CONSTITUTION ARTICLE I TAU THETA PI

Section A. NAME Part One. The official name for this organization is Tau Theta Pi. Part Two. This organization will use the name or its acronym, , in all publicity materials and correspondence.

Section B. ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHMENT Part One. The Founding Mothers of  Del Vecchio, Margaret Lee, Debbie Manalastas, Shiredee Mecija, Hannah Nacu, and Athenel Ocampo. Part Two. All other members are affiliated with the founding members and must respect and uphold the principles set forth by the founding members. All members must respect, uphold and follow the constitution of , National. By-laws and amendments drafted for this constitution require prior notification to all members.

Section C. CHAPTER ESTABLISHMENT Part One. The Gamma Chapter was established on January 15, 2008 at the California State University, Fullerton. Part Two. The Founding Mothers of , Gamma Chapter are Luann Algoso, Cheryl Asico, Angela Cortes, Stephanie Cruz, Melissa Rose de Jesus, Charlene Galapir, Melannie Galvez, Joana Jalac, Joanna Lazaro, Beverly Nguyen and Iris Portillo.

ARTICLE II AFFILIATIONS

Section A. CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FULLERTON Part One. The Gamma Chapter is a recognized student organization at CSUF, but is not a part of the University itself. Part Two. In all correspondence and business transactions,  chapter established at CSUF, but not as part of CSUF itself. Part Three.  sponsor. Part Four.  CSUF’s policies and regulations and those of  precedence. Part Five. The Gamma Chapter recognizes and understands that CSUF assumes no legal liability for the actions of the chapter and that CSUF is not providing blanket indemnification insurance coverage for any activities of the organization, unless those activities expressly benefit and further the goals of CSUF, and have been endorsed by the Dean of Students and Greek Life, Student Conduct, and the General Counsel.

ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP

Section A. REQUIREMENTS OF ACTIVE MEMBERS SELECTION OF MEMBERS Part One. Membership in the organization shall be open to all those regularly-enrolled California State University, Fullerton students who are interested in membership. There shall be no other requirements for admission to regular membership. Each regular member has equal rights and privileges.

Section B. REQUIREMENTS OF ACTIVE MEMBERS Part One. All active members must be enrolled at CSUF and carry a minimum of 12 units. Part Two. All active members must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Part Three. All active members are required to pay all applicable membership fees (dues, etc.). Part Four. All active members are expected to participate in at least 50% of all  activities. Part Five. It is mandatory that all active members attend the weekly general meeting. Part Six. All active members must attend all events declared mandatory by a majority vote.

Section C. RIGHTS OF ACTIVE MEMBERS Part One. All active members are guaranteed a vote on any pertinent issue presented at general meetings. Part Two. All active members are permitted and encouraged to participate in discussion at general meetings. Part Three. All active members may attend general meetings and may attend all functions sponsored by . Part Four. If a fee is charged to attend a particular  ee scale for voting active chapter members, inactive members, and others, as appropriate.

Section D. INACTIVE MEMBERSHIP Part One. If an active member fails to meet any one of the requirements outlined in Article III, Section A B, she then will be placed on inactive status. Part Two. Inactive status forfeits all rights and privileges of an active member. Part Three. A member may become inactive by choice. However, it is at the discretion of the Executive Board to evaluate her reactivation. Part Four. After one academic semester, if an inactive member adheres to the requirements stated in Article III, Section A B, she may appear before the Executive Board to petition for reactivation.

Section E. NEOPHYTE STATUS Part One. Associates who have completed the Associate Period will be placed on Neophyte Status. Part Two. All Neophytes must adhere to active requirements stated in Article III, Section A B. Part Three. Following crossover, Neophytes must attend four consecutive general meetings to gain active status. Part Four. If any Neophyte fails to gain active status after the first four consecutive general meetings complete their Neophyte requirements as outlined in Article VI Section C of the By-laws, and does not show a genuine interest in 

Section F. ACTIVE AFFILIATE MEMEBERSHIP Part One. If a member of  A B the sister may be granted active affiliate status if all other requirements in Article III Section A are fulfilled. Part Two. To petition for active affiliate status a member may appear before the Executive Board to petition for active membership. Part Three. When granted active affiliate status, a member has all rights stated in Article III, Section B C.

Section G. ACTIVE ALUMNI ALUMNAE MEMBERSHIP Part One. All active alumni alumnae members must be a graduate from California State University, Fullerton or an accredited university. Part Two. All active alumni alumnae members are required to pay all applicable membership fees Part Three. All active alumni alumnae members are required to attend mandatory sisterhood related events declared mandatory by the Executive Board. Part Four. All active alumni alumnae members must attend scheduled monthly meetings with the Internal Affairs Officer and the Alumni Alumnae Relations Chair. Part Five. All Active Alumni Alumnae may attend and are encouraged to voice their concerns, opinions and advice during the general meetings. Part Six. All Active Alumni Alumnae members with Big Sister privileges will be allowed by the consent

and contract agreement between the Active Alumni Alumnae, Associate Educator, and President. Part Seven. If the active alumni alumnae member fails to meet the requirements of Active Alumni Alumnae Membership, it will be brought to the attention to the Executive Board via the Vice President. The status of the Active Alumni Alumnae will be discussed and may be placed on inactive status and the rights of Active Alumni Alumnae will be forfeited.

Section H. ANTI-DISCRIMATION CLAUSE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION CLAUSE Part One. Membership in this organization shall not be denied to any student at California State University, Fullerton on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation or disability.

ARTICLE IV DEACTIVATION

Section A. GROUNDS Exhibiting behavior deemed unbecoming of  deactivation.

Section B. PROCEDURE The situation is brought to the attention of the Executive Board via the Vice President. The Executive Board then decides with a majority vote if the issue needs to be voted on by the general membership. If a decision is made to bring the issue to the attention of the general membership, the Vice President does so at the general meeting. The circumstance/situation will then be discussed by the general body at a special meeting and all parties involved will have an opportunity to state their case. The decision to remove a member of the sorority may only be decided with a 2/3-majority vote.

ARTICLE V MEETINGS

Section A. GENERAL MEETINGS General meetings will be held weekly during the academic year. The Executive Board will determine dates for meetings scheduled during breaks (e.g. winter, summer).

Section B. SPECIAL MEETINGS Special meetings may be called by any member of the  be communicated to all members in a timely manner.

Section C. QUORUM To conduct business at any meeting, 50% + 1 of the entire voting membership must be present to form a quorum.

Section C. TERMS OF OFFICE Part One. All members of  educational institution and are an active member of the chapter during the of their election. Part Two. The Executive Board will appoint the Executive Cabinet. Part Three. All officers will remain in the positions for the full term of one academic year, unless the following occurs: time of graduation, personal resignation, withdrawal from their university, or impeachment. Part Four. Chain of command follows in accordance with Section A followed by Section B. Part Five. In order to be eligible for Executive Board, a sister must be active for one full calendar year prior to elections.

Section D. GENERAL DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD Part One. The President serves as the chief executive officer and shall preside at all  unless that duty is otherwise delegated. The President shall be the official spokesperson of , representing the views and policies of the organization. The President shall have the authority to call special elections, and name special committees when needed. The President shall oversee all activities of the Executive Board and of special committee chairs. The President shall be the deciding vote in the event of a tie, at Executive Board meetings (e.g. an officer abstains from voting), otherwise she abstains from voting in all other executive decisions. Part Two. The Vice President shall assist the President in all activities. In the absence of the President, the Vice President stands in for the President. The Vice President oversees all activities of the Executive Cabinet. The Vice President shall ensure that all general and executive meetings are run in a timely and efficient manner. The Vice President shall ensure that all decisions made are in accordance with the constitution and its stipulations. The Vice President shall be the representative for the respective council. Part Three. The Associate Educator shall be responsible for instilling the values and passing on the traditions of  the procedures set forth by . Part Four. The Secretary shall be responsible for documenting all administrative matters of  with the exception of financial documents including: taking member attendance at meetings and events, taking down minutes, preparing agendas, sending and receiving all official  calendar of events. Part Five. The Treasurer shall be responsible for all financial matters and budgeting of . The Treasurer shall keep accurate records of all expenses made and revenues earned during her term. A financial report will be presented orally and in writing at each  Part Six. Internal Affairs shall be responsible for the development of sisterhood bonds within the sorority. Internal Affairs shall deal with affairs and issues exclusively within the sorority.

Section E. GENERAL DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE CABINET Part One. The National Board Chapter Representative is required to attend all National Board Meetings. The

National Board Chapter Representative will be the liaison between the Gamma Chapter of  Board of  l adhere all responsibilities listed on the National Board Constitution. Part Two. The Philanthropy Chair oversees, coordinates, and maintains community service events sponsored by . Part Six. The Historian documents all events and activities, and maintains the Official  Historian maintains the official website. Part Seven. The Rush Chair coordinates all rush events with the assistance of the Social Chairs. Part Eight. The Fundraising Chair oversees, coordinates, and maintains fundraising events sponsored by . Part Nine. The Special Events Chair oversees, coordinates and maintains all events not classified as Social, Philanthropy, Rush or Fundraising (i.e. big sis/lil sis events, guardian events, etc.). The Special Events Chair deals with the family development of  develops bonding events for  Part Ten. The Formal Chair oversees, coordinates and maintains all formal presentations of  Part Eleven Ten. The Alumni Alumnae Relations Chair will be responsible for the development of the active, active alumni alumnae and alumni alumnae relationship. The Alumni Alumnae Relations Chair must meet at least once a month with the Active Alumnae who meet Article III Section F and the Internal Affairs Officer to further develop Alumnae participation within the chapter. The Alumni Alumnae Relations Chair will inform the alumnae of the chapter’s activities. Part Twelve Eleven. The Public Relations Chair will be responsible for publicizing all events within our chapter and to the public. The Public Relations chair will be working with the executive cabinet for tasks such as but not limited to guest-booking, thanks-you notes, invites, mass texting, e-mailing for all 

ARTICLE VII VOTING

Section A. REQUIREMENTS Part One. At general meetings, a 2/3 majority vote of the members present is required for all decisions deemed important/pertinent by the Executive Board. Part Two. A standard majority vote is required for all other decisions at general meetings. Part Three. The President may cast a vote only as a means to end a tie at Executive Board Meetings.

Section B. RIGHTS Part One. Active members may vote on all issues. Part Two. Neophytes shall be limited only to voting on the allocation of financial matters. Part Three. Active Alumni Alumnae may vote on all issues directly pertinent to the sisterhood and financial matters directly affecting their dues only if present at the time of the vote.

ARTICLE VIII ELECTIONS

Section A. REQUIREMENTS Part One. A 2/3 majority of the membership must be present to hold elections. Part Two. A candidate must receive at least 50% + 1 in order to be elected into office.

Section B. NOMINATIONS Part One. Nominations will be held a month five six meetings before the last general meeting before finals week. Part Two. Candidates must be nominated by another active and that nomination must be seconded by a different active. Part Three. Candidates may be nominated for more than one position. Part Four. Candidates must accept their nominations by the next general meeting. Part Five. Elections will be held four meetings before the last general meeting.

Section C. ELECTION PROCEDURE Part One. Candidates must prepare and give a speech for their particular office. Part Two. Candidates will be questioned individually before votes are cast. Part Three. The Vice President and the most recent Associate Captain will run elections. Part Four. If the Vice President is a candidate for any Executive Board Position, the Associate Educator will take her place when counting the ballots and running election for that specific position. Part Five. Elections will be held in order of chain of command, one at a time, with the President being elected first and so forth. Part Six. Any candidate that is nominated for a higher position and is not elected is eligible to be elected into the next lower position as long as they have been previously nominated.

ARTICLE IX DISCIPLINARY ACTION CONCERNING OFFICERS

Section A. REVOCATION/WITHDRAWAL OF AN OFFICER Part One. Removal from office may result from the following: deactivation from , lack of enrollment at a higher educational institution, majority vote by  Part Two. An officer may choose to withdraw from any office at any time. Part Three. The officer must submit a notification of resignation to the Executive Board at least two weeks prior to withdrawal from office. Part Four. In the event that the President’s position is vacated, the Vice President shall then take office. Part Five. Upon resignation of an officer, nominations for new officers will commence the following meeting. Part Six. No Executive Board member will be eligible for nomination of the vacant position.

Section B. PROCESS OF REVOCATION/WITHDRAWAL The situation is brought to the attention of the Executive Board via the Vice President. If a decision is made to bring the issue to the attention of the general membership, the Vice President does so at the general meeting. The situation will then be discussed by the general body at a special meeting and all parties involved will have an opportunity to state their case. The decision to remove a member from office may only be decided with a 2/3-majority vote.

Section C. FURTHER ACTION Part One. Further disciplinary action may be taken with the Office of Residential and Greek Life at the discretion of the Review Committee. Part Two. Failure to abide by these actions may result in sending individuals to Student Conduct.

ARTICLE X GREEK ADVISOR

Section A. ADVISOR REQUIREMENTS Part One. As a student organization,  advice and help when necessary. Part Two. Other persons may serve as advisors, when necessary, by the Executive Board or members of .

Section B. GENERAL DUTIES Part One. Officers should meet with the advisor, at the minimum, once per academic semester. Part Two. An advisor may not vote in  organization.

ARTICLE BY-LAWS AND AMENDMENTS

Section A. BY-LAWS Part One. By-laws can be added to this constitution when changes occur in  vote of the membership at a regular meeting of . Part Two. This constitution takes precedence over any and all by-laws. Part Three. Should any by-laws be drafted by other members, they must notify all members of .

Section B. AMENDMENTS Part One. This constitution can be amended by a 2/3-majority vote of the entire membership at a regular meeting of . Part Two. Should any amendments be drafted by other members, they must notify all members of .

BY-LAWS: CHAPTER POLICY & PROCEDURES

ARTICLE I. ATTENDANCE

Section A. GENERAL MEETINGS Part One. General meetings during the academic year will be held at 8P.M. Executive Board meetings will be held before that time as determined by the President. ALL General and Executive Board meetings and any other events determined by a majority of the Executive Board are MANDATORY. a. To ensure member attendance and the efficiency of weekly meetings, an active sister who is tardy to any Executive Board or General meeting will be held responsible to pay the assigned late fee. The fee will be paid by the next meeting, unless otherwise specified by the Treasurer. Late fees are defined as the following: 1) $3- First 5 minutes late 2) $1 per minute afterwards not exceeding $10 7 3) $15 10- No Call No Show 4) The active may type up the minutes for the following in lieu of the late fees if she cannot afford to pay the amount

Section B. MANDATORY EVENTS Part One. For all mandatory events, a sister must be excused by the Vice President and notify the person responsible for that event no less than 48 hours before the event. A sister can only be excused by the Vice President (or Secretary in the Vice President’s absence). Part Two. It is preferred that sisters give notification if they are unable to attend a mandatory event. However, for reasons given below, written notice may be accepted up to a maximum of TWO business days after a mandatory event. a. Work, only if a sister cannot be rescheduled on another day and/or time b. Class c. Serious illness or in the family d. Test, major project, or term paper due the day following the event Part Three. Late Fees e. $2 3- First 5 minutes f. $1- Per min after, not exceeding $10 7 g. $15 10- No Call No Show h. 50% off total if notified after 48 hours

Section E. A sister can be removed from her respective position or put on Inactive status if she misses THREE sister mandatory events without being excused or if she misses more than 50% of all other events during the course of the semester.

ARTICLE II. DRESS CODE

Section A. Sisters will adhere to a dress code if set forth by the person responsible for organizing the event.

Section B. A sister may be asked to change or leave if she is not attired in the dress code set forth.

Section C. No Fee first 2 strikes, $10 on third strike.

ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS

Section A. Full payment of dues must be paid by the first general meeting of every semester. Sisters organizing other events will determine due dates for those fees as they see fit.

Section B. If a sister cannot make the full payment of membership fees then she must notify the Treasurer with a written proposal to be placed on a payment plan. A payment plan must be agreed upon 4 weeks before the first general meeting. No finance charge will be incurred with the payment plan unless the payment schedule as set forth by the Treasurer is not adhered to.

Section C. ALL financial obligations must be paid by the second to the last general meeting of the semester. Otherwise, sisters are subject to their outstanding balance plus an additional 20% fee due at the first general meeting of the semester.

Section D. All financial obligations not met by a sister by the end of the semester will be subject to a fine by the Executive Board and will be carried into the next semester.

Section E. If financial obligation has not been met, the sister will then be put on inactive membership as outlined by the Constitution.

Section F. A sister may request reactivation at the first Executive Board meeting of each semester if she adheres to membership requirements as outlined by Article III, Section A B of the Constitution. Reactivation must be requested both in writing and in person. The Executive Board will decide on her reactivation within one week of the request.

Section G. REIMBURSEMENTS/CREDITS

Part One. Receipts for any ΤΘΠ related expenses must be given to the treasurer within two weeks of the date of purchase. Part Two. Upon change of membership to Alumni Alumnae, Inactive or Deactivation status any moneys owed must be requested in writing within 45 days. a. A claim process will be determined between the treasurer and the individual.

Section H. New Member Account: This account will be used to collect any associate dues. It will cover any operating expenses pertaining to current associates.

ARTICLE IV. ACADEMIC PROBATION

Section A. If a sister is placed on academic probation by the California State University, Fullerton she will be placed on inactive status unless the Executive Board finds a more suitable alternative.

ARTICLE V. INACTIVE MEMBERSHIP

Section A. A sister will be placed on Inactive Membership for the course of one academic semester if she does not adhere to one of the member requirements as outlined by Article III, Section A B of the Constitution. Part One. Enrollment at CSUF with a minimum of workload of 12 units per quarter semester Part Two. Maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 Part Three. Payment of all applicable membership fees Part Four. Participation in at least 50% of all events Part Five. Attendance to all mandatory events and meetings

Section B. She will then forfeit all rights and privileges of an active member, which include but are not limited to: Part One. Big sister privileges Part Two. Eligibility to hold chapter or national officer positions Part Three. Associate privileges Part Four. Voting rights

Section C. A sister put on inactive status must be notified in writing by the Vice President. The notification must contain: Part One. Date inactive status starts and length of inactive status Part Two. Reason(s) the sister is put on inactive status Part Three. Privileges lost by the sister

Section D. Sisters that, for personal reasons, cannot contribute to Tau Theta Pi for the semester must notify the Vice President in writing regarding their inactive status prior to the start of the quarter semester. She will then forfeit her rights and privileges as an active member as long as she remains inactive.

Section E. A sister may request reactivation at the first Executive Board meeting of each semester if she adheres to membership requirements as outlined by Article III, Section A B of the Constitution. Reactivation must be requested both in writing and in person. The Executive Board will decide on her reactivation within one week of the request.

ARTICLE VI. ASSOCIATES

Section A. In order to become an associate, a rushee must meet the following requirements: Part One. Has never been initiated into any other social sorority Part Two. Is enrolled at CSUF with no fewer than 12 units. Part Three. Has at least a 2.0 GPA

Section B. Associates who complete the Associate period will be placed on neophyte status. Neophytes do not have voting rights except when voting on financial matters.

Section C. Neophytes will gain active status after attending four consecutive general meetings.

Section D. A Neophyte who did not maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 during the course of her Associate period will be placed on academic probation for the first semester of her active status. In order to successfully complete academic probation, she must: Part One. Attend all mandatory study hours Part Two. Comply with periodic grade checks held by the Academic Chair Part Three. Achieve and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 Part Four. Executive Board

ARTICLE VII. EXECUTIVE BOARD

Section A. The Executive Board is responsible for adhering to and enforcing this policy at ALL . However, if special circumstances occur in regards to policies herein, the Executive Board has the discretionary power in ALL occurrences.

Section B. Official Tau Theta Pi Bank Account Part One. In the event that the Treasurer is unavailable the President will have access to the account with the approval of the Executive Board.

ARTICLE VIII. ELECTIONS Section A. The new term for elected Executive Board and Executive Cabinet becomes official at the ΤΘΠ Annual Sisterhood Convention.

ARTICLE IX. ELECTION PROCEDURE

Section A. Candidates must prepare and give a speech for their particular office and questioned individually before votes are cast as outlined by Article VIII, Section C of the Constitution.

Section B. The sister who nominated the candidate must prepare and give a speech stating her reasons for nomination prior to the candidate’s speech.

Section C. Eligibility Part One. Active members are eligible for the following positions if they meet Article III Section A B a. President b. Vice President c. Secretary d. Treasurer

Part Two. The following positions are open to Active Members, Active Affiliate and Active Alumni Alumnae. a. Internal Affairs b. Associate Educator c. Executive Cabinet

ARTICLE X. EXTERNAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS

Section A. There shall be a minimum of five (5) CSU Fullerton students who are currently enrolled in at least one class

Tau Theta Pi Gamma Chapter California State University, Fullerton ______with a maximum of 20 percent of the members who are not CSU Fullerton students.

Section B. There shall be three types of membership in the organization: neophyte, active, and active alumni alumnae.

Section C. Voting memberships is limited to regularly enrolled students and active alumni alumnae (neophytes are limited to voting on financial matters).

Section D. Officer Qualifications (President and Treasurer only) Part one. The President and Treasurer of the student organization are required to meet the minimum requirements established for Minor Student Representative Student Officers by the CSU Chancellor’s Office. Part Two. Officers must be matriculated and enrolled (non-extended education) at Cal-State Fullerton. Part Three. Officers must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average each term. Part Four. Officers must be in good standing and must not be on probation of any kind. Part Five. Undergraduates are required to earn six semester units per term while holding office. Graduate and credential students must earn three semester units per term while holding office.

Section E. A copy of this constitution/by-laws and/or amendments to this constitution must be filed in the Dean of Students Office at CSU Fullerton every 2 years or within 90 days after any substantive change or amendment.
