Windows 10 – Applications Windows 10 lets you access your applications in several ways. The easiest way is to search for the name of application using the Search box in the Taskbar.

Another basic option is to scroll through the start menu which lists all your applications.

Pinning programs to the start menu

By right-clicking on a program, you can select the option to pin it to the start menu. Programs pinned to the start menu will appear as stacked icons which are faster to find than searching through all the applications. Icons can be unpinned in a similar way: just right-click the program and select "Unpin from Start".

Creating Groups

Clicking between two groups of icons will allow you to create a name for the group.

After the group is created you can click on the blue = symbol to drag the group around and reposition it in the start menu

Jump Lists

If you right click on a program either in the start menu or from the taskbar, you can access a list of commonly used files (under "Recent") by that program when applicable.

Logoff, Restart,

Clicking the power symbol allows you to Shut down, Sleep, or Restart

Clicking on the state of Wisconsin symbol allows you to lock or sign out of your .

Windows Search

The search function in windows 10 is designed to not only look through files on the computer but also external hard drives, flash drives, networked PCs and libraries.

While searching from the start menu, windows will only search a small set of folders. If you are unable to find a file, try opening from the taskbar. In the upper-right hand corner of the file explorer, there will be a search box ("Search Quick access"). Using this should provide more robust search of your files

Windows 10 - Changing the Default App

Edge is the default browser in Windows 10. However, you may wish to change the default browser from Edge to a different browser, particularly if you encounter issues with certain websites in Edge. This document describes the steps for making this change.

1. Click on the Start menu, then begin typing default app settings; select the Default app settings when it appears.

2. Your current default applications will be shown. Scroll down to bottom until you see Web browser, with the current default being displayed below.

3. Click on the current default browser to reveal the list of browsers you currently have installed. Select the browser you wish to set as your default. Exit the when you are done. The time you click on a hyperlink, it will open in the browser you selected. What is the difference between and Edge?

Edge is Microsoft’s newly designed web browser for Windows 10. Windows 10 – Notifications/Action Center Windows 10 features a new way to present notifications. You can see them in the Notification Area in the lower-right corner of your screen.

Clicking the Notification icon will bring up a called the action center.

The upper part of the sidebar features Tips and App notifications, while the lower part of the sidebar presents a series of Quick Action buttons.

Using Quick Actions Windows 10 shows only four Quick actions by default. Click on "Expand ^" link to see all available Quick actions on your computer. Click on any of Quick action to perform specific quick action

The quick actions below are available on most of Windows 10 :

Pin an Application to the Taskbar Step 1 − Search for the application you want to pin in the Start Menu.

Step 2 − Right-click on the application.

Step 3 − Select “More” option at the top of the menu.

Step 4 − Select the “Pin to taskbar” option.

This will attach or “pin” the application icon to your Windows Taskbar. Unpin an Application from the Taskbar To “unpin” it, just right-click the icon in the Taskbar and select “Unpin from taskbar”. You can “pin” it back again any time you want.

Task View Task View allows you to quickly move within your open windows and applications. You can access it by clicking the “Task View” button from the Taskbar.

You can also press and hold the , and then press to achieve the same result.

By pressing the Alt+Tab keyboard also serves a similar purpose.

Desktop Switching

One of the innovative features of Windows 10 is the addition of Virtual Desktops. This allows you to have multiple desktop screens, where you can keep open windows organized.

To add a , follow these steps −

Step 1 − Click Task View icon on the Taskbar.

Step 2 − Click “New Desktop” option on the lower-right corner. You can access or delete the new Desktop by clicking Task View icon again.

Windows 10 - Keyboard Shortcuts Like most Windows applications, there are several keyboard shortcuts you can use to make it easier or faster for some to perform certain tasks.
