DX MAGAZINE No. 4 U Vol. LIII U April 2018

Hello again,

Welcome to another issue of our DX MAGAZINE. I have no news to report from inside the club this month - therefore let's just start with our usual news from outside the club - only one item in German this month:

(Bernd Seiser)

And with this best wishes and good DX until next month from

NOTE: this is NOT a complete schedule. The 12-13 UT English is normally on both transmitters, and HFCC confirms the other one remains on 7355 kHz, which Ivo has omitted. Also note the generally lower frequency bands this summer compared to last summer. This may be tricky from the Land of the Midnight Sun (almost). (gh, hcdx)

ALBANIA / CHINA - In Summer 2018, the Cerrik relay station of CRI uses the same schedule as in Summer 2017. E. g. in English: 0000-0200: 6020, 9570 (300 kW, 305() 0500-0700: 11710 (150 kW, 140() 0700-0900: 13710 (150 kW, 310() 1100-1300: 13665 (150 kW, 310() 2000-2200: 5960, 7285 (150 kW, 310() Listening to the content, the US-Sino-trade war features very prominently. The English service has obviously asked its correspondents to gather "independent material" on the conflict. Quite a number of academics and trade representatives from the US and other western countries voice their concern about the Trump decision. Practically, any good can be used to show the self-inflicted detrimental effects of the steel/aluminium war of the US. One of the stranger examples: What about the US economy, if the middle class masses of China do without US luxury goods? (Dr. Hansjoerg Biener, extensive monitoring project 30 and 31 April on China Radio International and other stations)

ANTARCTICA - 15475.97 kHz, LRA36, Radio Nacional Arcangel, San Gabriel, at Base Esperanza, 1800- UT, non stop Latin American songs "Boleros", weak to very weak on both and with fading. Improving signal, carrier detected here in Lugo at the moment, but the best time to catch it here is about 2000-2100 UT.

LRA36 Radio Nacional Arcangel, San Gabriel, Base Esperanza, on air for the first time this year. Station heard via SDR Kiwi Paraguay, both 15475.97 kHz. (Manuel Mendez-ESP, hcdx via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 22)

'Denge Welat' oder früher 'Radyoya Denge Kurdistane' Änderung: hat die Test-Offerierung von CJSC Gavar möglicherweise ausgeschlagen. Diese Aussendungen aus Armenien zeichneten sich durch einen verzerrten metallischen Audio Klang aus. Unscheduled transmission of WRNO Radio in A-18 on April 2: till 0623 7505 RNO 50 kW 20 deg to ENAm English from 0623 7505 RNO 50 kW 20 deg to ENAm Chinese

Previous summer A-17 schedule of WRNO in English/Chinese: 0100-0300 7505 RNO 50 kW 20 deg to ENAm English 0300-0400 7505 RNO 50 kW 20 deg to ENAm Chinese (Ivo Ivanov-BUL, hcdx via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews April 2)

In a recent QSL, KIMF World Missions say they will start shortwave transmissions in the USA later this year on a frequency of 6065 kHz beamed to Mexico, 13570 kHz beamed to Cuba and 9300 kHz beamed to Asia. (Patrick Cody, 25 Feb, March BrDXC-UK "Communication" magazine via dxld March 13)

Registered in the HFCC as KIMF with transmitter location at Beowawe, Nevada. 25

?? What was there to QSL as of yet?? KIMF has been registering imaginary schedules for years and years. HFCC A-18 shows about the same for IMF: 6065 0100 0600 10 50 138 0 901 1234567 250318 281018 Spa FCC 1176 9300 0800 1200 44 100 313 0 901 1234567 250318 281018 Eng FCC 1246 13570 0000 0400 11 100 108 0 901 1234567 250318 281018 Spa FCC 1383

Does this mean they will have two transmitters, a 50 and a 100 which can run simultaneously at 0100-0400 UT? Not necessarily. As we have explained before, Beowawe is between Battle Mountain and Elko, just south of I-80. Anyone traveling by there should check out what is to be seen. (gh, hcdx and dxld March 13)

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the April edition of Logbook for this year.

During the last week of March I was on a vacation to Varadero in Cuba.

I decided to carry my radio on this trip and the first thing that happened was the inspection of the radio by Cuban customs at the Airport.

I realized that radio still plays an important role in this country for international news where internet is still not widespread and very expensive.

The two main broadcasters besides Radio Habana are Radio Rebelde and Radio Progreso both of which have 31 a footprint on shortwave as per WRTH 2018. I could not listen to Radio Progreso on shortwave but both these stations have lot many relay transmissions on MW and FM via local stations throughout Cuba.

The new MW transmitter of TWR Bonaire on 800 kHz can be heard loud during their 3 hour Spanish broadcast to Cuba. But they switch antennas due to to which their English broadcast preceding this 3 hour slot and their Spanish broadcast to Caribbean thereafter cannot be heard in Cuba.

Radio Marti can be heard good though sometimes an occasional jammer kicks in and goes. Many US radio stations on MW from Florida and adjacent US states can be heard on channels where no local Cuban stations are present. Early morning I observed that Radio Bahamas on MW fades in for an hour before sunrise with good signal.

I have included my loggings above.

Thanks to our regular contributors,
