Visa Process:

In order to process the visa application in your country/region, you must have the following documents along with your Portuguese visa application form to study in Portugal, you will also need to have gained prior acceptance onto a course at a Portuguese university or place of higher education some embassies/consulates may also request a criminal record certificate if your study in Portugal lasts longer than 90 days, you will need to show:

Tuition Fees:

Average costs of studying at a and Private University in Portugal are; depending on the types of program and years: • Bachelor's and Master’s: 3000 EUR – 7,000 EUR per year • PhDs: 2,500 – 4, 000 EUR per year Students enrolled in a part-time program at a public university in Portugal should expect to pay about 70% of the fees a full-time student would pay, and exchange students may be exempt from paying tuition fees depending on the agreement made with their home university.

Scholarship and grants for study: There are several government-funded grants and scholarships available to both EU and non-EU students wanting to study at a university in Portugal. To be eligible for one of these, you must be enrolled at a university that is recognized by the Portuguese Ministry of Education. Scholarships and grants are usually offered to Master’s students, however, this is not exclusively the case – financial support for Bachelor’s degrees are available, as well as internships from foundations and research institutions.

Work Permit:

Working in Portugal while you’re a student

Non-EU students on Portuguese student visa and residence permits are allowed to work in Portugal subject to authorization from the SEF. You can also request permission to undertake research work, academic teaching or engage in highly qualified activities provided you have the necessary skills and qualifications. There are also permits available for unpaid trainees and volunteers. If you want to volunteer or undertake an unpaid internship or training position, your employer will need to contact the SEF to inquire about getting the necessary permit. EU students can work in Portugal without requiring a work permit.

Working in Portugal after completing your study

Non-EU nationals who want to stay on after their Portuguese student visa expires will need to have an offer of suitable employment to extend their residence. Their permit will need to be changed to a residence permit for employed workers, research workers and highly qualified professionals, or self-employed workers. You can also apply for the EU Blue Card which is available for highly qualified workers from non-EU/EFTA countries if they wish to work in the EU.

The student has a wide range of opportunities after completing their studies. They have the option to go back or stay back if they want to work in and acquire the resident card. A residence permit, if they plan to work in Portugal for long-term. The type of residence permit you need will depend on the basis of your employment. There is an also option of blue card and golden visa, in case if you wish to avail as per the norms and suitability.
