Sita Devi Assurance in Yoga 9 Yogendra EDITOR’S NOTE Namaste, International Women's Day is a collective day of global celebration. Throwing light on social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, this day also marks the need for unity and action. Late Shrimati Sita Devi Yogendra and Pujya Maa, Smt. Hansaji Jayadeva Yogendra, of the legendary family of The Yoga Institute, have been torch bearers for women in the global Yoga fraternity. Shrimati Sita Devi Yogendra, our Founder’s wife was the rst female yoga Guru, opening the path of yoga for women. Decades back, she strongly expressed her views that, “since Yoga claims to be a positive science, it is foregone conclusion that its various methods and exercises are undoubtedly equally useful to both man and woman. As such it makes no distinction between either caste, creed, nationality or, above all, between the two sexes. I have already observed that practical Yoga does not close its doors to women." Authored by her, Yoga Physical Education for Women, has been hailed the world over as the rst authoritative book on yoga for women written by a woman. Leading on the path, Smt. Hansaji, wife of Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra and present Director of The Yoga Institute, has dedicated her life to the running of the Institute. Renowned as the First Lady of Yoga, she is the epitome of householder Yoga. She continues to empower all women, not just with talks but with action. She has been involved with women’s rescue programs for decades and is working tirelessly to provide free counseling, food, hygiene, and yoga education as well as free healthcare to thousands of women. Free yoga camps for women are organized every year to empower them with yoga education. The Yoga way of life offers the pillar of stability and wings to grow. So, what better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than with a seminar to educate women to manage their nances and help them be self-reliant. Wishing great success to every woman around the world and Happy Holi!
