I talk with my spiritual director and confessor on a regular basis—about prayer. Offertory In the end I went, and as always happens, of course there Support Last Week Year to Date was something new that God wanted me to hear and learn. The teacher for the evening had many insights, but the most Budget 15,660.38 156,603.80 profound for me was “Praying intercessory prayer is cooperating and partnering with God’s will.” I have always tried to pray in a spirit of cooperating with God’s will. Actual 16,740.93 142,907.58 “Thy will be done.” I pray with an attitude of “There you go God, you’ve got my OK on this, now go and do your Over/(Short) 1,080.55 (13,696.22) God thing.”

However, the thought of partnering with God in prayer was a new thought for me. It moves prayer from a passive form to an active one. I am not only supporting others with my prayer, I am entering into God’s will that all people being prayed for may respond to the gift of God’s grace. KNIGHTS CORNER

The evening of Parish Intercessory Prayer also holds power in number. When one considers all of the tragedy and difficulties that abound in our world it is easy to become discouraged in prayer. But when you hear the voices of Barb and Ken, Mary, Pat, Anne, Bob, Dave and everyone else joining with you in praying for those very same concerns, a holy energy descends upon the entire place. To use one of Fr. Jerry’s well-used quotes, “People are praying with you and for you.”

Our next Intercessory Prayer Night is Thursday, Sept. 13, beginning at 7 PM in our St. Peter church site. This is NOT the same prayer experience as our monthly Parish Holy Hour. At the Holy Hour the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and a structured set of prayers accompany the Holy Hour. If you attend the Intercessory Prayer evening you can expect to spend about an hour at church. The evening begins with some teaching. In small groups people compile a list of the needs they feel God is calling us to pray about. Then we go into a time of prayer. This might be in the framework of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Rosary, a Litany or another prayer form. By 8 PM we are close to being on our way.

In 22:30 God speaks to us saying, “I looked for someone… who could stand in the places where the walls have crumbled and defend the land when my anger is about to destroy it…” Being a part of our Parish Intercessory Prayer group gives you an opportunity to stand in the gap Jay Schaefer – Grand Knight, Council 614 where the union of humanity and God’s plan have broken [email protected] – (920) 410-1284 down. Are you willing to stand in the gap?
