7 Weeks toward a Deeper Devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist: Week Three: Listening to a Composer’s Heart: a First Look at “One Bread, One Body.”

In our first two weeks, we’ve been reflecting on “Gift of Finest Wheat,” first as a hymn, and then to glean what we can from it as an example of a “lived faith experience.” Hearing more clearly what the Lord Jesus is call- ing us to do is a grace of this time you spend in prayer.

This week, begin by taking a few quiet moments to read through this beautiful hymn! Of course, those who sing can sing it silently or out loud! Whichever way you meditate on it, give it some undivided attention.

One Bread, One Body John Foley, SJ

Refrain: One bread, one body, one Lord of all One cup of blessing which we bless And we, though many, throughout the Earth We are one body in this one Lord

Verse One: Gentile or Jew, Servant or free, Woman or man, No more Refrain

Verse Two: Many the gifts, many the works, One in the Lord, Of all Refrain

Verse Three: Grain for the fields, scattered and grown, gathered to one for all. Refrain

Scriptural Sources: I Corinthians 10:16; 17, 12:4, Galatians 3:28

Then, for this week:  Identify the words or phrases you find are in agreement with how you think and feel about the Eucharist. See if you can focus on one or two words or phrases as being blessings in your life.

 Then, see if you can name the issues that Father John Foley feels are essential, and are connected to a Eucharistic community to keep growing. That is, what helps you in these lyrics to grow in your appreciation for Jesus’ most Sacred Gift?

An Important Message for Our People, from the Diocesan Office of Human Life, Family, and Bioethics

Earlier this year, Francis established the fourth Sunday of July as the annual World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Bishop Barres com- missioned the Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics with leading a Diocesan celebration that honors the important role of grandparents in passing on the faith and that also recognizes the value of all those in our community who are “rich in many years.”

After more than a year of lockdowns and social restrictions which espe- cially affected seniors, the need for such an observance is never more evi- dent or timely! This year, World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on Sunday, July 25, and the theme will be “I am with you always,” to focus on the closeness of God with the aged, and the closeness of intergenerational family ties. In planning for this day, with the uncertainty of the lifting of COVID-related restrictions, we deliberately avoided an emphasis of in-person activities which we hope to incorporate in future years. We wanted to let older, lonely seniors know they are re- membered and to help grandparents convey their Catholic Faith and tradi- tions to their grandchildren.

In particular, we would like to emphasize Blessed Carlo Acutis as a role model for young people to whom grandparents can introduce their grand- children. Blessed Carlo’s passion for Jesus in the Eucharist is underscored by the theme of this year, “I am always with you, and the urgent need to instruct our youth on the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.... Lisa A. Honkanen, M.D

In the Sacrament of His Body & Blood, Jesus is truly present, as a Sacred Meal to nourish us on life’s journey, and as the Noble Sacrifice. In this Sacrament, Jesus teaches us how to become more devoted to God, and more loyal in His service. CH

Did You Hear The News About Saint Mary Magdalene?

When some of us were growing up, we were taught that Mary Magdalene was a disreputable har- lot, who managed to get close to Jesus on at least one occasion. This untruth has been dis- proven multiple times over the years. One of the results of that Biblical and liturgical scholar- ship is that the has raised the liturgical rank of the Memorial of Saint Mary Mag- dalene to a Feast, which is on July 22, this year on a Thursday. The Roman Congregation for Worship and the Sacraments confirmed the English translation, which is printed in its entirety below. Notice that, also unlike our thinking from the past, the Preface on the Mass of her Feast Day is entitled: Apostle to the Apostles. Fr. Chris

Preface for the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene Preface: Apostle to the Apostles

V. The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit. V. Lift up your hearts. R. We lift them up to the Lord. V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, to glorify you in all things, almighty Father, whose mercy is not less than your power, through Christ our Lord.

He appeared in the garden, and revealed himself to Mary Magdalene, who had loved him in life, witnessed him dying on the Cross, sought him as he lay in the tomb, and was the first to adore him, newly risen from the dead. He honored her with the office of being an apostle to the Apostles, so that the good news of new life might reach the ends of the earth.

And so, Lord, with all the Angels and Saints, we, too, give you thanks, as in exultation we acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are filled with your glory: Hosanna in the Highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the Highest.

An Invitation: Become of our ST. LOUIS de MONTFORT PARISH GREETERS

Greeters are usually the first welcoming faces we see when we enter the doors of the church space. As members of the Hospitality Minis- try, our Greeters are a reminder that when we gather for worship, we have come to our “spiritual home away from home.” If you be- lieve you would like to serve in this ministry, ask yourself: Can you put the needs of others before yourself?

Can you let worshippers see and know you truly enjoy greeting them?

As a parishioner, can you stay up-to-date about parish events?

Do you have a positive personality? Do others agree?

Do you naturally make eye contact when you greet people?

Do you extend a hand in friendship and greeting when meeting people?

Do you feel all people are children of God, worthy of respect & honor?

If you answer these questions positively, this ministry may be “the right fit” for you. And if you believe you know someone whose gifts and talents match those listed above, you can ask them about it, and you can also nominate them.

For further information, contact Fr. Chris through our Parish Office at: 631.744.8566.

Prayers must be request by the one serving, or their immediate family. Please call the Parish Office at 631-744-8566.

Please inform the Parish Office when Solider has returned home safely.
