The 4-inch ruffle at the bottom and loose makes the dress flow easily. The fabric is 100% . Amanda is wearing her yellow Vans to match the yellow and white in the outfit. She is all set for any occasion this summer.

I. PROJECT GOAL AND EVALUATION (5 points)

A. What goal did you set for the Clothing Event? My goal for the clothing event project was to purchase a dress/outfit to wear to a cousins wedding in June. It was a casual event so I wanted a dress that would be comfortable to wear while dancing yet be appropriate for a wedding attire and yet one I can use for church and other dressy events, such as home hockey games.

B. How did you go about reaching your goal? Did you reach your goal? Explain I went shopping with my mom to Target in the Twin Cities. I tried on several outfits, and dresses and found this dress to purchase for the wedding. We have shopped there several times as the items change weekly. I reached my goal of finding a comfortable fitting and feeling dress that I can wear to the wedding and yet I can add a jean jacket or cardigan to make it a more casual look. I can also add a long shirt or turtleneck and legging underneath to extend its wear into the winter months for Hockey season. I went o Marshalls in the Twin Cities and found this simple short sleeve white shirt to wear under the dress.

II. CHOOSING CLOTHING TO ENHANCE APPEARANCE AND INCREASE SELF CONFIDENCE (10 points)

A. How does this garment/outfit express your personality? How is the color, fabric, style, or fit of this garment/outfit a good choice for your size, or your body shape? The dress is mid thigh length which is cute for my age as a middle schooler. I like the floral of different muted colors so I can wear different earrings, cardigans, or jackets with it to change the look or season depending on the event I plan to wear it too. For the summer I have chosen to wear the short sleeve white shirt. We have to dress up for home hockey games and if I put a sweater over it or a thin long sleeve shirt under it, I can extend the dress’ wear through more seasons. The fabric is 100% rayon , so it is soft and comfortable. I like to dance and move around in this dress and the style, fabric and fit all are very comfortable for me. The spaghetti straps are adjustable so I can extend its wear as I grow taller. The shirt is 94% and 4% which is stretchy with my activities.

B. Why do you think the fabric is a good choice for the garment design and features? The fabric being 100% rayon is good for this dress as it makes the fabric very soft and comfortable to wear. The rayon makes the fabric have a bit of a sheen to it and makes the floral print stand out on the solid-colored background. The fabric gathers nicely at the hemline to make a soft ruffle. The at the arm holes, neckband and back all lay well with this fabric type. The 94% polyester and 4% spandex fiber content of the shirt is stretchy and allows it to keep my cool and comfortable as I move about at the wedding dance or parties and church.

C. How does this garment/outfit show/reflect current trends? [color(s), fit, shape(s), texture(s)] This dress being mid-thigh length is poplar now. The floral print of muted color flowers on a solid color background is also a popular fashion trend now. The spaghetti straps are adjustable so that I get the right fit each time I wear the dress/outfit. The wide ruffle hemline adds charm to the dress. The rayon fabric texture is cool and comfortable to wear. The classic white short sleeve shirt with scoop neckline is always in style and can be used with other items in my wardrobe. The polyester/spandex blend make the shirt feel soft and smooth against my skin.

D. In what way did the design elements and principles found in this garment/outfit help you to choose this garment/outfit? Participants in grades 9-10 are responsible for identifying a minimum of one art principle (rhythm, emphasis, proportion, balance, unity) and the element or elements (shape/form, color, texture, line) used in the selected principle. Participants in grade 11-12 are responsible for identifying a minimum of two art principles and the elements used in the selected principles. Youth must explain how the elements are used to illustrate the selected principle(s).

The colors of the flowers add emphasis to the dress and are what attracted me to the garment. I do not have these colors in my wardrobe and having a yellow dress is what I wanted since I already had the yellow Vans shoes. The floral print extends all throughout the dress and adds balance to the dress. The gathered ruffle hemline and loose waistline make a flowy which adds rhythm to the dress as I move in it. The white shirt is neutral in color and adds unity to the outfit by having white in the shirt, dress and shoes.

III. CHOOSING WITH A PURPOSE (9 points)

A. What occasions, purposes, or activities did you have in mind when you selected or constructed this garment/outfit? Why do you think this garment is appropriate for this occasion, purpose, or activity? The occasions I had in mind when purchasing this dress was to first wear it to a cousins wedding in Minnesota in June. It was a casual event and ended up being a very hot day. (90 degrees!) So, this dress was perfect for the event. The fabric content is so comfortable I felt very comfortable wearing the dress and shirt outfit. I wore to a photo shoot I did with my mom’s friend in Minneapolis. It was also very hot that day (93 degrees) and I kept cool and comfortable and had fun wearing it for all the pictures. I also plan to wear the dress to church, special parties and to home hockey games. This dress and shirt can be mixed and matched it with other items in my wardrobe and wear it for all seasons. It is so comfortable so works well for many events and will not get too wrinkled in my hockey bag!

B. What functional characteristics (protection, movement, thermal, etc.) did you want in your garment/outfit and how does this garment/outfit match your intent? The functional characteristic that I wanted in this dress was for it to be comfortable. I accomplished this with the fabric content being of 100% rayon which is very comfortable to wear. This fabric content makes the dress style easy to wear to many events. The sundress style is comfortable to wear and will not fall off my shoulders when dancing or moving. The classic shirt style and polyester/spandex blend is stretchy and feels cool and comfortable to wear at all times.

I choose to my yellow and white Vans shoes with this dress to make it a more casual look. I can wear my white sandals with it for a more dressy look. I can add a denim jean jacket is very neutral in color and style so I can add it to many other outfits in my wardrobe. I can also wear a cardigan and leggings or long sleeve shirt to extend wearing the dress in the cooler months.

E. Explain why the cost per wearing, care required, and wardrobe addition of this garment/outfit is reasonable in terms of your total clothing budget. The cost per wearing at $1.74 is very reasonable. The care of this garment is standard and similar to other items in my wardrobe. I like to line dry my items to make them last longer and keep energy costs down. So this item fits very well into my clothing budget as I like to get a good deal on my clothes, and look nice and be in style without a lot of cost since I am still growing and may not get to wear this dress for several years.
