News Bulletin MAY • Volume : XXVII • No. : 11, May 2019 GABRIELITES - RANCHI RANCHI PROVINCE Monthly News Bulletin of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel * For Private Circulation only THE NEWLY PROFESSED BROTHERS GABRIELITES - RANCHI Message St. Louis de Montfort said, Mary is the safest, easiest, shortest and most perfect way of approaching Jesus and will surrender themselves to her, body and soul, without reserve in order to belong entirely to Jesus. ... The rosary is the most powerful weapon to touch the Heart of Jesus, Our Redeemer, who loves His Mother. We know that St. Montfort is known for his particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of praying the Rosary. He is considered as one of the early writers in the field of Mariology. His most notable works regarding Marian devotions are contained in The Secret of Mary and the True Devotion to Mary. Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is deeply rooted in scripture. If we want Christ to live His life in us and through us, if we want to be imitators of Christ, we must have a filial love for the Virgin Mary. By honouring His mother on earth, Jesus gave honour to His father in heaven. And Jesus himself, while hanging from the cross in John's gospel, entrusted Mary to John, and John to Mary. By this very act, Mary became the mother of all believers. As true Montfortians, devotion to Mary should be natural for us as we look to her as a mother. When we honour Mary, we honour Christ. As a Mother, she cares for her children and makes intercession for them. She asks the Father to bestow blessing upon them, which in turn has earned her the reward of being a mediatrix or distributrix of grace. God has accorded many privileges to Mary which have been made known through the teaching authority of the Church. During the month of May, the children of Mary flock to her intercession. Since May is Mary's month, let us take up the practice of the daily Rosary, add a few extra Marian prayers like the Memorare, read the books written by St. Montfort - The Secret of Mary, True Devotion to Mary, The secret of the Rosary etc. As the children of Mary, our Marian devotion is the ways in which we tell Mary we love her. During this month, let us give Mary our love. Ave Maria! Bro. Herman B. • Marian Consecration and Giving Us a 33-Day Plan to Prepare Our Souls for That Big Step
33-Day Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary Following the itinerary of Saint Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort with selections of writings from the Popes and Saints 1 Introduction Saint Louis de Montfort set forth a revolution of spirituality in teaching us about Marian consecration and giving us a 33-day plan to prepare our souls for that big step. What is this consecration? He described this consecration as being a form of “slavery” to Mary. Slavery means that we do nothing without her. We choose not to have a will apart from hers. He even invites us to wear a chain to signify that close bond with her. He elaborated the various consequences of that bond, saying that we share everything with her including our prayers, our intentions, our actions, and our merits. Fundamentally he is saying that we choose to become totally dependent on her: we receive everything through her and share everything with her. At first this sounds radical and may even sound a little scary or seem like a lot of work. As we come to understand the way the spirit of the world has infected our thinking, however, and as we get in touch with our own woundedness, we come to discover that this is a merciful gift from heaven. It is a sweet path of salvation. In fact, it is better than we could have ever hoped for! What it means is that there is a sweet, loving, perfect mother who actually wants to live in this kind of close relationship with us.

LOUIS-MARIE DE MONTFORT’S TRUE DEVOTION TO MARY Name: Seeger, Mary Olivia University of Dayton Advisor: Dr. Elizabeth Groppe The purpose and content of my thesis is to investigate and assess how St. Louis- Marie de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary contributes to a renewal of Marian devotion in the Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council. My thesis focuses on a close reading of the primary texts of St. Louis-Marie de Montfort (True Devotion to Mary), the Second Vatican Council (Lumen Gentium, the Constitution on the Church), and St. John Paul II (Redemptoris Mater). As part of my theological method, I renewed my Marian consecration and interviewed four other people who currently practice Marian devotion.

Post. 135 67100 L'Aquila (Italy) www.armatabianca.org [email protected] Translation of the Ecclesiastical Permission on the opposite page: Diocese of Ibarra According to can. 827 par. 3, the Reverend Father Andrea D'Ascanio ofm cap has submitted to my examination the book he has written “The apostles of the last times in Montfort and today”. After carefully examining the content of this work, which was supervised by Prof. Stefano De Fiores, I do not find in it anything contrary to the faith and morals of the Catholic Church. Moreover, I believe this work can help to effectively spread the devotion to the Most Blessed Virgin according to the writings of St. Louis Mary Grignion de Montfort and give a positive contribution on controversial topics of Mariology and eschatol- ogy concerning which there is often confusion among the faithful. Regarding the above, I grant permission to publish this book. • REMEMBER, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, That Never Was It Known That
August 15, 2021 The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Do you ever feel like you could use some help approaching God in your prayers? The Memorare is a prayer that reminds us that we have a wonderful advocate and protector in the mother of our Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, pictured at right. In our prayers to her we honor and worship her Son, who is more than happy to listen to His mother’s pleas on our behalf. The Memorare, printed below, invites us to ask the Blessed Mother for her assistance and her grace, especially when we feel most troubled in our daily lives. REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy inter- cession was left unaided. Inspired with this confi- dence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sor- rowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. The actual author of the Memorare is unknown. It has been traditionally attributed to the abbot St. Bernard of Clairvaux from the 12th century. This is possibly because it was championed byanotherBernard, the French priest Claude Bernard, who used it extensively in his ministry to the poor and to prisoners (including some quite hardened criminals!) in the 17th century. Claude Bernard credited reciting the Memorare with curing him of a serious illness. He had some 200,000 copies of the prayer printed up and distributed in leaflets in various languages during his lifetime.

BLESSED LOUIS MARIE GRIGNION DE MONTFORT MARK HEATH, O.P. II: The Man and the Book of the True Devotion HERE was one thing in which Blessed de Montfort was not like St. Dominic: his size. Dominic, according to X-ray [I pictures of his · coffin was five feet five inches in height; Louis was more nearly six feet six. St. Dominic was thin and wiry; de Montfort was large, brawny and strong. He had in herited from his father a very strong and robust body. Often when he directed the building of churches, he was known to move timber and stones which were too heavy for the peasants with whom he worked and to whom he preached. On one occasion while preaching in a town square he was inter rupted and annoyed by a crowd of drinkers. They were seated at a table near the place where he was preaching and were singing and shouting. They were so loud and boisterous that the audience could not follow the sermon. De Montfort noticed this, and walking over to the men, seized the tables one by one, and turned them over. The crocks and bottles went scattering to the ground; the drinkers, to the nearest cover as fast as their legs would take them. Blessed Louis returned and placidly continued his sermon. Yet despite his great strength and fine physique, the effect of grace on his character was to make him gentle and mild. "I should have been the terror of France were it not for grace" he once said of himself.

  • True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary
WHO WAS SAINT LOUIS DE MONTFORT? Saint Louis de Montfort is one of Our Lady’s greatest apostles. Pope John Paul II came to this understanding while he was a student in the seminary. He was having difficulty with the issue of devotion to Our Lady, perhaps fearful that devotion to Mary would in some way take attention away from devotion and consecration to Jesus. Then Pope John Paul II read Saint Louis de Montfort’s very popular and compelling book, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His conversion experience was so powerful that he spent his pontificate speaking about Marian Spirituality, culminating in his great legacy to Catholics: The Luminous Mysteries or the Mysteries of Light, in which he detailed five new mysteries of the Rosary. Today, every person has the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Pope John Paul II and, like he, commit to a fervent devotion to Mary. Saint Louis de Montfort’s astounding explanation of Mary's place in theology and in our spiritual lives underscores the reason dedication to Mary is completely Christ-centric. Mary leads us to Jesus because he is always with her. Saint Louis de Montfort understood the numinous relationship between Mary and Jesus. It is a truism to say, “To Jesus through Mary.” Mary, the first apostle and the first Christian, is the easiest road to Jesus Christ. It took the inspiration of a saint, like Saint Louis de Montfort, to realize that Jesus and Mary are inseparable and that all devotion to Mary is automatically a devotion to Jesus Christ.

Born in 1673 in France, Saint Louis de Montfort is best known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a seminary student he lived among the very poor in Paris and preached about the Gospel to them. He was ordained as a priest in 1700 and worked in a parish even though he wished to travel to North America to become a missionary. He longed to become a preacher so he joined the Dominicans, who were known for their preaching and for their devotion to the Rosary. He founded groups dedicated to the Rosary and led retreats inspired by a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Clement XI appointed him as an Apostolic Missionary in France and he travelled throughout France preaching parish missions and leading retreats. He then founded the Company of Mary and the Daughters of Wisdom. During his travels he found time to write his well-known books: True Devotion to Mary, The Secret of Mary, and the Secret of the Rosary. His preaching was not always well received; in fact, he was poisoned on one occasion and his health deteriorated. He died at the age of only 43 while preaching his final mission. 1.
