8th Grade eLearning Guide- Week 5 E NGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS

In this lesson, you will demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

Objectives ● I can identify capitalization and punctuation rules. ● I can use punctuation (comma, ellipsis, dash) to indicate a pause or break. ● I can use an ellipsis to indicate an omission.

For Parents ● After looking through the rules for capitalization and punctuation (using a comma, ellipsis (...), and a dash), it might be a good time to have your student write a letter(s) to older family and neighbors or even to other family members within the house. This exercise will use all the skills covered this week.

Note - Answers for worksheets can be written on one page or saved in one document. All digital resources are listed in order in the Lesson Resources folder.

For Students ● Monday: Capitalization worksheet ○ Use the “How to...” doc. to review (See Resource Folder). ● Tuesday: worksheet 1 ○ Use the “How to...” doc. to review Commas 1-4 (See Resource Folder). ● Wednesday & Thursday: Lesson 10 worksheet ○ Use the “How to...” doc for Commas 5-6, , and Ellipsis and info at the top of the worksheet to review (See Resource Folder). ● Friday: For an Extension activity, write a friendly letter to an older neighbor or family member or even to someone else in your home, using the punctuation we have covered this week.
