In the twelve years of its existence over 200,000 people from all over Europe were imprisoned here and more than 43,000 died. On April 29 1945, American troops liberated the survivors. We have arranged an indoor football tournament in the Soccer Arena at the Olympic Park. These pitches have specially designed cushioned surfaces and at the sides to minimize injuries. Please remember to bring football gear and suitable runners. It’s very warm in this arena, so light t-shirts and shorts are all you’ll need. The soccer tournament will finish at about 22:00 and afterwards we make our way back to the hotel for the night. Page 6 of 11 Munich Itinerary DAY 4 Monday 4th November 2019 Munich Tour Breakfast will be served at the hotel. After breakfast this morning we will spend time visiting some of the many attractions in the city. Today we will be on the U-Bahn all day and we won’t have the use of the coach. We’ll visit the original Bayern Munich stadium. The new one is pictured here as well but it’s not available on the day. The best bit of it is the colour changing outside anyway. Its maximum capacity is under 70,000 so it’s a long way short of Croke Park. Next, we’ll visit the top of the communications tower in the Olympiapark to see the sights of the city from on high. The Olympiaturm has an overall height of 291 m and a weight of 52,500 tonnes. At a height of 190 m there is an observation platform as well as a small rock and roll museum housing various memorabilia. Since its opening in 1968 the tower has registered over 35 million visitors. At a height of 182 m there is a revolving restaurant that seats 230 people. A full revolution takes 53 minutes. The tower has one DeutscheTelekom elevator with a speed of 4 m/s, as well as two visitor lifts with a speed of 7 m/s which have a capacity of about 30 people per car. The travel time is about 30 seconds. We will continue to the BMW showrooms in the tornado building. Page 7 of 11 Munich Itinerary About 12:30, we will visit Munich Cathedral specially because of its Carmelite connections. Afterwards we’ll have a break in the city centre for lunch. The afternoon will be spent on a walking tour of Munich City centre including some of the most famous sights from the time of the Nazis. There are still many remnants from this era, some well-known, some not so well known. Weather permitting, we will take the trip to the top of the Town Hall. On a clear day, it’s possible to see the Alps from this height. When we get back to the hotel, it’s time to pack for the journey home the next day. In the evening time travel by U-bahn to Olympia Bowling. Page 8 of 11 Munich Itinerary 21:00 A reservation has been confirmed for the group to go bowling for 2 hours DAY 5 Tuesday 5th November 2019 MUNICH ‒ IRELAND Breakfast will be served at the hotel. Check out of hotel. We will be on the coach. We must leave for 09:00 to get everything done today. Site of the Munich Beer festival Page 9 of 11 Munich Itinerary Olympic Pool We should be able to use the high diving boards here. Anyone who completes the training successfully may try the 10 metre diving board. Entrance fee is €4∙20 per person. All participating boys must be able to swim at least 100 m. At 12:30 we leave for Munich city centre. The group will have time for a meal and some last-minute shopping. The best shopping area for souvenirs etc is around the Cathedral of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) and the Marienplatz where there are many of Germany’s largest and most well-known department stores.
