Abstract The is the last part of a series dealing with the family Cancellariidae in the Plio-Pleistocene of Italy. The present work focuses on the genera Bivetiella Wenz, 1943, Sveltia Jousseaume, 1887, Calcarata Jousseau- me, 1887, Solatia Jousseaume, 1887, Trigonostoma Blainville, 1827 and Brocchinia Jousseaume, 1887. The genus Bivetiella includes B. similis (G.B. Sowerby, 1833), herein first recorded from the Pleistocene of Italy, and B. cancellata (Linnéo, 1767). Sveltia includes S. varicosa (Brocchi, 1814) and S. lyrata (Brocchi, 1814), whereas Calcarata is only represented by C. calcarata (Brocchi, 1814). Three species of Solatia are present in the Italian Plio-Pleistocene: S. hirta (Brocchi, 1814), S. aff. barjonae (Da Costa, 1866) and Sola tia sp. 1. However, Solatia hirta seems to consist of a complex of species, differing from each other in protoconch and teleoconch characters, needing further studies on more abundant and better preserved material, which could be also useful to clarify the status of the two other Solatia species. For Trigonosto ma, the occurrence in the Pliocene of Italy is confirmed for T. ampullaceum (Brocchi, 1814), T. umbilicare (Brocchi, 1814), T. bellardii De Stefani & Pantanelli, 1879, T. parvotriangula Sacco, 1894 and T. cassideum (Brocchi, 1814). The occurrence of another species, Trigonostoma compressohirta (Sacco, 1894), needs to be confirmed. Three species are reported for the genus Brocchinia: B. depressiplicata Sacco, 1894, repla- cement name for B. mitraeformis (Brocchi, 1814) homonym of Voluta mitraeformis Lamarck, 1811 and of Brocchinia tauroparva Sacco, 1894, a distinct Miocene species; together with Brocchinia subanodosa Sac- co, 1894, often confused with B. depressiplicata, and Brocchinia crassinodosa Sacco, 1894, a poorly known species. All of the species are illustrated, commented and compared with other species. Within Ariantinae, C. obtusus stands out because of its aberrant cylindrical shell shape. Here, we present phylogenetic trees based on these five marker sequences and discuss the position of C. obtusus and phylogeographical scenarios in comparison with previously published results. Our results provide strong support for the sister-group relationship between Cylindrus and Arianta confirming previous studies and imply that the split between the two genera is quite old. The tree reveals a phylogeographical pattern of Ariantinae with a well-supported clade comprising the Balkan taxa which is the sister group to a clade with individuals from Alpine localities.

Mai 2019 IRA RICHLING th Abstract: The malacologist Dr. WOLFGANG RÄHLE (born 19.03.1939) died on May 20 2019 in Tuebingen, Germany. In appreciation of his life's achievements a short biography together with a compilation of his academic publications, the taxa described by him and the taxa named in his honour is presented. In his scientific work RÄHLE contributed 1) to the systematics of slugs (Agriolimacidae, Milacidae, Limacidae) and a few other taxa with geographic focus on southeastern Europe and the Macaronesian Islands and 2) to the knowledge on quarternary molluscs in geological, archaeological and cultural context. In his academic teaching at the University of Tuebingen, he became a legend because of his natural teaching genuity, his authenticity and a mixture of high expectations and appreciation based on profound knowledge. Students experienced his lectures as the most influential in their studies and several of them retained a long-lasting interest in malacology, among them several very active members of the German Malacological Society. Keywords: malacologist, systematics, slugs, southeastern Europe, Macaronesian Islands, quarternary molluscs, geology, archaeology, cultural remains, biography, bibliography Zusammenfassung: Der Malakologe Dr. WOLFGANG RÄHLE (geboren am 19.03.1939) verstarb am 20. Mai 2019 in Tübingen.
