Section 1: Overview Is this course for me?

This programme offers students aged 16 – 25 the chance to spend an unforgettable summer vacation living and learning in London. Combine English language lessons with visits to some of London’s most famous landmarks. You’ll be based at the superb central location of South Bank University — located right on the with views of the London Eye and The Shard.

Section 2: Programme content and structure Your classes

English lessons will explore British culture — specifically, the history, politics and social economy of London. Your classes will take place at one of the main university buildings — recently completely renovated and just 5 minutes’ walk from your accommodation. The modern classrooms are all equipped with data projectors.

Your meal plan

A newly refurbished campus dining facility is just a short walk from the accommodation. Breakfast and dinner is provided every day with a choice of meals.

Your accommodation

You will live at David Bomberg house or McLaren House— residence facilities of South Bank University. The residence offers single rooms with a private bathroom arranged in shared flats, with a communal kitchen dining room for each flat (please note the kitchen is not available for cooking). There is also a social room and laundry facility on site. David Bomberg House is just 3 minutes’ walk from the nearest tube station (Borough) and is very close to London Bridge station. McLaren house is equidistant to the school and a 5-minute walk to Southwark or Waterloo stations Both are within close walking distance of the Tate Modern Gallery and the Globe Theatre.

Social activities

Our Discover London programme includes a weekly travel card (zones 1 and 2) so you can explore London in your own time. Your programme includes 1 x organised full-day visit per week You will also be able to join 3 x free evening activities per week, such as a movie night, disco, sports evening or quiz night. If you want to join other optional organised trips you can pay for these on a “pay-as-you-go” basis at the centre. Brighton — beach and Sea Life Centre Oxford — University walking tour and Ashmolean Museum Portsmouth — HMS Victory Cambridge — walking tour and shopping

Please note 16 and 17 year olds will need to have some level of supervision at all times.

Section 3: Optional excursions Customise your course with additional optional excursions, available on a pay-as-you-go basis. All optional trips require a minimum amount of 30 students. Optional excursions may be booked directly at centre and are subject to availability.

Full day to Windsor and Windsor

Price: £40 Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years. It is an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen, whose flag flies from the Round Tower when she is in residence.

Thorpe Park

Price: £60 Thorpe Park is one of the top theme parks in the UK. Major attractions include a large water slide, a number of rollercoasters and dark ride Derren Brown’s Ghost Train.

Full day to Canterbury and Cathedral

Price: £38 Canterbury Cathedral is home of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of . It had huge religious and political significance in medieval times, and its importance as a centre of pilgrimage increased further after the murder of Thomas Becket there in 1170.

Full day to Hampton Court

Price: £40 is a royal palace in the town of East Molesey, Richmond upon Thames, Greater London. Along with St James’s Palace, it is one of only two surviving owned by King Henry VIII.

London Eye

Price: £25 (age 17 and under); £29 (age 18+) The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. The structure is 135 metres tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres. When it was built in 1999 it was the world’s tallest Ferris wheel.

Tower Bridge Experience

Price: £12 (age 17 and under); £16 (age 18+) London’s Tower Bridge has become one of the city’s most iconic structures, and offers fabulous views from its glass-floored high-level walkways. A permanent exhibition explains the history and engineering of this unique Victorian bridge.

St. Pauls Cathedral

Price: £18 (age 17 and under); £22 (age 18+) St Paul’s Cathedral sits at the highest point of the City of London. The present church dates back to the late 17th century, and was designed by Sir as was part of a major rebuilding programme after the Great Fire of London. It hosts some of the highest profile weddings and funerals in the UK.

Kensington Palace

Price: £21 (age 17 and under); £25 (age 18+) , whose first royal residents were King William III and Queen Mary II, was built in 1605 by Sir George Coppin. It has always been the home of one royal or another, and its most recent inhabitants were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

London Dungeon

Price: £20 (age 17 and under); £24 (age 18+) The London Dungeon is one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions, and recreates some of London’s most gruesome historical events! It uses a mixture of live actors, special effects and rides.

Madame Tussauds

Price: £31 (age 17 and under); £35 (age 18+) Madame Tussauds is a museum that contains waxwork models of famous people. You can visit a range of different collections, have your picture taken alongside A – list celebrities, and for something a little scarier brave the Chamber gallery where infamous serial killers lurk!

Throughout its history, the tower has served many purposes: it housed the royal mint, a menagerie, an armoury and barracks for troops.
