The small village of Allithwaite is located 1.2 miles (1.9 km) west of Grange- over-Sands in southern Cumbria. Situated to the north of Allithwaite the site comprises a series of garages within an estate of bungalows. To the south of the site along Boarbank Lane and Green Lane there is a mix of semi- detached and terraced houses.

The proposals utilise a single, simple planform bungalow which is mirrored to form a semi-detached dwelling.

The planform was developed as part of a set of dwellings that are suitable in size and style for the local vernacular, as well as following simple construction methods with the intention of allowing apprentice tradesmen to gain invaluable relevant experience in their trades.

The proposed fenestration and openings reflect the scale of the local vernacular, the properties are finished in render in reference to local character.
