Ministry of Social Concern RESPECT LIFE CALIFORNIA’S CONCERN FOR INNOCENT HUMANS EXCLUDES THE UNBORN Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent announcement that there will be a moratorium on executions was certainly good news for the 737 people currently on Death Row in the state. It was also good news for the U.S., the only nation that still sanctions execution. “I cannot sign off on executing hundreds and hundreds of human beings, the Governor said, knowing that among them will be innocent human beings.” So while I applaud his decision to save the lives of those guilty of terrible crimes, I wonder why he does not extend that same protection to the most innocent among us M the children in the womb. According to the proabortion, Guttmacher Institute, 157,350 unborn children were aborted in California in 2014, representing 17% of all abortions in the U.S. California, which legalized abortion four years before the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade Decision, does not have a mandatory waiting period before abortion. Underage girls don’t need the consent of a parent, nor do they even have to notify them. Since 2013, nonphysicians, including nurse practitioners, certified nursemidwives and physicians’ assistants, have been able to legally perform abortions. Taxpayers in the state foot the bill for many of these abortions. Special 2nd Collection July 27th /28th, 2019 We are Blessed to be living close to the wonderful beaches of Delaware or you are blessed to be able to visit our area and to take the time to enjoy our recreational settings with little or no planning, Just pack the car and go…. for a day of family fun by the Ocean. Well, that is not true for all of our neighbors, there are those families living in Sussex County, Delaware who are living day to day, worrying more about how they will be able to pay their bills or feed their families, on a daily basis. Not much time to consider enjoying the beaches, although they are close and available. Living in poverty or being underprivileged does not provide the environment to consider “time at the Beach “ so, many of the children in our area do not get the opportunity to play in the sand or enjoy the ocean. Once a year, Children from our parish assist with a 2nd Collection which we call “The Bucket Brigade,” this col- lection is provided to our Vincent De Paul Society where these donations will be used to provide help to those families in need to meet their daily living requirements. We ask that you consider a generous donation during these special 2nd collections on July 27/28th. With the monies donated, we can provide the help through SVDP to these needy families, It is our desire to re- lieve some of financial and food worries and concerns which are the obstacles for some of our children not get- ting the opportunity to enjoy our Godgiven beaches and summer entertainment. Catholic Charities taking application for energy assistance The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered in Delaware by Catholic Charities, is now taking applications for the 20192020 heating season. This federallyfunded program assists lowincome Delawareans who need help in meeting home energy costs. LIHEAP makes payments directly to home energy suppliers. The LIHEAP benefit is based on a household’s income, size, and type of fuel. You may be eligible for assistance if your total household income falls within income eligibility guidelines. For example, a household of 4 can have no more than $50,325 in annual household income (before taxes). In order to qualify, you must make an appointment with a Catholic Charities office for a personal interview. Regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In Kent County, call (302) 6741782.
