The Constitution of the Chapter of Tau

Article 1. Name 1.1 Name and Incorporation. The name of the organization shall be the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau. It shall also be known as the International Honorary for Professions in Technology.

1.2 Derivation of Name. The name, Epsilon Pi Tau, is derived from the initial letters of the Greek names of the three precepts on which the Honorary was founded. These are Skill or TEXNIKH, Social and Professional Proficiency or PRAGMATEIA, and Research or EXETASIS.

Article 2. Nature and Purposes 2.1 Nature. The Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, an international honorary, operates in the fields which comprise the technology professions.

2.2 Purposes. The purpose of the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau is to (a) advance understanding, appreciation, and awareness of technology as both an enduring and influential human endeavor and an integral element of culture, (b) participate in the expansion of education in technical areas, and (c) aid others in their quest for technical knowledge.

Article 3. Membership 3.1 Composition. Membership is open to individuals receiving professional preparation training in technology and/or who are practitioners in education and industry having strong ties to Ohio University relative to technology. The membership shall consist of all persons who have been duly initiated into the Honorary and who are in good standing.

3.2 Member Categories and Selection Procedures. Categories of membership and eligibility standards that will apply to categories and procedures for nominating and appointing members shall be established. Procedures for nominating and appointing individuals for each of these shall be established in the by-laws and in parallel with national standards.

Article 4. Dues, Fees, and Assets of the Honorary 4.1 International Dues and Initiation Fees. Arrangements for paying annual international dues and initiation fees, as directed by binding documents as found in section 5.1, shall be made by officers.

4.2 Chapter Dues and Initiation fees. Arrangement of collecting annual chapter dues and initiation fees, as directed by the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau By-Laws, shall be made by officers.

4.3 Assets. All assets controlled by Epsilon Pi Tau, Lambda Chapter are to be kept in excellent condition at the responsibility of the officers.

Article 5. Governance and Officers. 5.1 Authority. The Code of Epsilon Pi Tau, The Constitution the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, The By-Laws of Epsilon the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, and any corresponding Ohio University documents will from this day forward bind together and regulate Lambda chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau.

5.2 Membership. All members shall be initiated as general members with chapter affiliation. Means, standards, and criteria for general membership and advancement through other member categories as may be determined by officers shall be provided and will be implemented by the chapter.

5.3 Officers. Officers of the chapter shall be at least but not limiting to President and Treasure who shall be elected by a majority ballot of the members in good standings for a term of one year. 5.3.1 Creating offices. Additional offices, as deemed necessary for maintaining the prestige and successful operation of the Honorary shall be created. Officers shall formulate policies and procedures related to their functions and responsibilities relative to the new office in compliance with the by-laws of the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau.

5.3.2 Meetings. The officers shall determine policies governing frequency of and means to call meetings provided there shall be at least two meetings a year determined at least two weeks in advance.

5.3.3 Vacancies. Vacancies of office shall be filled by special election conducted by the officers for the unexpired term of office.

5.3.4 Officers Dissensions. The officers’ dissensions and responsibilities shall be open to the opinions and constructive criticism of all members in good standing. These thoughts should truly be considered equally among all members with or without title of office.

Article 6. Funding of Operations 6.1 Funds. The officers shall establish ways and means to raise the funds in accordance with Ohio University rules for the proper and effective operation of the Honorary. Provisions shall be made to ensure that sufficient funds will be available to cover all planned and implemented expenditures.

Article 7. Parliamentary Authority 7.1 Rules of Governance. The rules contained in Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern this Honorary and all its component parts in cases to which they are applicable, at the

request of any member in good standing, and in which they are not inconsistent with The Constitution of the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau.

Article 8. Adoption and Amendments 8.1 Adoption. The Constitution of the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau shall be ratified by a two thirds vote of the members in good standings and upon adoption, shall supercede all previous constitutions, bylaws, regulations, and Codes of Regulations.

8.2 Amendment. Any member in good standing may propose amendments to The Constitution of the Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau by following procedures established by the officers.

Article 9: Roles of Advisor/Trustee/Assistant Trustee

9.1 Trustee. The Trustee, assisted by one or more Co-Trustees, shall administer and supervise the activities of the chapter by: -assuming responsibility to the Board of Directors for the conduct and quality of the chapter and its activities. -preparing a list of candidates for membership to be reviewed by the membership committee.

-assuming responsibility for the fiscal affairs of the chapter, countersigning all chapter supervising all chapter receipts and disbursements. For campus chapters in institutions where chapter funds are required to be maintained by student services or a similar administrative unit, the Trustee, through a chapter treasurer shall approve and/or supervise funds collected for or disbursed from chapter funds that involve payment at the local level or funds due the International Office of Epsilon Pi Tau. -assuming responsibility for control of rituals, paraphernalia, and records of the chapter. -briefing new chapter officers of their duties and responsibilities according to The Code.

-signing all annual reports, all membership certificates, all "Who's Who in Epsilon Pi Tau " forms, "Honors Nomination Form," and Citation Certificates that originate at the chapter level and transmitting these forms to the Regional Director for processing. -signing or co-signing the Remittance Forms and all official chapter correspondence with the International Office or delegating this responsibility to a Co-Trustee. -serving on behalf of the Honorary, certifies the accuracy of the financial statements involving both the Honorary and chapter finances,

performing this task at least once each year for the Annual Chapter Report and whenever the treasurer or Trustee leaves office.

-submitting the Annual Chapter Report to the Regional Director (two copies) no later than February 1 of each year. -reviewing, correcting, and returning chapter roster printouts promptly to the International Office.

-recommending the appointment of one or more Co-Trustee(s) and assigning duties and responsibilities. -submitting two copies of the Chapter Directory Report form to the Regional Director no later than October 15 of each year. -casting the chapter ballot in matters relating to the revision of The Code including changes in fees assessed for International dues and initiation fee for members.

-proposing amendments to The Code as prescribed in Part 1 - The Constitution Article 8.2 and in Part II - The By-Laws, Section 13.

-casting one vote for the chapter in the election of the Regional Director of the region in which the chapter is located. -serving a major role in the initiation ceremony. -nominating chapter members for laureate and distinguished membership and nonmembers for Certificate of Commendation and International Honors Citation.

9.2 Co-Trustee. The Co-Trustee(s) shall be responsible to the Trustee for the conduct, supervision, evaluation, and promotion of chapter business and professional activities and shall assist the Trustee in identifying candidates for general membership. When authorized by the Trustee, the Co-Trustee shall sign Remittance Forms and official correspondence with the International Office. A Co-Trustee may nominate chapter members for laureate and distinguished membership and nonmembers for the Certificate of Commendation and International Honors Citation.
