ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE Established 1966

9150 Highland Road Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810

(On the Corner of Highland Road and Gardere Lane)

The Deacon’s Beacon Quite often I am approached by others with questions regarding the diaconate. The most commonly asked question is “What does or can a deacon do?” While that is a very legitimate question, I think it is all the more important to look first to find out “who they are?” After all, when we meet a new friend we are sure to want to know what they do for a living but let’s be honest, it’s not what they do that impresses or draws us into the relationship…it’s who they are!!!

In all honesty, it is very difficult in speaking of deacons (or anybody for that matter) to answer who they are without at least acknowledging or sharing what they do.

“Deacons share in 's mission and grace in a special way. The sacrament of Holy Orders marks them with an imprint ("character") which cannot be removed and which configures them to Christ, who made himself the "deacon" or servant of all. Among other tasks, it is the task of deacons to assist the and priests in the celebration of the divine mysteries, above all the Eucharist, in the distribution of Holy Communion, in assisting at and blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the and preaching, in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries of charity.” (CCC, 1570)

As baptized Christians, we are all called to be a of Christ in the world. The deacon, through ordination, has a permanent and public responsibility for a ministry of Word, Sacrament and Charity and is called to share in the apostolic ministry of the Church and becomes an of Christ the Servant; when a person sees the deacon, it is hoped that the person will see and experience Christ in the world.

With that being said…

May those who come to know and see us, come to know and see !

Deacon James

The run is strictly for students and takes place on October 30th at the close of our Fun Run Fundraising Campaign.

The students enjoy a fun day where classes take turns running through our decorated Fun Run track on campus with a DJ and refreshments. This is our 5th annual Fun Run and the proceeds go towards improvements at school - namely renovation of the bathrooms that have been lovingly preserved for 30 years. St. Jude Home & School is the name of our parent volunteer organization which plans this event and many others around campus.

We have several corporate sponsors whose donated funds cover the cost of the event so all funds collected during the campaign go straight back to the school’s improvement projects.

If you would like to contribute to our fundraising campaign, you may donate by visiting our website: https://charityauction.bid/SJSFunRun

Your support reminds us of God’s faithfulness, even during challenging times. We sincerely appreciate your contribution which allows St.Jude Home and School Association to continue to provide the best resources to our students.
