GLOBAL METRO PROJECTS REPORT Metropolises are hubs of political, economic and social activity with increasing demands for high quality transport and telecommunication infrastructure. Metropolitan railway (metrorail, also known as metro, subway, underground or the tube) systemsoffer an effective, efficient and sustainable mobility option. In high-density urban areas, metros form the backbone of integrated public transport systems and facilitate transit-oriented development. With increasing mobility demand and growing congestion, investment in the metrorail sector is expected to continue growing over the next 20 years. New cities are opting for metro systems and cities with existing systems are undertaking modernisation and/or network expansion.
