INSTRUCTIONS: Boho Pouf by Claudia Sieb

SUPPLIES: • About 1 yard upholstery or outdoor fabric Interested in more tips for East Valley living • About 1 yard 1" Batting or new homes in the growing • Foam – I purchased a piece of 24 x 96 foam that is 2" thick, about $12. (See pattern) • 8 large buttons • Matching thread, dressmaker pins, sewing machine, scissors etc.

1 SEW BODY Print and tape together Top, Bottom & Sides pattern. Using your pattern, cut two hex pieces for Top and Bottom of pouf. Cut six Side pieces. Note: If you use striped fabric, as we did, you may want to cut the Side pieces on the diagonal. In that case, be sure to cut three one direction and three the opposite direction to make them meet diagonally, chevron-style.

2 SEW ON “FEET” Using one hex fabric piece (Bottom piece) transfer marks indicating where buttons are sewn. Stack two buttons and sew securely to right side at button mark. Repeat for all four. This is the bottom of your pouf. Do not sew buttons to Top hex piece.

3 SEW SIDES TO TOP All seams are ½". Sew three Side pieces together, sides to sides, right sides together. Repeat for other three pieces but do NOT sew all six pieces together. Pin tope edge of the center sewn “Three Side Pieces” to one edge of Top hex shape right sides together. Sew the center Side piece on first. Pin left Side of your “Three Side Pieces” to the hex and sew. Pin right Side of your “Three Side Pieces” to the hex and sew. Using your other “Three Side Pieces” that you have sewn together, repeat for the other edges of the hex Top.

4 Line up the bottom edges of the first “Three Side Pieces” to the hex Bottom and pin, then sew Bottom hex to Side. Line up the vertical edges of the first “Three Side Pieces” with the vertical edges of the second “Three Side Pieces”. Pin and sew these last two edges. Note that you have left three sides of your Bottom hex open. You need this room to stuff the pouf.

5 STUFF Lay pattern hex piece on top of batting, and cut batting loosely around pattern, with an extra margin of batting about 1½" all the way around. This does not have to be perfect. Lay this piece inside pouf top. Using your pattern, note the dashed line is the sewing allowance. Note the DOTTED line is the cutting line for the foam and the foamcore/cardboard. Using DOTTED line, cut out one foamcore/cardboard. Using same DOTTED line, cut out about 5 layers of foam. Lay in a foam core layer, lining up hex points of foam, to the pouf Top. Lay in another and another until you have about the height of the pouf (5 layers) Now, cut a long strip of batting the height of the pouf. Using your hand, shove it in the sides, between the foam and the Side fabric. Using your hands, push the batting smoothly all the way around the pouf, all six sides. You may need two strips. This is what makes the pouf “poufy”. Smooth and even it out. Slide in your foamcore/cardboard on top of everything. Finally, pull the Bottom taut over the cardboard. Pin the three open sides, fold in raw edges and using a blanket stitch, hand sticth remaining open sides to Bottom. (I pinned and stitched the middle side first, then the remaining edges.)
