NOTES ON CONTRIBUTORS Fida Afiouni is an Associate Professor of Human Resource Management at the Olayan School of Business, American University of Beirut, Lebanon. Her research and teaching focus on the interplay of HRM, careers, and gender in the Arab Middle East. She has presented her work in leading academic and professional conferences such as the Academy of Management in North America, the International Human Resource Management conference in Europe, the HR summit and Expo in Dubai, the HR Summit in Beirut and her publications have appeared in several academic and professional outlets, the most recent being in Career Development International, the International Journal of Human Resource Management and Women Studies International Forum. She is currently an Associate editor in Business Ethics: A European Review, a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Human Resource Management, an advisory board member of the KIP Project, and ad hoc consultant with the International Labor Organization. Al-Hroub completed his PhD and MPhil in Special Education at the University of Cambridge and his MA (Special Education) and BA (Psychology) from the University of Jordan. He has published in leading international gifted and special education journals, and is the author of Theories and Programs of Education for the Gifted and Talented, and ADHD in Lebanese schools: Diagnosis, Assessment and Treatment. -

Building on sustainability performance in universities, this study aimed to: Identify the procedures deployed by universities to measure sustainability; detect the strengths and weaknesses of the Spanish university system (SUS) sustainability practice; analyse the SUS contributions to sustainability-related Research, Development and Innovation (R&D+I); and assess the efficacy of such practices and procedures as reported in the literature. The indicators of scientific activity were defined by applying scientometric techniques to analyse the journal (Web of Science) and European project (CORDIS) databases, along with reports issued by national institutions. The findings showed that measuring sustainability in the SUS is a very recent endeavour and that one of the strengths is the university community’s engagement with the ideal. -

Call for Papers Amman - Jordan - 24-26 March 2020 5th IEEE Middle East and Africa Conference on Biomedical Engineering http://mecbme2020.yu.edu.jo The 5th IEEE Middle East and Africa Conference on Biomedical Engineering (MECBME 2020) formerly known as Middle East Conference on Biomedical Engineering. MECBME 2020 is an international conference and hosted by IEEE Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Jordan chapter and the IEEE Jordan section, in collaboration with Yarmouk University, Jordan. All papers will be peer reviewed by at least three reviewers based on full paper submission. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, and the presented papers will also be submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library and indexed in SCOPUS. Scope The Middle East and Africa Conference on Biomedical Engineering (MECBME) will provide a forum for professional engineers, scientists and academics engaged in research and development to convene and present their latest scholarly work in biomedical engineering. It will also provide engineers with an opportunity to interact and share their experiences in industry and technology applications. The conference will run for three days and will be accompanied by diverse tutorial sessions presented by leading experts in biomedical engineering. Read Full License Page 1/24 Abstract Introduction: The huge workload on doctors especially residents, who are the main healthcare providers in public hospitals, in addition to the vanishing incomes and lack of personal safety during the decade-long Syrian crisis, led to further hurdles for the focus on research. Postgraduate students in the medical and paramedical elds must conduct original research projects as part of their graduation requirements. However, that does not reect on the research publications coming from Syria. Methods: A nation-wide cross-sectional study targeting medical, dental, and pharmacy postgraduate students who are at the phase of planning for their required projects. The questionnaire aimed to capture their attitudes towards research, perceived barriers, and previous research experiences. Results: The sample consisted of 429 residents representing about 21.5% of the target population. Nearly all the participants had positive opinion towards the important role of medical research and the signicance of their participation. Agreement was also clear regarding perceived barriers including the lack of adequate training, and research facility. -
