ROSH HODESH IYAR
The first Rosh Hodesh Iyar after the Exodus of Egypt was on Shabat. It was on that day that the Jews requested water and found only bitter waters in a place called Mara.
Hashem ordered Moshe to throw into the water a piece of bitter tree and the miracle occurred and the wa- ters became sweet from which the entire nation drank. On that same day Hashem gave Moshe part of the Mitzvot of the Torah. Specifically the laws of Shabat, the laws of Para Aduma and the laws of ownership and litigation.
On the second Rosh Hodesh Iyar after leaving Mitzrayim, the first census of the Jews was taken. All males of the age of 20 and up were counted according to their respective tribes. Including in this census the tribe of Levy was also counted from the age of one month old and up. This tribe was to replace the Becharot – the first born – in their sanctity and in their services in the Tabernacle. Another prominent historical event took place on Rosh Hodesh Iyar as well: -Shelomo Hamelech began the construction of the first Bet Hamikdash.

Rabbi Azoulay: This week in our Understanding Tefila Shiur we started Rabbi Kadoch: this" is discussed by many commentators as to"זאת learning about Tefilat Arvit. - The 3 daily Tefilot were founded by our The word Avot. Avraham established Shahrit, Yitzhak established Minha and Yaakov the exact connotation the Torah wishes to express. The Gemara established Arvit. The Hahamim also tell us that the Tefilot were institut- in Masechet Avoda Zara 2b stats that that whenever we see the ונשלמה פרים שפתינו ed as a substitute for the Korbanot as it says in the Pasuk וזאת התורה. in Scripture it refers to the Torah as we sayזאת that we will use our mouths as a substitute for the oxen (Korbanot)". The word" 2 daily Korbanot (Korban Tamid), were offered in the morning and after- The message here being that in order for Aharon to raise him- noon (Shahrit and Minha). In the evening there wasn't a Korban offered self to higher levels of Kedusha, it must be done with the Torah but the leftover limbs would burn throughout the night on the Mizbeach; and Mitzvot by his side. can symbolize another aspect of Judaism. Arvit is recited at night, a time of darkness. Yaakov had the "darkest" life, the most Yisurim an trials and tribulations out of our Avot, But right after the night is the morning to show that the light, and end to the darkness, is right around the corner. May we soon experience the greatest light, and an end to our darkness soon, with the coming of the Mashiach speedily in our days. Amen. Shabbat Shalom
