My name is Danielle Mar and I am your ASGWC Student Body President. I’m a business major and this is my third year at GWC. These years at Golden West have been the best, and I’m grateful and honored to have this opportunity to serve you all. My hope for this role and this last semester is to meet as any of you as possible and share all the opportunities that our college has to offer. One of the best areas to get involved in is student government (ASGWC). Within this group, everyone has the chance to be a part of an amazing team and family. I have seen personalities develop and confidence grow- not only can you flourish as a person, but you can also expand your resume and work experience. In Associated Students, we are responsible for brainstorming, planning, and advertising for the majority of activities you can participate in: Open Mic nights, movie nights, panel discussions, town halls, GWC App challenges, etc. Our goal is to create the most fun and exciting events for everyone, especially during these difficult times. We are always looking for more people to join student government throughout the year, and I hope you will be one of the new additions!

I can’t wait for all of the possibilities this semester!

All the best, Danielle Mar STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT BODY STUDENT DANIELLE MAR DANIELLE 2 20:21

Erish Araneta is a first year college student in the Publicity Committee and Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society. She tells us,

"This is my first semester here and I can't believe how many events, opportunities, and help GWC offers. I love everything I do at GWC and It's amazing how I really see the effect that it has on the campus.” As an active member of the Publicity Committee, Erish makes media for events and publicizes events to encourage students to attend. She stresses, “A big part of going to college is forming those life-long bonds we'll all treasure. The first step to making these is looking for others with the same interest as you… I've met so many amazing people when going to clubs and I'm honestly so happy that I joined them!”

Kaly Mendoza is a first-year GWC student currently involved in the Sustainability Committee and Alpha Gamma Sigma. She is also one of the co-presidents of the Young Democrats of America club. Like many students, she understands that being in college online can be a scary experience. “ASGWC gives me a way to be involved with the campus and make connections with people who I have grown very close to over the past few months.” Being involved has helped them greatly and they encourage everyone to do the same. She tells us, “Joining ASGWC and other clubs helps you build a sense of community and be a part of a family who bleeds with the same passions as you do. You never have to worry about feeling alone or unsupported because the people involved in these groups are all there to welcome you in and help you grow.” Nardeen Gerges is a first year college student involved in multiple clubs and committees. Besides being a member of the Publicity Committee, the Student Interest Committee, the Student Senate, the Young Democrats of America club, she is the Black Student Union President. “ASGWC has genuinely changed my whole experience at Golden West.”

She believes it is a great way to connect with other students, meet new people, and work on projects with other members. She encourages everyone to join student government or clubs so that they can have a way to communicate with people who are focused on helping out their community.

Marissa Lavezzari is a first-year college student involved in the College Life Committee, Vist the link to apply Publicity Committee, and Alpha Gamma Sigma. She is also the president of the Baseball Club.

“Over the past few months, I have seen significant growth in being a more effective communicator and group leader. Being in ASGWC has connected me with so many amazing people that work very hard to better the online campus experience as well as to achieve their own goals, which has inspired me to do the same.” Marissa mentions that joining a committee can help you make the change you want to see. She advises, “ if you do not like the events that are being held or how they are being publicized, join ASGWC so that you have a say in what is being provided to the GWC community."

16 OH NO, RUSTLER SAM IS MISSING! NOW IT'S UP TO YOU TO FIND HIM!

bit.ly/ASGWCSpring2021

Who is Rustler Sam?

Howdy Rustlers, it's Rustler Sam here! In case you are new in town, I have been your mascot for 52 years. When my creator, Tom K. Ryan designed me, I originally had stubble on my face and a cigarette hanging out of my mouth. As times kept changing I felt that it was time to give myself a makeover, so I shaved and quit smoking. I hope I have made the Smoke Free Task Force here on campus proud. Anyway, I will always call Golden West College my home, and I hope to meet more of you soon!
