TOP 10 LIST CREATED BY ED FRITTS, ASA (FM&C), DASA-BU

We have a list below of the Top 10 Windows 10 features. There are many features Windows 10 can do and we tried to narrow the list. Below we will name and give a brief description of each feature and the page its starts on. We used screen captures with step by step instructions.

(1) Adding Virtual Desktops: (Page 2) Virtual desktops allow you to separate your open programs into categories, such as for work, gaming, checking social media, or web surfing.

(2) Address Window: (Page 2) we can use the Address toolbar to get to the Services panel, launch programs, and search the web and all that happy good stuff. It uses Bing, instead of Google, but you can easily get to Google from this window if needed.

(3) Sign Out is now the new way of Logging off: (Page 3) Windows 10 version of Logging Off is Sign Out.

(4) Print to PDF: (Page 4) you now have the option to print any document to .PDF, a new feature with Windows 10.

(5) Snap: (Page 5) you can now “Snap” up to four windows on one screen equally.

(6) Live Tiles: (Page 6) Each HQ ABO personnel will be authorized one live tile. The tile will be the “Weather”.

(7) Change : (Page 9) Customize the taskbar to how you like it from the taskbar itself.

(8) : (Page 10) The Action Center lists information about your latest e-mails, for example, as well times of upcoming appointments, and other notifications. It also provides a list of four handy buttons along the bottom.

(9) Tiles: (Page 14) it is a new Windows 10 feature that allows you to quickly access Apps (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) You can add Internet Shortcuts. You can move, size, add, and delete tiles.

(10) Taskbar: (Page 19) Has many benefits for shortcut to Apps ie: Outlook, , Word, Access, etc… You can have shortcuts to Folders. We’ll show you neat tricks to quickly launch your apps per Taskbar.

1. Adding Virtual Desktops: Virtual desktops allow you to separate your open programs into categories, such as for work, gaming, checking social media, or web surfing.

a. Mouse: Click Icon on the Taskbar and then click the plus sign to the

right of your computer .

b. : Windows Key + CRTL + D See picture below

B. Switch between Virtual Desktops you’ve created on the right

a. Mouse: Click Task View Icon on the Taskbar and then click on the desktop you

want .

b. Keyboard Shortcut: Windows Key + CRTL + Right Arrow to move right

and Windows Key + CRTL + Left Arrow to move left.

2. Address Window: We can use the Address toolbar to get to the Services panel, launch programs, and search the web and all that happy good stuff. It uses Bing, instead of Google, but you can easily get to Google from this windows if needed. Note: You can type CNN, then hold the CTRL and and it will put the prefix and suffix in automatically and then click the Enter key. a. Mouse: Right-click anywhere on the Taskbar and left click Toolbars and then left click Address. See sample below.

3. Sign Out is now the new way of Logging off: Windows 10 version of Logging Off is Sign Out.

a. Mouse: Right-Click on , then click “Shut Down or Sign Out”, and then click “Sign Out”.

b. Keyboard Shortcut: Hold Windows Key + “X”, then let go of both keys,

then press “U” key , then press “I” key

c. Note: You can use both methods above to perform a Shut Down and Restart, just changing the last step.

4. Print to PDF: You now have the option to print any document to .PDF, a new feature with Windows 10.

a. Mouse: Click File , then click Print , then click down

arrow and click “Adobe PDF”, then click Print button

5. Snap: You can now “Snap” up to four windows on one screen equally. a. Mouse: Click and drag the header of each window to either upper left corner, upper right corner, lower left corner, or lower right corner. Each window will equal 25%. Sample below:

b. Keyboard Shortcut: click on the header of each window, hold the windows key

+ arrow key: i. Left arrow key: Moves the window left. ii. Right arrow key: Moves the window right. iii. Up arrow key: Full screen. iv. Down arrow key: Minimize the window.

6. Live Tiles: Each HQ ABO personnel will be authorized one live tile. The tile will be the “Weather”.

7. Change Taskbar settings: Customize the taskbar to how you like it from the taskbar itself. a. Mouse: Right-Click in any empty space on the Taskbar, then click Settings. See below the options that are available. I chose 3 below. See red arrows.

8. Action Center: The Action Center lists information about your latest e-mails, for example, as well times of upcoming appointments, and other notifications. It also provides a list of four handy buttons along the bottom. It’s the last ICON on your Taskbar . Left click on ICON.

Center” ICON . Click on the “All Settings” ICON. Click on System .

Now you can turn “On” or “Off” different types of Notifications. I clicked ON “Show notifications in action center”. I changed the “Number of notifications visible in action center” to 10. I clicked the radio button next to: “Top” Show at the top of action center.

Note: When a new notification arrives the Action Center ICON will turn “White”. Once you view your new notification the Action Center will turn back to “Black”. See both examples below.

Action Center ICON was opened and it goes back to “Black”.

9. Tiles: It’s a new Windows 10 feature that allows you to quickly access Apps (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc…). You can add Internet Shortcuts. You can move, size, add, and delete tiles. a. Bring up Tiles:

i. Mouse: Left click on the Start Icon (Located lower left hand corner of screen).

ii. Keyboard Shortcut: Hold the Windows Key down on the Keyboard. b. Add new Tiles:

i. Mouse: Right Click on any App example “” and click “Pin to Start”. It will add the new app as a

new tile.

d. Move Tiles: i. Mouse: Click on any tile and drag it to any position. e. Add Group Name: i. Mouse: Hover right above any tile and you’ll see

Name group appear. Click inside the box and give it a Name. Our example we named it “Screen Captures”

Next, type in the web address you want to create a Tile for (See below example, http://www.cnn.com), click next button.

Type Name: “CNN” in the box. See example below. Click Finish button

Now, we need to right click on the Start Menu , click on “Run”. See example below.

Type: “shell.programs” in the Open box. Click “OK” button. See example below.

Now copy and paste the shortcut from your Desktop to the window shown below.

Now click on your Start ICON . Scroll down on the left and the shortcut will show up in alphabetical order. Right click on the shortcut, then click “Pin to Start” and it will now show up as a new Tile.

Now you can drag the new tile to where you want. I added my new Tile “CNN” to my Browsers group. See example below.

10. Taskbar: Has many benefits for shortcut to Apps ie: Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Access, etc… You can have shortcuts to Folders. We’ll show you neat tricks to quickly launch your apps per Taskbar. a. How to add a app to the Taskbar:

i. Mouse: Left click on the Start ICON , now left click and drag any app to the Taskbar. Our example is “ACCESS”. See below example:

b. Add a Folder to your Taskbar. i. Mouse: Right click on any open space on your Taskbar, click Toolbars and then click New toolbar. See example below.

Next, you click the folder you would like to be on your Taskbar. Our example below were choosing “2017_National_PDI_Training”, click Select Folder button.

Now it’s part of the Taskbar and you can click the >> to see all contents within that folder. See example below.

c. Quick launch apps on your Taskbar: You can click and drag any app on your taskbar to

any position you desire. You can click the Windows Key and then hit corresponding number on top row of the keyboard to launch any application. See example below for further explanation of how the numbers launch Apps.
