With the construction of the new 16 km RER train line that connects Geneva to Annemasse, several public space pro- jects were implemented by the Canton of Geneva towards a secondary network of mobility that connects the new train stations. The connection between the new Lancy-Pont Rouge and Lancy-Bachet stations through a new mixed-use pedestrian and bicycle pathway was the goal of an interna- tional competition and subsequent project. A very intense administrative procedure was undertaken during the whole project development and permitted a high degree of interac- tion with local authorities and citizens groups.

The place of “Ribeira das Naus” is central and essential to local, national and world culture. The place can be described as the Mythic Arsenal where ships were built or repaired before initiating the discovery of new maritime routes between Europe and the rest of the world, beginning the first movement of Globalization. Ribeira das Naus has always been a twin space to Terreiro do Paço - the main city square in front of the Royal Palace. A huge empty space relating Town, the Royal Palace, and the sandy margin of the River Tejo. After the big heartquake of 1755, the most of down town was destroyed, not only by the trembling earth as also by a tsunami as a series of fires that lasted for days. The entire city was then subjected to an Illuminist plan of reconstruction trough which, aristocrat and religious power were spatially subjected to a new rationalist order. Surprisingly the most of the landscape elements on place (dock, shipyard platforms, and a dry dock) persisted in the new design scheme, as it is visible in the prolific iconography and cartography that reached our days. In spite of the Imperial scale and atmosphere that characterizes the new twin square renamed Praça do Comercio, the Place of Ribeira das Naus remained until 1940 with the same typology of spatial elements. Only then, when this mysterious and almost inaccessible place was trimmed of the direct contact with the River Tejo by a new avenue for car circulation, its structure and order were transfigured and its sense lost. The project proposed to redefine the place by re-aligning the bank of the river; reorganizing traffic and pedestrian circulation along with the new Lisbon cycling system; redefine the spatial relation with the Navy Admiralty that occupies since ever the space; and proposing a timeless con- templation of fossilized elements buried under layers of time and earth. This tension between elements from the past (docks, shipyard ramps, etc), and the new design language will create a new vibrant space of circulation and contemplative permanence of the elements of memory and a new style of living the river’s presence.

This new 26 storey high-rise tower in Lisbon’s skyline will offer high standard apartments and high quality private open spaces. In the lower floor, the new indoor SPA opens to the private gardens where a paddle field and a running track are some of the new equipment’s offered by the condominium. In the ground floor, in direct relation with the streets surrounding the new tower, a hardscaping plaza welcomes visitors and residents in a high-quality space. The proximity of a high traffic railway resulted in the creation of a strong green barrier in the adjacent slopes. A rooftop pool and several private gardens in some of the tower’s apartments were also part of the commision.

A high density new urban centrality and a green corridor crossing it was the main theme of this international com- petition for the Etoile Quarter in the outskirts of Geneva. The recovery and natural restauration of a water course, the Drize, was one of the consequences of the possibility of freeing open space as result of construction in eight. This ambitious new paradigm for the old Geneva was one of the main characteristics of the winning proposal and has to be seen in conjunction with the not less ambitious task of creating a urban natural riverscape that could respond to a possible flooding scenario and act as part of a broader strategy of risk management.

The renovation and extension of the German School of Lisbon, led by the portuguese renowned Architect Carrilho da Graça, was a very delicate intervention set in a pre-existing school complex of the Modern Movement designed by the german Architect Otto Bartning in 1957, one of his latest works. Adapting the existing campus to the new functional and programmatic needs was one of the main goals. Another challenge was to undertake this major transformation with the school fully functioning, which demanded a very complex and demanding coordinating exercise. A new sports hall and a new building for the primary school were added to the complex creating new synergies with the existing exterior spaces. A new outdoor football field and running track as well as a new outdoor playground for the existing kindergarten were part of the added program.
