KEYNSHAM TOWN FC

Good evening all ,

This evening we extend a warm welcome to the players, club officials and supporters from Bradford Town. Always a tough side to do battle with and tonight will be no exception. We also welcome our match officials to Crown Fields, referee Adam Wilson and his 2 assistants, Valentin Pomfret & Luke Hulbert.

It seems a long time ago that I last put pen to paper in preparation for our game with Heath. Since recording a great result on that occasion we have been on the road to Buckland, where we narrowly lost in a game in which we probably should have come away with something. Another long trip to Bodmin in the FA Vase and back to league action away at Hallen a week ago today which ended in a draw. The Bodmin game was a thriller! At two down after 35 minutes or so it was looking like it was going to be an uphill struggle, but somehow Nathan managed to steer one in just before half time with his unfavoured right foot and goals in the second half from Browner and Jack gave us a memorable win . I thought that the football we played in the first half at home to Cadbury and in the second half at Bodmin was outstanding and if we can reproduce that with more consistency we are going to cause teams a few headaches.

It is great to see crowds flooding back to our level of football. At we are learning as every game passes and making adjustments to ensure that your visit to the AJN Stadium is as safe and enjoyable as possible. In anticipation of another bumper attendance this evening, can I ask you to play your part and spread yourselves out to all areas of the stadium to ensure that appropriate distancing is maintained? Thank you for your cooperation.

Enjoy the game.

Ade Cole

Club Chairman KEYNSHAM TOWN F.C. Managerial Mutterings

Good Evening

Tonight we go into the game on a run of 3 games unbeaten and full of confidence.

Tuesday night saw Us draw 2-2 away at Hallen; it took an 91st min equaliser from them to stop us making it 3 wins on the bounce... A point away from home in this league is a good one but the manner in which we got it left a bitter taste.

The small margins in a game are often the difference. We should have been more ruthless at 2-1 up as we created chances to put the game to bed, but on the other hand should have managed the final minutes better to secure the 3 points ...

The lads are learning with every game, what’s been pleasing is our performance levels - every player is giving their all for 90 + minutes and it’s been very much a team effort in recent weeks. I’m glad the lads looked and felt so disappointed after the Hallen game, a draw away to them last would have been a success, but this season our standards have risen and we now are looking to beat sides away from home in this league...

Having a break Saturday was perfect for us, we had a few carrying knocks who now should be fresh for tonight’s game.

With no new injuries to report It was great to see Mike ‘ Gristy ‘ get 90 minutes in the reserves with no reaction from his numerous niggly injuries. He is now looking to regain his match fitness and return to the first team fold.

We will give it everything to get 3 points tonight and revoke memories of last years 3-1 home win over then league leaders and tonight’s opponents Bradford.

We hope you enjoy the game, many thanks for your support

John Allen Keynsham Town Football Club is over 120 years old, having been formed in 1896. In the early days it played at the “Hams” and then moved to “Gaston” in 1910. 1n 1925 the club played in Park Road and then moved again in 1930 to a pitch on Charlton Road. All these grounds have now been built on and there is no evidence of them.

In 1939 the club was disbanded for the duration of the Second World War and was reformed in 1945 when the club found its new home at Crown Fields, where it has played ever since. It was due to the foresight of Roy Neal and Ken Dowling and the Committee at that time that the ground is left in trust to ensure that football can be played for the generations to come. The main clubhouse was built in the 1970’s with new dressing rooms added in 1984 and floodlights in 1989. In recent years the clubhouse has been upgraded and most recently the seats have been replaced, incidentally from the old Williams Stand at Ashton Gate, home of City Football Club.

The club first played in the Bristol & District League and progressed to the Bristol Premier Combination. The club then moved into the County League and into the Western League in 1974. The club then found themselves in the first division of the Western League when that league was formed in season 1975/6 but returned to the Premiership in 1978/9 when Town finished as champions and then spent 5 years at the higher level only to find themselves in Division 1 for the start of season 1983/4. The Town then had a barren spell and it did not return to the top flight until 1997, finishing runners up to Melksham Town but the yoyo affect kicked in again two later when the Town again returned to Division 1 only to return again in 2000 finishing runners up to Team Bath. After brief flirtations with the Premier Division in the mid-2000s, the Ks have been in Division 1 for several seasons now.

Fortunes took a turn for the better when Chris King and Sean Day took over management duties in September 2014. Their first full season in charge, assisted by coach Russell Holt, saw the club finish within 10 points of the Division 1 winners. Then 2016-17 saw Keynsham’s best season for 15 years as we narrowly missed out on promotion, despite amassing 81 points.

Chris and Sean both decided to step down from their roles in May 2017, but the club were fortunate enough to procure the services of John Allen from Wells City. John was a key figure in Wells’ promotion and Cup double in 2015-16. Russ Holt stayed on and became John’s Assistant Manager.

After agonisingly amassing an excellent 89 points but only finishing third in 2017-18, the club cemented all the hard work both on and off the pitch by storming to the Division One championship in 2018-19. A run of 24 wins from the last 26 games saw the Ks accrue 93 points and comfortably win the title by 9 points. This season sees the Ks back in the Premier Division for the fist time since the 2006-07 season.

Away from the first team the Town were developing their football club with the introduction of a reserve side in 1987,who also won promotion to the Premier Division of the Somerset County League last season. The most noticeable achievement was the winning of the in 2003, the first time in 45 years, beating Westlands at ’s Hand Stadium.

In 1988 an Under 18 Youth team was formed, competing in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League. In 2006/7 they were promoted to the First Division of this league and to complete the circle an “A” team was formed in 1993 to compete in the Bath & District League; they are now in the Bristol & Suburban League. Both these sides were formed to support the growing number of players from within the Club’s successful youth section and to provide that important step between junior and adult football.

The Town’s junior section has several sides playing competitive football on a regular basis. The club sees the progress of its junior club as the keystone to the club’s future development and playing success of the senior club with the sights set firmly on the local community for its inspiration and future success. With all the teams within the Town family, including the Ladies’ teams covered later in the programme, we have over 25 teams playing regularly for the Club. With a club of such size and diversity, it is an honour to be designated as a Community Development Club, the highest level of the FA’s Charter Standard initiative, something the club treasures and has set its stall out to operate under the ethos of the Charter.

Keynsham Town FC – Player Profiles 2020/21

Goalkeeper Ashley Clark – Ash joined the Ks 2 years ago and brings a wealth of experience between the sticks. He has been a member of Western League Premier Division winning sides at both and Bristol Manor Farm and securing his signature was a real coup for the club.

Defenders Tauren Williams – Tauren signed for the 2016/17 season, joining us after 3 years at Almondsbury. He began his youth career with Bristol Academy FC whilst at college, playing in central midfield and at right back. Tauren has become a vital member of the First Team squad. Nathan Curnock – joined the Ks for the 2015/16 season and made the left-back slot his own after previously playing as a left winger. Pacy and adds useful height to our defence at set pieces, although doesn’t usually net until Christmas has been and gone. Was unfortunate to miss all of the curtailed 2019-20 season with a serious hip injury, but is fully fit and raring to go now. Mike Grist – Gristy is another ex-Wells city player who has played under John for many years; a no- nonsense centre half, he joined the Ks 2 years ago from Bristol Telephones, making his debut at Town. Also chips in with some vital goals and forms part of the famed “Mitchell Brothers” centre-half duo when paired with Scott Saunders!. Jordan Anstey – has been at the club since his junior days, and has matured into a confident centre half. Can also cover at left back or midfield and his versatility has been vital for the Ks. Danny Lock – joined the Ks last season from our neighbours Hengrove Athletic, and slotted easily into the team at left-back. Had one or two injury problems before the season was cancelled, but will be vying with Nathan Curnock for the left-back spot this season. Jack Dancey – a new signing this summer from Southern League Larkhall Athletic, Jack is comfortable anywhere in defence or midfield. He actually started out as a Ks junior before moving away to college at 16, and also has Northern League experience with Consett and Whitley Bay from his time at Durham . George Rooke – a local lad (lives within sight of Crown Fields) who, after 2 years with Bath City’s Academy, broke into the First Team squad last season after some impressive performances for our successful Reserve side. Sam Kipling – another lad who has forced his way into the First Team picture from our Reserves, Kips captained our successful Somerset Floodlit Youth League Under 18s a few years ago. Can cover a variety of positions in defence or central midfield.

Midfielders Harley Purnell – it was a major coup when Harley decided to join the Ks back in January 2018 after 4 very successful years with Bristol Manor Farm with whom he gained promotion to the Southern League. He has an excellent football brain and is a born leader, taking the captain’s armband since his arrival. Scott Saunders – A centre half or central midfielder who signed from Toolstation Premier side Wells City 2 years ago, Sauce possesses a range of passing and is excellent in the air. He can also play at full back, and his experience of gaining promotion from Division 1 four seasons ago with Wells City was invaluable for the Ks when we won the Division One title 2 years ago. Previous clubs include , Backwell and Cutters Friday. Jordan Metters – it was a real coup when John finally persuaded Jordan to join the Ks from Southern League Bristol Manor Farm this summer. His experience and attacking style will add quality to our team. He won the Western Premier League title with both Bishop Sutton in 2012-13 and Manor Farm in 2016-17, and also was named the Bristol Evening Post Footballer of the Year in 2018. Adey Harvey – joined the Ks from Ashton & Backwell United in February 2017. Good on the ball and tough in the tackle, Adey is also a threat from set pieces. He adds steel to our midfield, but also regularly deputises ae centre-half. Matt Long – An attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, who also can play as a forward. “Marty” joined us from Somerset Premier League side Utd where he played a key role as part of their successful title and cup winning team, which dominated the County League for many seasons. No other previous clubs, just a Nailsea United legend! Cam Ricketts – has a wealth of Southern and Western League experience and joined the Ks last season; however some impressive performances were blighted by a recurring hamstring injury. Cam has hopefully put that behind him now and will be looking to become a regular this season. Tom Johnson – has rejoined the Ks after 3 years away at university. Tom was another member of our successful Somerset Floodlit Under 18s from a few years ago, and will provide a physical presence for us in central midfield. Luke Banfield – Luke cut his teeth in the Ks Somerset Floodlit Youth League Under 18 side, and as a regular for our Reserves last season. An attacking left-sided player who has bags of potential.

Forwards Matt Brown – Matt was a player we sought for several years before he joined us 4 years ago, after 3 superb years at Fry Club yielded around 100 Somerset County League goals. Before Frys he had spells at Mangotsfield, Bitton and Oldland. Browner notched 29 times in his first season with the Ks, and bettered that the following season with an impressive tally of 31 goals. Craig Wilson - A centre forward signed from Radstock Town who has lots of experience playing at this level and higher. When in full flow, Craig is hard to stop, being a powerful runner, strong in possession with a powerful shot. Previous clubs include Mangotsfield, Bitton, Odd Down, Oldland and Longwell Green. Jamie Noble – returned from university 2 years ago to become a regular in our promotion-winning Reserve side, before forcing his way into the First Team picture last season. Jamie is yet another lad who has progressed from our Somerset Floodlit Under 18s set up. Aaron Childs - another lad who forced his way into the First Team squad from our Reserves last season, Childsy has again progressed through the Keynsham ranks from the Under 18s a few years ago to where he is now. Manager John Allen - Joined 3 years ago from Toolstation Premier side Wells City, where he was part of a successful management team alongside Mark Read. In their first season they guided Wells city to promotion in 2015-16, only missing out on the title on goal difference on the last day of the season, and in an amazing season winning the Somerset Premier Cup against all the odds beating the likes of , , Weston Super Mare and Larkhall. Prior to Wells, he managed Cutters Friday 1st team In the Somerset Premier and prior to that the Reserves in a spell which spanned 8 seasons, getting to both the Somerset Junior and Senior Cup Finals respectfully and gaining promotion with the Reserves.

Assistant Manager Russell Holt – 2015/16 was Russ’s first season directly involved with the club as both First Team Coach and joint Under 18s Manager. Russ became John’s assistant when John joined us and has loads of experience in both adult & youth football in the Bristol area – the beard to be feared! Coaches Jamie Price –a tough-tackling player who joined the Ks in November 2016 from Wells City. Jamie has now decided to concentrate on his coaching and provided excellent support to John & Russ over the past 2 seasons. Josh – once his legs finally gave up on him, Brutes has managed our promotion-winning Reserve side for the last 3 seasons with Brian Sealy. He has been at the club since he was a nipper and has now stepped up to a coaching role with the First Team. Physio Rich Williams – Rich is a Keynsham Town legend who has been at the club for donkey’s years! He happily acts as physio to our Under 18s as well as the First Team. Club Man par excellence! Premier Division Early league leaders Plymouth Parkway are now the only side without a loss to their name after beating previous unbeatens Brislington 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Having been slow to start over the past couple of weeks, Parkway made amends in Bristol, going ahead in the early stages through Billy Palfrey. A second goal on the half hour from Callum Hall handed them control at the break, with leading scorer Ryan Richards then putting the result beyond doubt 18 minutes from time. There was still time for Matt Wright to add a late fourth for the Devon side who extended their run of clean sheets to five matches. It was a strong day all round for the county of Devon, with Exmouth Town securing a 3-1 win away at . After an own goal had put the visitors in front after 15 minutes, Exmouth doubled their advantage a couple of moments later thanks to a strong finish from Jordan Harris. Bridgwater made the perfect start to the second half, pulling a goal back through Sam Towler, but it was Exmouth who struck the crucial fourth goal, with Aaron Denny smashing home just before the hour mark. There was also a big win for Tavistock, for whom Liam Prynn scored a first half hat- trick during their 5-2 win over Hallen. The Lambs flew out of the blocks and were two goals to the good inside the opening ten minutes thanks to usual contributors Jack Crago and Josh Grant. A response came from the away side through Jordan Whittaker, before Prynn took over the contest, scoring a 20-minute treble to hand Tavistock a 5-1 half-time lead. Sacha Tong got a late consolation for the away side but the result was never in doubt as Tavistock earned their first victory since September 5th. Buckland couldn't make it four out of four for the county, with a resolute Chipping Sodbury Town holding out for a goalless draw at Homers Heath to earn their first point of the season. came out on top in a seven- goal thriller at home to Bitton to earn their first league victory this term. There was only one goal in a relatively quiet opening half, with Joe Morgan finishing off a counterattack to put Shepton in front. There were signs of things to come in the opening passages of the second half, with Morgan doubling Shepton's advantage, before Aysa Corrick responded for Bitton following an excellent run and cross from Callum Ball. The floodgates were now well and truly open, and after Matt Morris had restored the home side's two-goal lead, Bitton went straight down the other end and responded once again with Ryan Bath firing home. The 205 fans in attendance were treated to an epic second half, and the regular sequence of scoring continued with Liam Bishop tapping home for Bitton to pull his side to within a goal once more after Tyson Pollard had struck the home side's fourth. There was still plenty of time for Bitton to draw level, but they couldn't quite find a fourth of their own, meaning Shepton ran out 4-3 victors on the occasion of James Billing's 250th appearance for the club. Street are now up into second spot, after second half efforts from Kyle Strange and Leighton Thomas helped them beat Wellington by two goals to nil. There was also a big home win for Odd Down, with the Bath-side moving into the top half following their 4-1 triumph over Bridport. A strike towards the end of the first half from Tom Burgess edged the hosts in front, before Will Hunter and Joe Jarvis each scored soon after the interval to put them three goals to the good. An own goal gave Bridport a glimmer of hope, but Odd Down wouldn't be denied and second half substitute Dylan Hatt scored a fourth in stoppage time. The points were shared at Road between Bradford and Clevedon, with the visitors clinging on to a draw in stoppage time thanks to an excellent point-blank save from Harley Wilkinson. In a topsyturvy encounter, Ethan Feltham slipped the ball home after just seven minutes, before Bradford levelled when Aaron Witchell scored for the second game in succession. A Ross Lye cross was turned home by Jake Brown to complete the turnaround, but Clevedon's Archie Ferris pounced on a loose ball in the box to make it 2-2 in the 62nd minute. Both teams had a couple of chances to steal the points, and the best fell to Morgan Marsh in the 95th minute, but Wilkinson did enough to keep him at bay. Westbury United clung on to a 2-1 win over Cribbs, with Jack Biddiscombe's first half double giving the Wiltshire outfit all three points despite the visitors best efforts which saw Steve Murray trim the deficit before the break. Roman Glass St George extended their winning run to four matches with a late 1-0 victory at home to Cadbury Heath. The Glass looked like they would be made to pay for Ryan Radford's failed penalty attempt in the 59th minute, but with time winding down, star forward Ben Bament added to his ever-increasing early season goal tally to score the vital winner five minutes from time.

First Division Ashton & Backwell United secured their third away win on the bounce, capitalising on a fast start to beat Sherborne Town 3-1 at Raleigh Grove. A pair of goals inside the opening ten minutes from Ben Jones and Jordan Scadding put the Stags in command, before Alex Murphy halved the deficit. A third and final goal midway through the second half from Calum Townsend wrapped up the win for Ashton & Backwell who now enjoy a five-point lead atop the division. Second spot still belongs to Lebeq United despite their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Town. Two late goals from the visitors made the scoreline a little less one-sided, with Wincanton dominating for large swathes of the match, and Dan Wise proving to be too hot to handle, scoring a match-winning hat-trick. The result of the day definitely belongs to Corsham Town who stormed to a 7-2 triumph away at Radstock. The home side just weren't at the races, and trailed by three goals before finally getting on the scoresheet after 31 minutes through Scott Gregory. For Corsham, Jamal Chevolleau bagged a hat-trick, with Leigh Rogers also striking twice for the rampant visitors. A second half effort from James Rustell stemmed the flow slightly, but Corsham didn't slow down, and ran out big winners with James Vincent and Gary Higdon also finding the back of the net for the Wiltshire side. Just like Corsham, there are a couple of other sides who have won both of their league fixtures so far, including Wells City. Their second victory came at home to Hengrove on Saturday afternoon, goals in either half from Tom Hill helping them win by two goals to nil. Bishop Sutton are the other side with six points from six after a late penalty saw them win 2-1 away at . Sutton were one goal ahead at the interval thanks to Oaklan Buck's opener, before Warminster Action from Westbury's Premier Division clash with Cribbs, courtesy of Martin Pearce. levelled early in the second half thanks to Francois Allen. It was the visitors who claimed the third and final goal from the spot, with Callum Baker keeping his cool to finish with aplomb from 12 yards. Calne Town are doing even better than those sides on six points, with the Lilywhites now having tasted victory in all three of their league contests so far this term. An own goal midway through the first half put them ahead of Longwell Green, before Matty Jenkins wrapped up the victory when he scored three minutes from time. Welton also have nine points from a possible nine, after substitute Kyle Box made an instant impact to lead them to a 1-0 win away at Bishops Lydeard. After entering the field during the second half, Box took over set piece duties, and curled home an excellent free kick from 25 yards out with one of his first touches to clinch the hard- fought win. Cheddar were 3-0 winners away at Devizes, with Adam Wright scoring twice, before Callum Ham struck in the closing stages to round out the victory. Almondsbury followed up their midweek win with another three points at home to Bristol Telephones, with Stuart Alexander, Ashley Knight and Matt Davies all scoring during their first half to hand them a relatively simple 3-0 triumph.

The Early Years Bradford Town F.C. was founded in 1992 by Les and Pat Stevens, joining Division Two of the Wiltshire League. Home matches were initially played at St Laurence School in Bradford where the pitch was roped off before each game, dugouts were carried to the pitch and the half time tea was made in the boot of a car. Following a short spell at Trowbridge Town's old Frome Road ground the club came home to Bradford on in 1996 moving into Trowbridge Road. The ground was established in 1912 as the home of rubber works team Spencer Moulton FC and latterly Avon Bradford FC before they folded in the early 1990s, enabling Town to become custodians. Western League status achieved Bradford achieved promotion to the Western League in the 2005-06 season under the leadership of Mark Hodkinson after finishing runners up in the Wiltshire League Premier Division. Former founding players Paul Shanley and his assistant Mark Edwards took over at the helm in 2008-09 season which saw a third place league finish and floodlights being installed at the ground. The following season saw the installation of a 100-seat main stand, a 4th place league finish and a creditable 2nd Round appearance in the FA Vase. Town then posted successive 6th, 5th and 4th place league finishes before embarking on a year to remember in 2013-14 when they won the Division One title by 13 points. Progress in the Premier The team's first season in the Premier Division concluded with a respectable 8th place finish but it was their exploits in the FA Vase which proved to be the highlight of the campaign. A gate of 621 at Trowbridge Road witnessed a 3-1 victory over Melksham Town in the 4th Round, their sixth scalp of the campaign, before bowing out at home to Highworth Town in the next round. Another 8th place finish was recorded the following year whilst after three victories in the FA Cup the team were edged out 3-2 by Chippenham Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round. After eight years in charge, the 2016-17 season began with Paul Shanley stepping down, being replaced by ex- Forest Green and Mangotsfield United stalwart Danny Greaves, assisted by former fans favourite Aaron Wilson. After 25 tireless years as Chairman, this year also saw Les Stevens hand over the reins to Mark Hodkinson with Jon Phillips as deputy, both of whom have long standing connections with the club. An impressive 5th place finish, was bettered in 2017-18 by 4th place after the side just came up short of promotion. This thrilling campaign also saw the club reach the FA Vase 5th Round again. The long trip to Redcar in the next round however proved a bridge too far as Town went down 2-0 to eventual Northern League champions Marske United on a weekend that will live long in the memory of the 100-plus travelling supporters. A New Era After two excellent seasons Danny Greaves left Bradford for Frome Town in the close season. Following Rob Mallet's short reign in the hot-seat in October 2018, former Larkhall Athletic and Mangotsfield United boss Wayne Thorne was appointed manager along with his assistant Pete Maddison. The pair guided Town to a solid 7th place finish. 2019-20 saw a third FA Vase 5th Round appearance but were again eliminated, this time by Leighton Town in front of nearly 500 at Trowbridge Road. The season also saw Mark Hodkinson step down as Chairman with long-term deputy Jon Phillips taking over at the helm. In the league, the team were third in March with the best points per game ratio before the coronavirus struck resulting in the abandonment of the league. The management pair subsequently decided to move on and we now hope their success will be built on by last season's team captain Lee Davidson who has been appointed as manger with Jamie Lyons as his assistant.
