DESIGN Organized by the January 7 - April 2, 2017 POP ART DESIGN

• Pop Art emerged in the post-war era, circa the fifties in the U.K. and the sixties in the U.S. • As an artistic movement, it is characterized by its appeals to vernacular, often “low-brow” visual language. • Focuses on products of mass media, mass production, and consumer culture as fixtures/undercurrents of contemporary daily living. • This exhibition focuses on the dialogue between fine art and design within the pop art movement.

Pop Art Design is organized by Vitra Design Museum in collaboration with the Louisiana Museum of (Denmark) and the in .

Support for the exhibition is provided by Pamela Schmider. POP ART DESIGN

• In explaining his inspiration for the show, Curator Mathias Schawrtz-Clauss of the Vitra Design Museum in Germany noted the links between many pieces held by the design museum’s collection and the “Pop Art phenomenon.” • Rounding out the visibility of Pop Art’s influence on design for this exhibition, the Louisiana (Denmark) and the Moderna Museet (), both early, important exhibitors of pop artists since the early sixties, were able to add to the concept from the wealth of their collections and their historical links to the movement. OCMA has built upon that impulse.

Pop Art Design is organized by Vitra Design Museum in collaboration with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark) and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

Support for the exhibition is provided by Pamela Schmider. POP ART DESIGN

“Pop Art is not simply presented as a phenomenon of the times... Instead the exhibition highlights the dialectic character of Pop Art, traces the migrations of images and motifs between the disciplines, sheds light on questions of media theory, and explores the boundaries between picture and appliance, between image and art.”

Information to podiums, shelfs and socles

- all podiums have the same height, we suggest 8 cm

- to keep the construction simple, we suggest to take a wooden board of 3cm thickness and lift it by an invisible construction below by 5 cm. It should look like the board is floating, you see nothing underneath, only a shadow gap

- All podiums except the podium for the group "Female Fetish" are painted in the floor color. Please check in the museum and try to come as close as possible to the grey you have on the floors

- The podium for the group "Female Fetish" ist painted in white, glossy

- If the budget allows, we would suggest to close the sides of the podium also with wood in the same color instead of leaving the board "floating".

- leave a 3cm gap to the wall for all podiums

- Shelves: all shelves which go on the wall are painted in white, wall color
