Adding a Background (Optional) The first step to create a Drag and Drop activity is to add a background to your page. Adding a background is optional; however, it makes your flipchart more attractive. 1. On the toolstrip, select the Resource Library .

2. If you do not see the Resource Library open after selecting the icon, it may be rolled up. Selecting the white arrow will roll the library up and down.

The Resource Library defaults to the last location visited.

3. If Shared Resources is not selected, select the Shared Resources icon.

The shared resources are organized into 17 different categories which are displayed down the left- hand side.

The Resource Library defaults to the category and sub-category that you were in the last time. If this is your first time launching the Resource Library, it will default to the Shared Collections category.

4. Select the Shared Backgrounds category.

5. Under Shared Backgrounds, select the + to expand the desired sub-category. For example: Basic Backgrounds

6. Select the desired sub-category. For example: Colored Backgrounds

7. The colored backgrounds are displayed. Drag and drop the desired background onto the flipchart page.

Adding Shapes After adding a background, the next step is to add shapes to the page so that students can drag and drop the text and/or images into the right category. 1. In the Resource Library, select the Shapes category. Note: If you closed out of the Resource Library after adding your background, reopen the library by selecting the Resource Library icon on your toolstrip.

2. Under Shared Shapes, select the desired sub-category. For example: Squares and Rectangles

3. Drag and drop the desired shape onto the page. Note: Do not double-click the object. Double-clicking will open the object in a new instead of placing it on your flipchart page. If this happens, click the X to close the new window.

4. Click the X to close the Resource Library.

5. Drag and drop the rectangle to the desired location on the page.

6. Use the pick-up handles to resize the shape. Using the bottom-right pick-up handle resizes the object proportionally. Hover your mouse over the bottom-right pick-up handle until you see a double-sided arrow. Then, click, hold, and drag to increase the size of the shape.

You can also change the color of the shape as long as the shape is selected. On the Main , select a desired color.

7. To duplicate, double-click the object.

8. Click the Duplicate icon.

Note: If you hover your mouse over an icon, a description of the icon is displayed.

9. Drag and drop the duplicated object to the desired location. Note: The duplicated object will be on top of the original.

Part III: Adding Text

1. On the Main Toolbar, select the Text tool.

2. Click anywhere on the page to create a . A text box and the Text Edit Toolbox are displayed. Make the necessary formatting changes before typing.

3. When ready, begin typing. You can continue to add additional text to your page by typing in the same text box or creating additional text boxes. To freely move the text on the page, you need to create multiple text boxes. When the Text tool is selected, anytime you click on the page with your mouse, a new text box is created.

4. To modify the text formatting after typing, select the All to highlight the text.

5. All and toolboxes can be moved anywhere on the screen by clicking, holding, and dragging the black title bar.

6. The width of text boxes can be resized by grabbing the pick-up handle on the right side of the text box and dragging it to the right to make it wider or the left to make it narrower. When clicking and dragging, hold the mouse click until you are finished resizing the text box.

7. Before repositioning text on the page, click the X to close the Text Edit Toolbox.

Notice: When you close the Text Edit Toolbox, the Text tool turns off and the Marquee Select tool is active. With the Marquee Select tool turned on, you can drag and drop your text boxes anywhere on the page.

Part IV: Adding Images To add pictures to your text, 1. Select the Resource Library icon. The Resource Library opens to the category and sub-category that you were in the last time, which in this example is Shared Shapes>Squares and Rectangles. 2. Select the Shared Images icon.

3. Under Shared Images, select the + sign to expand the desired sub-category.

4. Select the + sign to continue to expand the Resource Tree.

5. Select the desired sub-category. For example, select Beverages.

6. Drag and drop the desired image onto the page.

Note: Do not double-click the object. Double-clicking will open the object in a new window instead of placing it on your flipchart page. If this happens, click the X to close the new window.

7. Continue to find additional images to use on your flipchart page. For example, select Fats_Oils_Sweets

8. Drag and drop the desired image onto the page.

9. Continue to find images in the Resource Library to use on the flipchart page. When finished, click the X to close the Resource Library.

Part V: Grouping Text and Images into One Object Resizing the Images: Use the pick-up handles to resize the images. Using the bottom-right pick-up handle resizes the object proportionally. 1. Hover your mouse over the bottom-right pick-up handle until you see a double-sided arrow.

2. Then, click, hold, and drag to decrease the size of the images.

3. Drag and drop the images to the desired locations.

Wrapping the Text: Use the pick-up handles to wrap the text. 1. Hover your mouse over the right pick-up handle until you see a double-sided arrow.

2. Then, click, hold, and drag to the left to decrease the width of the text box.

3. Drag and drop the text to the desired locations.

Grouping the Text and Image 1. Select the image (if not already selected) and then hold down the Shift button and select the text.

The pick-up handles are extended so a box is formed around both the image and the text. A Group/Ungroup icon is displayed that looks like a puzzle piece.

2. Select the Group icon to group the image and text together as one object.

Note: Once a piece of text is grouped with an image you can no longer edit the text unless you ungroup the objects.

It is recommended to test your activity before using it with students to make sure that each image and matching text are grouped together as one object. Drag and drop the object to the correct category and then drag it back to the center.
