable. Line 4 (Yellow) was the first line in Latin America to install glass panel doors that separate the platform from the rails. The platform doors open at the same time as the train doors and trains stop exactly where users get on and off, helping reduce the number of accidents and interruptions in the subway.
