! Please download the main tutorial for the Bernina 630/640, 430/440/450 machines, as this addendum simply walks you through embellishing the cover with ruffles. You’ll need the main tutorial for dimensions and sewing instructions.

For all instructions where width of fabric (WOF) is called for, assume 42 inches off the bolts. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

For the ruffles, 3 strips, WOF, 2 inches wide. Serge one long edge of each. the other long edge of each, using a contrasting color and a hemmer foot. I used the #63 Bernina foot, which is a 3mm hemmer foot, length 2.40mm, needle position one click to the right. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Switch over to the #1 , and butt up a guide to the edge of the foot and use it to sew a 2nd row of topstitching. Put the ruffler foot on, #6 position, stitch length 1.5mm. Ruffle all 3 strips. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

For center panel ruffle, cut a piece of contrast fabric 4-1/4 inches wide, width of fabric. With right sides together, serge long edge to make a tube. Turn it right side out, and press flat, with the seam in the middle. ! Change thread to contrast color, and put in a 4mm double needle. Fill a with the same thread for the 2nd needle. ! ! ! ! ! ! Set the stitch length to 3mm and move the needle

Switch thread to match the fabric and the ruffler foot, set in the #6 position with a stitch length of 3mm, ruffle down the center of the tube. If you ruffle the tube with the seam side up, you can use the seam to keep your needle centered on it. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Cut a 9.5 inch strip of coordinating fabric the width of fabric. Right sides together, serge the long ends to make a tube. Turn right side out and press, seam in the middle. ! Center on main body panel and use some 505 adhesive spray to hold it in place and edge stitch in place. Make sure to sew both sides the same direction, so the fabric doesn’t twist. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Using a wide , Sew the wider onto each edge of the center panel you just finished sewing on, aligning along the edge with just a bit overlapping. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Sew the ruffled tube with the edge stitching (you have one of this ruffle, and three of the bottom ruffles) down the center of the center panel you just added. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Draw a line with a water or air soluble market 21/4 inches up from the front bottom edge of the main body panel. Sew the first ruffle to the main body panel, up the serged edge of the ruffle with the drawn line. ! Mark the next line 1/2 inch up from the first ruffle and sew in place. ! Repeat for the third ruffle. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

!Sew decorate trim across the serged edge of the final ruffle.! Sew decorative down the center panel.! ! Trim the bottom and top edges even, sew the on, and trim the ruffles even with !the sides.! Finish as per original tutorial. ! ! ! ! !
