General Sewing Supply List for Vintage, Classic & Contemporary

The following items will be needed in class:

Sewing Machine and Accessories Pfaff and Suddenly Sewing will be providing machines and embroidery units (the newest top-of-the line ICON), so there is no need to bring your own. If you’d like to bring yours, however, please make sure it is in good working order. Be sure to pack your instruction manual, all feet, embroidery unit, hoops and the accessories that came with your machine. Don’t forget your power cord!

If you are bringing your machine, or own an ICON or another Pfaff sewing and embroidery machine model, please bring the following:

Note: These are optional. If you do not have these feet (for your own machine), we will have some for you to borrow or we may be able to set up a machine in the back of the room with the foot you would like to try.

Pintuck (5, 7 or 9-groove) Open toe 1/4” foot with guide Edge-joining (guide in the center) or Edge-stitching Gathering Mini or Baby Piping Zipper Foot Walking or Dual-Feed Any other favorite feet See page 3 for extra feet specific to the quilt

Thread: 2 large spools each of lightweight thread in white and ecru 1 large spool each of construction thread in white, ecru and black 1 spool Wash-Away thread (if you cannot find this easily, do not worry – we will have some available for classroom use)

Optional: Favorite machine embroidery thread colors. We supply you with our favorite colors for the kits that require rayon embroidery thread, but you may want to use your favorites instead. Lace Shaping Board: We will have a few in the sewing room to borrow or purchase.

*Needles: Twin: 1.6/70, 2.0/80, 2.5/80, 3.0/90 Wing: 100 Universal: 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 1 pkg. each Topstitch: 100, 110 (can be used instead of Universal), 1 pkg. each Embroidery: 75 and 90, 1 pkg. each *Do not worry if you cannot find all of these kinds or sizes. As long as you have an assortment, you will be fine.

Stabilizers: Extra of your favorite embroidery stabilizer(s). We supply a sample pack of stabilizers, but you may wish to do more embroidery during the class than what that will allow you to accomplish.

Scissors: Dressmaker shears, embroidery or trimming scissors, paper cutting scissors.

Measuring tools Tape measure, 6” to 12” Ruler (or one that you use).

Seam Ripper: Not that you will need it!

Extra lighting (optional)

Other Notions Sewline Glue Pen and 2 or 3 refills or Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It Bodkin Set, recommend John James 1/2” and 1” Clover Bias Tape Maker Wash-Away Basting Tape Pipin’ Hot Piping Ruler or DARR Piping Ruler Point Turner Blue wash-out marking pens Thimble Hand sewing needles Seam Guide Safety Pins (two of each size - small, medium and large) Large-eyed tapestry needle or double-eyed needle Fabric Folding Pen

Sweater or Jacket: The sewing room temperature can fluctuate throughout the day, so be prepared to add a sweater or take it off as needed. OPTIONAL Extra Suitcase Alert An empty suitcase for all the kits and supplies from class may be helpful. You can bring your goodies home with you!

However, please check with your airline to determine the cost of having an extra suitcase when returning home. The cost of the extra suitcase may or may not be cheaper than shipping costs, which depends upon where you live and what you purchase. We will have the ability to pack boxes to ship via UPS for a nominal cost and that’s another good option.

Again, don’t worry if you’re missing an item on this list. We will have extras in the sewing room for you to borrow or purchase to take home.

*Sewing machine products can be purchased from our partnering sewing machine dealer. Martha Pullen Company does not sell sewing machine related products such as sewing machine feet. We will, of course, have great notions, laces, extra kits and other goodies for sale!

Even if you are borrowing a machine, if you already own any of the accessory feet listed on the supply list for the machine you requested, please bring them with you. We will have a few extra feet in the sewing room for you to borrow. If you bring your own feet you will never have to wait on a foot to be available.
