RESULTS JUNIOR SOMERSET CUP 2006/2007 The Rec hosts Somerset Junior Cup Finals
The Rec at Bath was a fitting venue for the junior finals held over the weekend of 21st and 22nd April (all results can be found below). First up the Saturday was the U14s final between Taunton and local Bath side, Walcot. After a very close first half Taunton led 5-0 at half-time, the final result was 33 - 7. The U19s final between Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater & Albion saw a dramatic first half with Bridgwater taking the lead with a try, this spurred Weston into action with 32 unanswered points, there was no scoring in the second half and Weston can now look forward to playing Bury St Edmunds in the National Plate final to add to their Somerset Cup win.
Sunday saw probably 2 of the best games of the weekend. Firstly Weston Hornets took on Bath at u15s level. Both sides went out to play attacking rugby, running the ball at every opportunity. At half-time Hornets led 17-12, but Bath hit back to hold a lead of 7 points going into the final minutes. Hornets threw everything at the Bath line, but stout defence enabled Bath to hold out to win 29-22. The U16s encounter between Avon (Bristol Combination Cup winners) and Weston-super-Mare (Bristol Combination Cup winners) was a bruising encounter where neither set of forwards were willing to allow their opponents the upper hand. So with the scores level at half time, the next score would be crucial and so it proved with Weston securing the winning try in the dying second to secure a 12-5 victory. The final game saw Winscombe and Avonvale contest the 17s Somerset Cup, in which Avonvale ran out 42-10 winners.
9 clubs contested the 5 finals which shows the strength in depth of Somerset Junior rugby.
