It has been a longtime dream and vision of one of our beloved parishioners, Jeanne Rizzo, to create a Mother Mary garden to honor our Lady and have a beautiful place to pray together. Names with the 10 signatures are to be submitted to the Parish Office either directly or by mail. Nominations will close at 12:00 pm on Friday November 20th. If there are candidates an election will take place at the Vigil and Sunday Masses November 30th. Wisconsin State Statutes which govern the election of Church Trustees allow the Pastor or Administrator of the Parish to select a candidate for this election; Fr. Joseph nominates Ms. JoEllyn Storz. So says St. Paul to the Pillippians and me to you! I hope this letter Linds you doing well and advancing in the grace and power of God. You may have noticed my absence from the parish which will likely continue for several months. Certainly, everyone has experienced the upheaval that the coronavirus pandemic has brought about in all of our lives. My life is no exception. The stress and pressure of both the pandemic and multiple parish renovations adversely affected my temperament and there were occasions when my aggravation got the better of me. Out of concern for my well-being and my ministry, I was presented with the opportunity to participate in a program aimed at helping me deal more effectively with stressful situations, which I gladly accepted. I am as committed as ever to working with you to become even more "the Body of Christ doing the works of Christ." As you know, I love you all, and therefore, I eagerly embraced this opportunity to learn new skills, to seek deeper healing in my life, and to discover better ways of ministering to you and to others. In the meantime, Fr. Joseph Lappe, the Associate Pastor, will serve as temporary administrator, and together with Deacon Dan Burmeister will continue to provide pastoral care to all of you with the strength and wisdom provided by God. Be assured, even now, of my prayers for you. If, from time to time, you would pray for me, I would greatly appreciate it. What is this consecration? He described this consecration as being a form of “slavery” to Mary. Slavery means that we do nothing without her. We choose not to have a will apart from hers. He even invites us to wear a chain to signify that close bond with her. He elaborated the various consequences of that bond, saying that we share everything with her including our prayers, our intentions, our actions, and our merits. Fundamentally he is saying that we choose to become totally dependent on her: we receive everything through her and share everything with her. At first this sounds radical and may even sound a little scary or seem like a lot of work. As we come to understand the way the spirit of the world has infected our thinking, however, and as we get in touch with our own woundedness, we come to discover that this is a merciful gift from heaven. It is a sweet path of salvation. In fact, it is better than we could have ever hoped for! What it means is that there is a sweet, loving, perfect mother who actually wants to live in this kind of close relationship with us.

    August 15, 2021 The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Do you ever feel like you could use some help approaching God in your prayers? The Memorare is a prayer that reminds us that we have a wonderful advocate and protector in the mother of our Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, pictured at right. In our prayers to her we honor and worship her Son, who is more than happy to listen to His mother’s pleas on our behalf. The Memorare, printed below, invites us to ask the Blessed Mother for her assistance and her grace, especially when we feel most troubled in our daily lives. REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy inter- cession was left unaided. Inspired with this confi- dence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sor- rowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. The actual author of the Memorare is unknown. It has been traditionally attributed to the abbot St. Bernard of Clairvaux from the 12th century. This is possibly because it was championed byanotherBernard, the French priest Claude Bernard, who used it extensively in his ministry to the poor and to prisoners (including some quite hardened criminals!) in the 17th century. Claude Bernard credited reciting the Memorare with curing him of a serious illness. He had some 200,000 copies of the prayer printed up and distributed in leaflets in various languages during his lifetime.

Dominic, according to X-ray [I pictures of his · coffin was five feet five inches in height; Louis was more nearly six feet six. St. Dominic was thin and wiry; de Montfort was large, brawny and strong. He had in­ herited from his father a very strong and robust body. Often when he directed the building of churches, he was known to move timber and stones which were too heavy for the peasants with whom he worked and to whom he preached. On one occasion while preaching in a town square he was inter­ rupted and annoyed by a crowd of drinkers. They were seated at a table near the place where he was preaching and were singing and shouting. They were so loud and boisterous that the audience could not follow the sermon. De Montfort noticed this, and walking over to the men, seized the tables one by one, and turned them over. The crocks and bottles went scattering to the ground; the drinkers, to the nearest cover as fast as their legs would take them. Blessed Louis returned and placidly continued his sermon. Yet despite his great strength and fine physique, the effect of grace on his character was to make him gentle and mild. "I should have been the terror of France were it not for grace" he once said of himself.

Born in 1673 in France, Saint Louis de Montfort is best known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a seminary student he lived among the very poor in Paris and preached about the Gospel to them. He was ordained as a priest in 1700 and worked in a parish even though he wished to travel to North America to become a missionary. He longed to become a preacher so he joined the Dominicans, who were known for their preaching and for their devotion to the Rosary. He founded groups dedicated to the Rosary and led retreats inspired by a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Clement XI appointed him as an Apostolic Missionary in France and he travelled throughout France preaching parish missions and leading retreats. He then founded the Company of Mary and the Daughters of Wisdom. During his travels he found time to write his well-known books: True Devotion to Mary, The Secret of Mary, and the Secret of the Rosary. His preaching was not always well received; in fact, he was poisoned on one occasion and his health deteriorated. He died at the age of only 43 while preaching his final mission. 1.     Homily on St. Louis-Marie de 1 Montfort VENERABLE BRETHREN AND BELOVED SONS. When Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, whom, by the Guiding Spirit of the Holy Ghost, we have just honoured with the title of Saint, came to this hallowed City to venerate the Tomb of Peter, he learnt from our late predecessor Clement XI that he was not destined, as was his wish, to preach the Gospel in foreign lands but rather to bring back his own country to the true Christian way of living. Obeying wholeheartedly the instructions given him by the Holy Father, he returned to France and throughout his whole life did everything he could to carry out the wishes and counsels of Rome. The Apostolic Pilgrim covered the length and breadth of his native Brittany several times—on foot—visiting towns, cities, villages and out-of-the-way hamlets; and wherever this Apostle of Divine Truth, this keen propagator of virtue went, he brought about a complete renewal of Christian life: disputes were settled, discords reconciled, enmities suppressed; the smouldering embers of faith were rekindled and charity yielded most copious and salutary fruits.
