From Our Pastor’s Desk Mass times &= Change causes stress. Even if you’re happy about a new spouse, child, or home, or if you lose a , face a divorce, or suffer loss of a loved one, you are burdened with stress. And it can be Information= severely aggravated if you have to deal with negative, complaining people. In the past year our parish has experienced tremendous change. In addition to losing parish- ioners and friends through death or relocation and welcoming new members, we’ve seen significant staff changes. After years of dedicated service, Diane Roth retired, and we welcomed Carol Turoczy as Ex- ecutive Secretary. Nancy Seaver continues as our extremely capable Director of Communications & Facilities Scheduler and become our Office Director. Judy Gibson continues as a faithfilled and hardworking office assistant. Recently, she was joined by Bernadette Baker, who, in addition to helping our office staff, has resumed her previous role as my Administrative Assistant. And Jean Stewart, an incredible bundle of energy, is our capable Director of Development. Mike Pfarr was our Business Manager when I arrived; I wasn’t as talented in material matters as my predecessor, but Mike rose to the occasion. He worked, for example, on the new sign & the solar panels. After retiring from fulltime work, Mike has become our parttime facilities manager and has worked on projects like parish security. His successor, Bob Hearn, previously worked at Del Tech and served for several years on our Finance Council. So he had a rather small learning curve and an easy adjustment to his new position. Jennifer Barbarita recently introduced herself as our music director. I’m happy we share an Alma Mater The U of D. Jen’s teaching in school & private lessons and her love of choirs will help us build a stronger music program. July 14/15, I had a rare opportunity to hear 3 of our deacons preach on one weekend. What a blessing! Deacon Bill heads our search committee for a new DRE; we have very capable candidates Closed Noon to 1 PM for who have applied and hope to have one in place soon. (In addition to his liturgical ministry, Deacon Lunch Bill serves on Pastoral Council. I am blessed with his wise counsel.) In the meantime, Lynn Marie keeps things afloat and is planning for the coming school year. I don’t know how she finds the time to sing for weekend Masses and special occasions as often as she does, but she is extraordinary! Deacon Al Barros has just been assigned to ministry at St. Jude. He is excited to join us and met the staff at our monthly meeting. Deacon Howard began ministry back in March, and he enrich- es us with a depth of experience. Deacon Don came out of one of the briefest retirements on record (!), and we are grateful to have him back. Deacon Marty is still a “new kid on the block,” and we appreciate his experience and eagerness to serve. Moving In? Moving Out? Jones, who arrived with me here at St. Jude in June, 2015, is not only kind & friendly, wise & devout, but his generous help during my medical leave was invaluable for the sake of the parish. Never once did I worry about how you would do without me. Visit us also We benefit from the team of Chuck & Sheila Allen. He’s our talented handyman, and she’s on manager of our Parish Life Center. Since last year, she has increased rental of our beautiful hall. Even though most notes in the suggestion box in church are anonymous and a few Android less than charitable, it is vital that you trust that I hear your concerns and are confident that I will respond to them. I use the Pastoral Council Executive Committee to review them each month. Our staff is a real family. We love the Church & parish and welcome the opportunity to serve you. We cherish and affirm one another’s talents & our friendship. Like the diverse parts of an en- gine, we work together: when one is weak, another is strong, when one is perplexed, another has an answer to the problem. We laugh together, we cry together, we pray together. As a team, we lift up one another and together proclaim the Gospel, build the Kingdom, and serve the People of God. Please pray for us, as we do for you! Page 3 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 29, 2018
