DOES MUCH WENLOCK NEED 200 MORE HOUSES? Shropshire Council is entering a further period of public consultation on housing growth. This will allow public scrutiny of changes affecting preferred sites in Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock. Shropshire Council’s preferred site for 80 dwellings in Much Wenlock, between Hunters Gate and Bridgnorth Road, has been withdrawn and replaced by a bid for an estate of 120 dwellings. This proposal, together with the current level of housebuilding will, over the period until 2038, far exceed the growth guideline – now increased, without consultation, to 200 dwellings in the town. Whilst there will be some economic benefit locally, in Cllr David Turner's view there will be a major impact on Much Wenlock’s fragile infrastructure from development nearby. This will arise from building 1,000 homes in Buildwas, 80 dwellings in Cressage, and development further away that will pile further pressure on the A458 and A4169 as these roads weave through the town’s conservation area. Much Wenlock Town Council holds a meeting on 20th Aug to consider its response. Consultation will commence on 3rd August and run 'til 30th September. Whatever your views on the proposals for Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth, Broseley, Buildwas, Cressage and further afield, David urges you to take part in the consultation.
