John Rutter invites you to sing a mixture of choral music old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, with some of his own works included and a few surprises! Enthusiastic singers of all levels are welcome to this hugely enjoyable day, organised by Stroud Choral Society. Held at the historic Stroud Subscription Rooms, in the centre of Stroud, this workshop will be easily accessible with nearby parking and within walking distance of Stroud train station. John's compositional career has embraced both large and small-scale choral works, orchestral and instrumental pieces, a piano concerto, two children’s operas, music for television, and specialist writing for such groups as the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and the King’s Singers. His larger choral works, Gloria (1974), Requiem (1985), (1990), Psalmfest (1993) and Mass of the Children (2003) have been performed many times in Britain, North America, and a growing number of other countries. He co-edited four volumes in the Carols for series with Sir , and, more recently, has edited the first two volumes in the new Oxford Choral Classics series, Opera Choruses (1995) and European Sacred Music (1996). He has guest-conducted or lectured at many concert halls, universities, churches, music festivals, and conferences in Europe, Africa, North and Central America and Australasia. The accompanist for the day is Huw Williams, Musical Director of Stroud Choral and Director of Music at Her Majesty’s , St James’s Palace where he directs the professional of men and boys. There are several eating places available within walking distance of the Subscription Rooms as well as the famous Stroud Farmer’s Market nearby. * Tea and coffee will be provided on arrival, and during the afternoon break. Price: £20 per singer, including tea and coffee. (Please note all tickets are subject to a £2.50 booking fee per transaction, including £1 postage). Music will be provided.
