NATO SECRETARY GENERAL TO VISIT THE BALTIC REPUBLICS
The Secretary General of NATO, Mr Manfred Wörner, will pay the first official visit to the Baltic States from 13 to 16 March at the invitation of the govern ments of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
Coming from Warsaw where he will open a seminar on "Security in Central Europe", Mr Wörner, accompanied by Mrs Elfie Wörner, will arrive in Riga on 13 March, where he will meet with among others, the Prime Minister, Mr Ivars Godmanis, the Chairman of the Supreme Council, Mr Anatolijs Gorbunovs and the State Minister, Mr Dinevlcs. A news conference will be given jointly by the Secretary General and the Defence Minister, Mr Jundzis at 17:00 on the same day.
On 14 March, the Secretary General will arrive at Tallinn and will meet with the Prime Minister, Mr Tilt Vahi, with the Chairman of the Supreme Council, Mr Arnold Rülitel and with the Foreign Minister, Mr Lennart Meri. He will also meet members of the parliamentary Defence and Foreign Affairs Committees. A joint news conference with the Foreign Minister is intended to take place at 16:45 on 14 March.
Arriving in Vilnius in the afternoon of 15 March, the Secretary General will meet the next day with the President of the Supreme Council, Mr Vytautas Landsbergis, the Prime Minister, Mr Vagnorius, the Foreign Minister, Mr Algirdas Saudargas and the Defence Minister, Mr Butkevicius. The Secretary General will also meet representatives of the Parliament. A news conference 1s planned for 17:00 on 16 March.
