Cowboy Heritage Kreger Ranch is a fourth generation, family ranching operation. Glen S. Kreger, MD, “Doc” Kreger, my Dad, and I started running commercial cows in the 1940s, right after he returned from serving as field surgeon in World War II. In the 1950s, we started breeding Hereford cattle together, but continued the next three decades largely in the commercial cow-calf business. In the mid-1970s, we started using Herring, Brown and Harrell Beefmaster bulls on our commercial cows and loved the results. In 1977, we bought a herd of 30 elite Beefmaster heifers from John and Jennie Lee Zipperer, and joined BBU—membership #236. Of course, Joe Bayne was involved from the beginning, and he became a charter member of JBBA in 1984. Now his kids, Caroline and Landon, are representing the fourth generation of our family ranch in north central Oklahoma.
