.. True faith seeks understanding. St. said, “I believe in order to understand, & I understand the better to believe.” Laudate ST. GENEVIEVE FUNDRAISERS

Parishioners of St. Genevieve Parish: The Fundraising Committee would like to take this opportunity to explain the reason for not selling Pre-Advanced tickets. Things are changing in our Parish & we are finding that in some areas we need to change with the times. Buying tickets at the door on the day of the event has helped us keep better track of the number of plates we sell, and has greatly alleviated the work that must be accomplished to sell Pre-Advanced tickets.

The work entails: designing the tickets, getting the tickets printed, printing out the mailing list (and going through it to assure we don’t send tickets to people who have told us they do not want tickets), printing labels, stuffing envelopes, and taking the boxes of envelopes to the Post Office. The Parish Office (who is extremely busy on a day-to-day basis) is no longer responsible for selling tickets, and there are no longer multiple deposits that have to be made (we now do one deposit and that is for the monies raised the day of the event).

This may not seem like a lot of work when you see it written out, but be assured it is very time consuming. The lack of volunteers has caused us to re-evaluate how we manage our fundraisers, and thus we decided to not sell Pre-Advanced tickets. We hope you will become receptive of this new practice and continue to participate in our fundraisers.

We are very Grateful for Your Patience, Understanding, and Continued Support!

Born: 20 April 1586 Died: 24 August 1617 Canonized: 14 April 1671 Feast Day: 23 August

St. , the first person born in the Western Hemisphere to be canonized by the Roman . She is the of Peru and all of South America as well as of embroiderers, gar- deners, and florists.

Born into a noble family, Rosa (the name by which she was always known) was drawn to penitential practices and a spiritual life at a young age. Her mother wanted her to marry and initially refused to allow her daughter to pursue religious life. To deter suitors, the beautiful Rosa cut off her hair and blistered her skin with hot peppers. The struggle between them lasted 10 years, during which time Rosa made a perpetual vow of virginity, taking St. as her model. In 1606 her mother relented and allowed Rosa to become a Dominican of the third order, though her parents did not permit her to live in a convent. Instead, Rosa chose strict enclosure and contemplation and withdrew to the seclusion of a hut in the family garden, where she endured a life of severe austerity and asceticism. She regularly wore a crown of thorns, practiced fasting, slept only a few hours a night on a bed of potsherds, self-flagellated, and experienced numerous visions, particularly of the Devil. Though she was largely a recluse, Rosa was devoted to the sick and hungry in her community and often brought them to her hut to care for them. She was skilled in needlework and sold her fine lace and embroidery and the flowers that she grew in her garden to help her family and to raise funds for the poor. Her funeral was an occasion of public honor, and many miracles were said to have occurred after her death.
