He also says that Jesus must increase, while he himself must decrease (John Jean Stewart 6442890 3:30). Equally, it is decidedly most appropriate for the Church to celebrate Jesus’ Nativity after the Winter Solstice, as the day begins to lengthen and the light of the Music Director: Jennifer Barbarita sun begins to grow stronger, for He is the Light Who shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome Him (John 1:5). Joyful News! Malooly, has li ed the dispensaon, thereby reinstang the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligaon for Catholics in the Diocese of Wilmington, effecve June 26, 2021. The dispensaon that went into effect on March 13, 2020, was put in place to help limit the spread of coronavirus, and allow the Diocese of Wil- mington to conform to guidelines and regulaons adopted by the States of Delaware and Maryland. Our bishop decided to li the dispensaon because the average number of new cases of COVIDR19 conn- ues to decline due to the observance of safety protocols and the increased availability of the vaccine. The obligaon does not apply to those who are ill, have been exposed to the virus, or have any serious underly- ing health condions. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full inRperson parcipaon of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. Let us connue to be united in prayer for one another and for an end to the global pandemic. More informaon is available at www.cdow.org/coronavirus.

Unless otherwise communicated, that Mass will connue to be our 4 p.m. Saturday liturgy which can be accessed at our YouTube Channel in realRme, or recording (a erRtheRfact). Page 4

Efforts to raise necessary resources in support of the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal continue in our Diocese. St. Jude The Apostle is truly blessed with many generous people, who, despite many economic challenges, have supported this year’s campaign with their pledges and gifts. To date, $97,355 has been received representing 93.05% of our parish’s $146,000 goal. If you have given to this year’s campaign, please know that your participation is gratefully ap- preciated. If you have not yet done so, please consider supporting this important effort with a pledge or onetime contribu- tion. It is never too late to participate. The diocesan Annual Catholic Appeal provides financial support that enables more than thirtyfive ministries throughout our diocese to bring a glimpse of God into the lives of many. The Appeal is an effective way for the diocese to advance the mission of Christ: to feed and house the poor; to minister to the sick and discouraged; to educate our young; and en- courage strong, healthy families. If you would like more information about the Annual Catholic Appeal or wish to make your contribution online, go to www.cdow.org/annualcatholicappeal. May God bless you for your goodness!

St. Vincent de Paul Society

June 27 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering. This week, please join with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in praying for the healing of all those who are ill and especially those who have no one to pray for them. Page 9

Our SVDP society is sll up and operang during this me. A strong plasc box has been placed between the Church and the Parish Life Center by the white fence for the courtyard. You may place any donaons of nonper- ishable food items in the box. Please do not place any food or boxes outside of the box. Our SVDP members will be checking the box and emptying it regularly. If you wish to make a monetary donaon during this me, please mail a check to St. Vincent DePaul Society PO Box 94 Lewes, DE 19958.

Do You Hear the cry of the poor? As a Vincentian, I do hear the cries almost every day and as a Vincentian, I thank you for the food and money donations received mostly from the parishioners. We can live Jesus’ request to respond to this cry for help for our neighbors in need and disadvantaged and not only provide help but also provide hope. Our ministry provides us with an opportunity to grow in our faith and follow Jesus’ request that we love our neighbor as ourselves. Would you like to consider joining us in God's work? Please give me a call or send an email (3026841892, email: [email protected]) I will be happy to speak to you about SVDP and see if it is a ministry that you might be interested in joining. There is no pressure of commitment requirements. Call to explore. Frank Walder, President SVDP

Ministry of Social Concern

ACTIVE ADVOCATES As one of the goals of the Ministry of Social Concerns at St. Jude’s is to bring Catholic Social teaching to parishioners, our Ministry is aempng to revitalize an Advocacy group to keep parishioners informed of such relevant local, state and global issues. Many such issues are reported on in our Diocesan “Dialog” distributed a er Sunday Mass (on line site: thedialog.org) and various other newspapers. Somemes the arcles are simply informaon; other mes, a “call to acon” is solicited (for example, to write your State Representave in Congress. Either way, it is good to be an informed, intelligent Catholic and an “Acve Advocate” for issues affecng your faith. Our ministry plans to highlight or give an excerpt of such arcles in our Church Bullen to lead further emphasis to these social issues for those of us who might skim the news and miss such topics. This month’s arcle in the May 21 Dialog states: “The U.S. Supreme Court said in a May 17 order that it will hear oral arguments during its next term on a 2018 Mississippi aboron law banning most aborons a er 15 weeks of pregnancy. The Case is Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organizaon. The Court’s term opens in October and a decision is expected by June 2022. The case has been on the Supreme Court’s docket as a potenal case since last Fall. It will examine the queson of viability, specifically if a fetus can survive on its own at 15 weeks. ProRlife advocates were pleased with the Court’s decision to take this case.” We hope you will watch for future “Acve Advocates” highlights under MOS (Ministry of Social Concerns).

St. Joseph Statue Joseph as shadow of the Father In the Gospel of John, the Evange- list removes all doubt from anyone who might confound John the Bap- tist for the Messiah by writing that “A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light...He was not the light...The true light, which enlight- ens everyone, was coming into the world” (1:67ab, 8a, 9). thereby states plainly that compared to the Light Who is Jesus the Christ, John the Baptist is merely a shadow and as such, points to the Light. What is said of John the Baptist might very well be said of St. Jo- seph, as attested by some Fathers of the Church in the East and the West. To the Patristics, St. Joseph, by his humility and lowliness, was but a shadow of the One to Whom he pointed throughout his life. But it was precisely by being a shadow of the Father that Joseph fulfilled His mission of rearing and protect- ing the Light of the world. "It is immoral to produce human embryos intended for exploitation as disposable biological material." "Certain attempts to influence chromosomic or genetic inheritance are not therapeutic but are aimed at producing human beings se- lected according to sex or other predetermined qualities. Such manipulations are contrary to the personal dignity of the human being and his integrity and identity, which are unique and unrepeatable.” This is the completion of the Abortion paragraphs in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Abortion is a very sensitive issue and care must be taken when discussing with other people. We must always remember that God is a very merciful God and no sin is beyond forgiveness. Any person with concerns about abortion is invited to set up an appointment with a Catholic Priest. If you would like an email copy of the six paragraphs, email the Church Office at [email protected].

Guatemala

“Our Guatemala Partnership con- nues despite the naonal pan- demic. Our fellow Catholics in Guatemala connue to need our assistance. Supplies are not able to be shipped because of the lack of an importer/exporter. Sister Mary Lou hopes that the means of shipping supplies to them from the United States will be forthcoming. Financial assistance is the best and only way to help. Fortunately, the two good Sisters can deal with the clinics locally because they can maintain the pandem- ic guidelines. Unfortunately, the clinics and visits to the outlying villages have been suspended but the need connues. In addion to the physical medical support, the two good Sisters are involved with train- ing new and ongoing medical staff to assist in their great medicinal needs in the clinics. This, too, has been suspended but plans to reinvigorate these medi- cal sessions are planned in near future. One photo is of Marie who recently received her first wheelchair from the good Sisters as she has much difficulty in her mobility. Another features health medical promoters with Sister Mary Lou on the le and Sister Jane on the right. Covid prevenon is the theme being promoted on the calendars. Your financial support is important. Please submit a check payable to the parish with GUATEMALA PART- NERSHIP on the blank line on the face of your check. They do greatly appreciate it.
