This is a “Travel like the locals” tour. The tours use public transport, i.e. regular buses, ferries and boats, but we have done the planning for you so that you can concentrate on enjoying your trip. You travel on your own - there is no guide or tour leader. On most of our tours you must change several times between different buses/ferries/boats, and it is up to you to make sure you catch your connections – truly travelling like a local! (The tours are set up so that the buses, ferries and boats connect.)

Round trip from Skei to Movika and Førde Skei – Movika – Førde – Skei

Skei is a beautiful village located at the northeastern end of the Jølstravatnet lake, just west of the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The area was shaped by glaciers and water in constant movement. The trip starts by the Cirkle K station in the center of Skei.

“Explore ” are situated by the lake in the centre of Skei, and offer boat, kayak, bikes and SUP boards for rent. This is also the starting point for daily guided glaciers tours to the Haugabreen Glacier in Stardalen, Jølster, offered by “Bre og ”.

The home of the famous painter Nikolai Astrup (1880 – 1928), Astruptunet, is located on the south side of the Jøstravatnet. Nikolai Astrup found inspiration and scenes for his superb works in the surrounding nature. The water that cuts through the landscape, the changing seasons and the varied light was a constant source of inspiration for Astrup. The nature in the area often has the same effect on visitors.

The bus ride along the Jølstravatnet lake is an awe inspiring experience. You can see how the colours are reflected in the water, and it is easy to see where Astrup got his inspiration.

After a 50 minute bus ride, you reach Movika, the location of Sunnfjord Museum. Sunnfjord Museum offers guided tours, various exhibitions and events, an herbal garden and a museum shop. They also rent out houses and space for meetings and celebrations. The museum is located by the Movatnet lake just east of Førde town center. It is open all year, but the majoritiy of the activities offered at the open air museum takes place during the summer period.

10 minutes by bus from Movika you find Førde. Førde is a small town with cafes, restaurants, hotels and good shopping.

You can also visit og Fjordane Kunstmuseum (museum of modern art). The building the that museum is located in has been awarded an international prize for its distinctive architecture (architect: C. F. Møller). The building symbolizes an ice block that has slipped down from the surrounding mountains. The museum displays permanent exhibitions with works from their own collection, as well as temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. Guided tours are offered on request. The museum also has a museum shop and a café.

On the bus ride back from Førde to Skei you can lean back in your seat and process your impressions; the magnificent scenery along the Jølstravatnet lake, the exciting cultural experiences in Førde and inspirational Movika with Sunnfjord Museum.
