Lancing College WHAT’S ON

MUSIC • DRAMA • DANCE LENT TERM 2020 W lancingcollege.co.uk/events Welcome ... to the WHAT’S ON calendar, combining all the performing arts events at Lancing College.

Welcome to the programme of performing arts events at Lancing for the Lent Term 2020.

Musically speaking, in January we welcome the renowned choral conductor Ralph Allwood for a workshop with the . In February, the Choir sings in the Tudor splendour of the at . Also in February we look forward to the hotly contested House Music Competition, from which the stand-out performances will be showcased in the Finals Concert. The College Singers return in March for a performance of Rossini’s ever-popular Petite Messe Solennelle. In 2020 we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven and we look forward to hearing the Kokoschka Trio perform Beethoven’s Archduke Trio in March. We will round off the term in style with the Lent Concert, featuring all of Lancing’s major musical ensembles, as well as the Chamber Music Concert.

We are thrilled to be presenting a diverse and exciting programme of drama involving a wide range of genres and giving stimulating opportunities to a large cohort of students. The Lancing Repertory programme has spread itself across two terms and we have the final offerings this term:Kindertransport , Alice and The Maids. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to step into a leadership role, to produce their own piece of the theatre and past experience shows that our student directors set themselves very high standards. The Donald Bancroft One-Act Play Competition this year sees two very different plays – the brief to writers this year was that their submissions should be funny, so it was a joy to adjudicate the work, chuckling all the way! We are also lucky to have members of the Common Room – Phil Richardson and Nick Baldock – directing for us this term. Both are experienced practitioners and students and audiences alike will benefit from their expertise. Look for details online about forthcoming productions of two Steven Berkoff plays: East and Sink the Belgrano.

We look forward to seeing you at the College soon!
