11441 HAGUE RD, FISHERS, IN 46038 | (317)842-6778 | www.sldmfishers.org April 25, 2021—The Fourth Sunday of Easter The Roman Missal What is the red book the reads from at Mass? It is the Roman Missal, and it contains the prayers and directions on what to say and how to celebrate the Mass. The entire Mass, except the reading from Sacred Scripture, is in the Roman Missal. This book allows the priest to celebrate the Mass and stay connected with the universal Church. The words in the missal are in red and black ink. The red words tell the priest what to do, and the black words are what the priest says.

Does the priest pick which Eucharistic Prayer to pray during the litur- gy of the Eucharist? Yes, there are four general Eucharistic prayers a priest may choose to pray during the celebration of the Eucharist.

I will provide some insights into the Eucharistic Prayers. Eucharistic Prayer I is ideally suitable for feasts and Sundays. For centuries, Eu- charistic Prayer I was the prayer recited during the liturgy of the Eu- charist. In 1962, John XXIII added St. Joseph to the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I). In 2013, St. Joseph was in- serted into Eucharistic Prayers II, III, and IV.

Listed in the Roman Canon you will hear the names of many saints: Mary, the Mother of God, St. Joseph, her spouse, the Apostles (Peter, Paul, Andrew, James, John, Thomas, James, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Simon, and Jude). In addition, many other saints: Linus (the 2nd Pope after St. Peter), Cletus (an early Pope), Clement (ordained by St. Peter and succeed- ed Cletus as Pope), Sixtus (patron of the Sistine Chapel and Pope), Cornelius (Pope who was martyred), (a Bishop and martyr, 1st saint listed in the prayers, not an Apostle or Pope). Lawrence (1st deacon listed), Chrysogonus (likely a lay- man and catechist who was martyred), John and Paul (brothers who served in the Roman Empire and were martyred), Cos- mas and Damian (brothers who are patrons of doctors, nurses, surgeons, dentists).

The second group of saints mentioned are Apostles (Mattias and Barnabas) and Martyrs. Stephen (the first deacon), Mattias (chosen to replace Judas), Barnabas (celebrated as an Apostle), Ignatius, Marcellinus, Peter (martyrs), Alexander (condemned the Arian heresy), Felicity (1st woman to appear in the prayer after Mary), Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy (martyrs), Agnes (youngest listed), Cecilia (martyr, patron saint of musicians), Anastasia (martyred with her husband).

The beauty of these saints is that we can all identify with them: men, women, ordained, laity, young, married, and we united our prayers with the saints at the heavenly celebration of the Mass.

Eucharistic Prayer II is the shortest and is mostly used at weekday Masses. Eucharistic Prayer III comes from the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I) and is used on Sundays and feasts, and funerals. Eucharist Prayer IV provides a summary of salvation history.

The prayers of the Church are rich in meaning and beauty. We look forward to praying together at the celebration of the Mass with Our Lord and all the saints.

Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort Reconciliation 1673-1716 Tuesdays and Thursdays | 5-5:50pm Saturday | Following the 8am Mass Feast day: April 28 Or by appointment “To Jesus through Mary” Updated Mass Protocols at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church Especially in the last couple of months, we at St. Louis de Montfort have experienced in- creased numbers at many of our weekend Masses. This is a tremendous blessing and a joy to have so many return to Mass, but added numbers brings challenges regarding pan- demic protocols. People hold a wide range of opinions on this topic, and our prayer is that charity, pa- tience, and parish unity in our Catholic faith will prevail. As leaders of the parish, our pri- ority is to provide access to the Sacraments of the Church while providing a context for your health and safety. We want people to pray well and worship God. We also want to care for one another. Our prayer is that COVID numbers will continue to plummet and soon lead to a freedom from any needed protocols. But the virus is still around, and we must take into account the factors of distance, time, and masking in the spread of the disease. Starting this weekend, the following applies to the 5pm Saturday Vigil Mass, the 9am Sun- day Mass, and the 11:30am Sunday Mass: • We will begin using every pew for seating, only requiring three feet of social distanc- ing between families. Masks will still be expected. The 7:30am Sunday Mass and the 5pm Sunday Mass will still be every other pew and masks will still be expected. We all have a responsibility to the community. So that means if you are experiencing COVID-like symptoms, please remain home. As of now, our diocese has not adjusted its music protocols. We are hopeful that congre- gational singing will return soon, but this means for now that singing is still reserved to the cantor and the celebrant of Mass. Please stay tuned to email, the bulletin, website, and social media as protocols may shift as we learn more and as the diocese provides further directives. We are glad that you are here! Please keep praying for parish unity, patience, and charity.

World Day of Prayer for Vocations will be observed on Sunday, April 25, 2021, also known as "Good Shepherd Sunday." The purpose of this day is to publicly fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. Visit our Diocesan Vocations website at dol-in.org/vocations for more vocations resources. Meijer and St. Louis de Montfort “Simply Give” Partners Our Sally Burton Food Pantry and 96th St. Meijer Partner to Provide Hunger Relief Through Meijer’s Simply Give Food Pantry Donation Program

People in our community continue to struggle every day to pay their bills and put food on their tables. Some are even forced to choose between the two, a heartbreaking decision that no one should have to make. We’re pleased to announce that our Sally Burton Food Pantry has joined forces again with the Meijer Simply Give food pantry donation program this spring to help fill that void for our local families.

The SLDM pantry will benefit from donation cards redeemed at the 96th Street Meijer store only - now through July 3, 2021. Please use one of the donation cards located in the Narthex or parish office, which establishes the donor as a parishioner or friend of our food pantry. Over the last 6 years, because of your generosity along with Meijer, we received donations of over $22,000.00 for our pantry, thank you!

Each Simply Give campaign helps food pantries keep their shelves stocked with food for those in need. But it also fosters a sense of community by encouraging customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards which are matched with $10 from Meijer, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to our food pantry. And when we give, Meijer gives.

For every $10 Simply Give donation card purchased on Saturday, June 19, Meijer will double match the contribution meaning they will donate an additional $20. This means our pantry will receive a total of $30 for every $10 a customer donates on that day.

We want to encourage you to help us fulfill our mission of helping feed the hungry by purchasing a food donation card dur- ing your next shopping trip. Tell your friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers because every dollar makes a difference.

St. Louis de Montfort Vision Plan Survey A team of parishioners has joined our pastor in an effort to identify future initiatives for our parish by focusing on certain priorities for the upcoming year. These priori- ties will be determined by YOU, our parishioners, through an up- coming survey. This week every- one will receive a postcard with information about how to access the survey online. If you do not have internet access, paper cop- ies will be available. Please take 10 to 15 minutes to prayerfully read through and answer the questions. Survey results will be anonymous and will be thoughtfully evaluated and taken into consideration as we plan for the exciting future priorities of our parish.
