Napoleonic Wars – Hex Scenario NAPOLEONIC WARS – HEX SCENARIO Battle of Neresheim – 11 August 1796. Background Two French armies, one under Moreau and one under Jourdan have invaded Austrian territory on the upper Rhine and Danube Rivers. Austrian Archduke Charles is manoeuvring on the Danube attempting to unite his scattered forces so that he can defeat one of these armies in detail. However, he has first to break contact with Moreau. In order to do this he launches an attack. Page 1 of 3 www.hexesandminiatures.com NAPOLEONIC WARS – HEX SCENARIO Organisation Both sides have three corps for activation purposes. Terrain The River is unfordable. Set Up The deployment areas for each corps are shown on the map. The French deploy first. No units commence prepared or in reserve status. Units are set up anywhere in their corps deployment area including half hexes at the side of their deployment box [but not the half hexes at the edge of the board, these are always off limits]. Reinforcements The reinforcements arrive in reserve status. The hex they arrive in is the first hex of a two hex move as per normal reinforcement rules. They arrive in the Status Phase and no Momentum points are required to bring them on. They can be brought in on any hex in the reinforcement area they are assigned to. Turn 10 - Delmas arrives in any of the arrowed hexes. Victory Conditions If neither side breaks the other within 30 turns the battle is a draw. The number of Reichstag seats held by these parties fell from 22I to I40, out of the total of397; they never again achieved more than I69. To the multitude of problems left by Bismarck to his successorswas there- fore added one of parliamentaryarithmetic: how was the chancellor to organize a Reichstag majority when the traditional governmental parties by themselves were no longer large enough, and the intransigently anti-governmental SPD was constantly increasing its representation? It was in this situation that the role of the Centre party in Wilhelmine politics became decisive, for between I890 and I9I4 the party possessed a quarter of the seats in the Reichstag, and thus held the balance of power between Left and Right.

  • Scenario and Campaign List - Introduction
Republican Bayonets on the Rhine Scenario and Campaign List - Introduction List Comments The scenario list for Republican Bayonets on the Rhine includes 28 historical battles and over 200 scenarios that are in the main folder. This also includes Bonus, select campaign scenarios and also 15 min turn format scenarios. The players should note that the scenario file name lists whether a scenario is HTH - Head to Head or SOLO - meaning that it has AI scripts and can be played against the program. There were several HTH scenarios in the game which because of their complexity do not have a Solo counterpart. Others were simplified to allow for a more balanced situation when converted to a Solo setting. Three design scenarios are included for Scenarios Designers to use as well as those that would like to see all of the uniforms for the soldiers for this time period. They show the layout of the images that are part of the game. Key to the List Each scenario has a filename, scenario name and amount of turns on each line. Filename - has a number, the name of the action/battle and whether it is a Head to Head (HTH) or Solo (SOLO) scenario. If the scenario is a variant then the letter V followed by a number is listed after the name of the action/battle. Examples: Filename Title 001_Valmy_FB-H_HTH.scn 001. The Battle of Valmy FB-Full Battle, H-Historical, HTH-meant for Head to Head play 016_Jemappes_SG-H_SOLO.scn 016. Jemappes: Assaulting the Northern Flank SG-A segment of the full battle, H-Historical, SOLO-meant for Solo play Other abbreviations: V-Variant (V1, V2, etc) V1-1st Variant of the historical scenario 1D-1st Day of the battle, 2D-2nd Day (etc) Bonus - Bonus scenario Camp - Campaign scenario Order of Battle Review Scenarios See the OB_View folder No listing is provided for these scenarios.

This was a revelation to a young student who had never before laid hands on an old keyboard, nor thought about how one must phrase and the tempos one must adopt when playing into a voluminous room with a lengthy acoustic decay.

  • Scenario Designer Notes
Republican Bayonets on the Rhine – Scenario Designer Notes Introduction Republican Bayonets on the Rhine (hereafter RBR) covers the battles from the beginning of the French Revolutionary Wars in 1792 to their final conclusion on the fields of Hohenlinden in 1800. More than just a companion game to Campaign Marengo it defines the era more precisely with the evolution of the French army of the “levee en masse,” First and Second Amalgamations, to the professional army it had become by the end of the War of the Second Coalition. The project goes back to 2008 when initial production on the battles of Hohenlinden, First and Second Zürich, Würzburg and Bergen took place. With an array of artwork that dwarfs that of Campaign Marengo by a factor of almost 5:1 the entire range of European armies that fought in the major battles of this time period. Organization The five major subdivisions which are included in RBR includes the early campaigns (one entity), the Rhine Campaign of 1796 (Charles vs. Moreau and Jourdan), the Rhine Campaign of 1799 (Charles vs. Jourdan and Masséna), the Noord-Holland Campaign of 1799 (Brune vs. York) and the Rhine Campaign of 1800. A large list of military units was compiled that participated in the campaigns. More than two hundred and forty images represent the military units that fought in the battles covered in the product. The team went with the concept that better scenarios and fewer variants would lead to a more enjoyable experience for the players. Thus many of the variants were playtested as much as the historical scenarios.

CONQUERING THE NATURAL FRONTIER: FRENCH EXPANSION TO THE RHINE RIVER DURING THE WAR OF THE FIRST COALITION, 1792-1797 Jordan R. Hayworth, M.A. Dissertation Prepared for Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS December 2015 APPROVED: Michael V. McCaslin, Chair of the Department of History Costas Tsatsoulis, Dean of the Robert B. Toulouse Graduate School Hayworth, Jordan R. Conquering the Natural Frontier: French Expansion to the Rhine River during the War of the First Coalition, 1792-1797. Doctor of Philosophy (European History), December 2015, 487 pp., 14 maps, references, 445 titles. After conquering Belgium and the Rhineland in 1794, the French Army of the Sambre and Meuse faced severe logistical, disciplinary, and morale problems that signaled the erosion of its capabilities. The army’s degeneration resulted from a revolution in French foreign policy designed to conquer the natural frontiers, a policy often falsely portrayed as a diplomatic tradition of the French monarchy. In fact, the natural frontiers policy – expansion to the Rhine, the Pyrenees, and the Alps – emerged only after the start of the War of the First Coalition in 1792. Moreover, the pursuit of natural frontiers caused more controversy than previously understood. No less a figure than Lazare Carnot – the Organizer of Victory – viewed French expansion to the Rhine as impractical and likely to perpetuate war. While the war of conquest provided the French state with the resources to survive, it entailed numerous unforeseen consequences.
