Lodan Raya No. 2 Ancol, Jakarta Utara 14430, Indonesia Diterima: 15 Febuari 2018/Disetujui: 21 Maret 2018 ABSTRACT Preserving cultural heritage is a cultural fortress attempt against the negative external cultural influences that are so rapidly coming as a result of the current global communications flows that are engulfing the world. One form of material cultural heritage is the various "Minangkabau Traditional Decorative Variety" in Rumah Gadang in West Sumatra whose motifs reflect the noble values of the nation. One of the historical heritage buildings of Indonesia that uses Minangkabau traditional carving is Baso Pagaruyung Palace in Batusangkar, West Sumatra. With the process of making expensive carvings into one of the factors causing this culture has started many abandoned. So it needs to be made a study that discusses the variety of ornamental Minangkabau carving into a written scientific work in order to be known by the public to understand the meaning, structure and philosophy. Using descriptive qualitative research method with interactive analysis, consist of three component of analysis that is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results of the study explain the structure of the compensation and symbolic meaning of each pattern of carving motifs used in the five sections within the Baso Pagaruyung Palace ie the roundabout, the door, the ventilation, the ceiling, and the palace foot. -

The results revealed that the most photos of colonial look landscape style were consist of buildings and hardscapes as focused objects, where Presidential Palace and Lady Raffles monument were buildings that mostly appear in photos. The photos’ captured locations were also concentrated to those buildings indicated that landscape surround those buildings had strong characteristics of colonial landscape style. The study also showed the effectiveness of inviting participants with educational background in landscape architecture than normal visitors to show perception of colonial look landscape on BBG site. -
Bab I Pendahuluan
BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Masalah Saat ini interior ruang merupakan suatu yang terpenting dalam menunjangnya sebuah bangunan ataupun hunian. Karena sebagai individu , kita membutuhkan tempat berlindung yang nyaman. Bangunan ataupun hunian terdiri dari bangunan pribadi yang berfungsi sebagai rumah, dan bangunan publik yang berfungsi sebagai tempat usaha. Dengan perkembangan zaman , desain interior tidak hanya diperuntukan bagi sebuah hunian, tetapi juga untuk ruang publik seperti restoran, toko, perkantoran, rumah sakit , hingga gedung-gedung pemerintahan. Desain interior mempunyai peranan penting agar tercipta susunan ruang yang baik sesuai dengan fungsi , kebutuhan serta kenyaman tanpa meninggalkan segi estetikanya. 1 Dalam hal ini sebuah gedung pemerintahan pun harus di desain dengan memiliki kenyamanan dan fungsi yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan serta memiliki sistem keamanan yang baik . Salah satunya adalah sebuah Istana Kepresidenan yang memiliki peranan penting dalam sebuah pemerintahan dan menjadi sebuah simbol kenegaraan. Di Indonesia telah memliki 6 Istana Negara yang tersebar di beberapa kota,seperti Bogor,Cipanas, Yogyakarta, Bali dan dua diantaranya terdapat di Jakarta,yaitu Istana Merdeka dan Istana Negara dan digunakan sehari-hari oleh Presiden Republik Indonesia. Sedang keempat lainnya difungsikan sebagai tempat peristirahatan ketika Presiden mengunjungi daerah tersebut. Bandung merupakan salah satu kota di Jawa Barat, yang memiliki nilai sejarah bagi bangsa Indonesia. Di sinilah Konfrensi Asia-Afrika diadakan, sehingga banyak sekali tamu Negara yang datang, serta Presiden Republik Indonesia. Dengan kedaan daerah yang baik, serta iklim yang sejuk , maka akan sangat bangga bagi warga Bandung, jika dibangun sebuah Istana Kepresidenan yang berfungsi sebagai tempat peristirahatan dan tempat penerimaan tamu kenegaraan. Sebuah Istana Kepresidenan harus dapat menjadi simbol Negara dan menjadi kebanggan daerah. -

Staf Pengajar Jurusan Arsitektur Universitas Katolik Parahyangan Abstract Iconic building is term for building which functions as a representation of place where it is located and/or time when it was built. There are many buildings in Indonesia which are considered as an icon for its city, one of which is Maimoon Palace for Medan city. Maimoon Palace is seen as one of the icons that represents Medan city. This research is done in order to find the characteristic of Maimoon Palace that meets the criteria of iconic architecture in Medan city. The theories used in this research are the theories which spell out the criteria of iconic architecture. Those criteria include part of society’s memories, strategic location, contrast image among surrounding environment, and symbolic form. Part of society’s memories indicator includes historical event and society’s perception. Strategic location’s indicator includes position in the city and direction of building. Contrast image among surrounding environment’s indicator includes grand structure, unique and attractive form, and innovative technology. Symbolic form’s indicator includes architecture styles. These theories then are used to determine Maimoon Palace’s iconicity. From the observation and the data collection, data found tells Maimoon Palace’s history, its location in Medan city, and architectural data which shows three different architecture styles the palace has, which are Malay style, Moghul style, and Colonial style. These styles indirectly tell the aspects of Maimoon Palace, such as the culture, religion, and history. -

These three major components of traditional Malaysian architecturel have evolved in sequence and have overlapped from the beginning of the fifteenth century. These building traditions ceased with the emergence of a new architectural movement which was brought into the country in the twentieth century after the nation's independence. This new phase was the development of modern architecture and during this period, many buildings in Malaysian cities were built in the International Style, which was popular in many western countries. The continual process of adopting western styles and images has resulted in buildings which disregard the environmental and climatic factors of Malaysia and this has led to the problem of identity in the development of Malaysian architecture. Islamic spirituality dominates in West Sumatera because of the large number of Muslims there. Even this has influenced the daily life of the Minangkabau people. Its strong effect is also a concern, including by designers and architects. This research aims to explore the spiritual meaning that influences the architectural building of the Big House of Pagaruyung Palace. The Big House of Pagaruyung Palace was the residence of the family of the Kingdom of Pagaruyung in the 17th century and is known as the beginning of the spread of Islam in West Sumatera. The present of Basa Pagaruyung Palace is a replica building. Nevertheless, the Basa Pagaruyung Palace was still built by maintaining its original form. The method used is descriptive qualitative with cultural approach. In the end, the purpose of this research is to reveal the facts, meanings, phenomena and circumstances that are happening. The results of the study note that there are four architectural elements of the Big House of Pagaruyung Palace that have spiritual meaning. It can be concluded that the architectural building of the Big House of Pagaruyung Palace was built with the thought to connect existing architectural elements with nature. -

This study also look at the constraints faced by local governments in the development of tourism.
