On 16th Feb 2018, Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra surrendered to this union of individual energy and universal energy. Fondly known as Dr Sahab, he had mastered the art of self control. It isn’t a wonder that his father and Founder of The Yoga Institute, Shri Yogendraji once said of Dr. Jayadeva, “He is a true Yogi. He never gets angry.” Dr. Jayadeva always said, real Yoga is balance of Chitta/Mind in any circumstances. An exemplary yogi, he lived up to this saying verbatim until his last breath. A simple man and a true Yogi, Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra was born in 1929. As the President of The Yoga Institute, he continued to carry on the Founder’s legacy in his silent and sincere way. He played a pivotal role in making fundamental changes to further cause of Yoga and spread message of holistic health and peace through Yoga for well-being of humanity. A scholar, a visionary, a philosopher and a Guru to millions of Yoga followers, he propagated Yoga as a way to encourage conscious evolution. He will continue to enlighten our paths with his great teachings forever. Revered as an epitome of modesty, when asked if he has any disciples, he virtuously responded, “No, except in a way, my wife.” The world of Yoga and The Yoga Institute are blessed as his legacy is being continued by his wife Smt. Hansaji Yogendra and millions of sadhakas. Dr Sahab also said that life should be a celebration and one must continue celebrating forever. This indeed he taught us even in his last moments by giving us a reason to celebrate with the divine birth of junior yogi. As the hands of the clock crossed 12 midnight, the Universe was making way for a new life to enter in form of small bundle of joy with two hands and two feets in to the Yogendra family. With the divine blessings, the legacy continues as Hrishiji and I welcomed our little baby boy on 16th Feb 2018. After hearing the good news of his new grandson, within a few minutes, Dr. Jayadeva chose to breathe his last and moved on to a higher journey. Pranee H. 4NCE Whenever we see Dr. Jayadeva, we are reminded of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra: "When one becomes disinterested even in Omniscience One attains perpetual discriminative enlightenment from which ensues the concentration known as Dharmamegha (Virtue Pouring Cloud)". - Yoga Sutra 4.29 He represents a mind free of negativity and totally virtuous. Whoever comes in contact with him will only be blessed. The Master, Dr Jayadeva, was teaching in the Yoga Teachers Training class at The Yoga Institute. After the simple but inspiring talk, as usual he said. IIAnyquestions?" After many questions about spirituality and Yoga, one young student asked, "Doctor Sahab how did you reach such a high state of development?" In his simple self-effacing way he did not say anything. Theyoung enthusiast persisted, 'Please tell us.II He just said, "Adisciplined mind." Here was the definition of Yoga of Patanjali, "roqa Chitta Vritti Nirodha" Restraining the modifications of the mind is Yoga. Naturally the next sutra also followed "Tada Drashtu Svarupe Avasthanam". "So that the spirit is established in its own true nature." Recently, there was a function to observe the 93fd Foundation Day of The Yoga Institute which was founded by Dr. Jayadeva's father, Shri Yogendraji - the Householder Yogi and known as "the Father of Modern Yoga Renaissance". In the Name of Krishna: The Cultural Landscape of a North Indian Pilgrimage Town A DISSERTATION SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA BY Sugata Ray IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Frederick M. Asher, Advisor April 2012 © Sugata Ray 2012 Acknowledgements They say writing a dissertation is a lonely and arduous task. But, I am fortunate to have found friends, colleagues, and mentors who have inspired me to make this laborious task far from arduous. It was Frederick M. Asher, my advisor, who inspired me to turn to places where art historians do not usually venture. The temple city of Khajuraho is not just the exquisite 11th-century temples at the site. Rather, the 11th-century temples are part of a larger visuality that extends to contemporary civic monuments in the city center, Rick suggested in the first class that I took with him. I learnt to move across time and space. To understand modern Vrindavan, one would have to look at its Mughal past; to understand temple architecture, one would have to look for rebellions in the colonial archive. Catherine B. Asher gave me the gift of the Mughal world – a world that I only barely knew before I met her. Today, I speak of the Islamicate world of colonial Vrindavan. Cathy walked me through Mughal mosques, tombs, and gardens on many cold wintry days in Minneapolis and on a hot summer day in Sasaram, Bihar. The Islamicate Krishna in my dissertation thus came into being.

How the British divided Punjab into Hindu and Sikh By Sanjeev Nayyar December 2016 This is chapter 2 from the E book on Khalistan Movement published by www.swarajyamag.com During a 2012 visit to Naina Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh, about an hour's drive from Anandpur Sahib, I wondered why so many Sikhs come to the temple for darshan. The answer lies in the events of 1699. In the Chandi Charitra, the tenth Guru says that in the past god had deputed Goddess Durga to destroy evil doers. That duty was now assigned to him hence he wanted her blessings. So he invited Pandit Kesho from Kashi to conduct the ceremony at the hill of Naina Devi. The ceremony started on Durga Ashtami day, in the autumn of October 1698, and lasted for six months. At the end of this period, the sacred spring Navratras began on 21 March 1699. Then, “When all the ghee and incense had been burnt and the goddess had yet not appeared, the Guru came forward with a naked sword and, flashing it before the assembly declared: ‘This is the goddess of power!” This took place on 28 March 1699, the Durga Ashtami day. The congregation was then asked to move to Anandpur, where on New Year Day of 1st Baisakh, 1699, the Guru would create a new nation.” 3 On 30 March 1699, at Anandpur, Govind Singhji gave a stirring speech to the assembly about the need to protect their spiritual and temporal rights. He then asked if anyone would offer his head in the services of God, Truth and Religion.

Introduction to Avatara(Incornation) The word 'avatara' means 'one who descends' (from Sanskrit avatarati). The descents of Vishnu from Vaikuntha to earth are his avatars or incarnations. The form in each time he descents will be different because the needs of the world each time are different. The different avatars thus balances and reinforce the dharma that rules and regulations that maintain order. They are harmed when the demands of evil clash with the good for order. As man's understanding of the world changes, desires change and so do concepts of order.. Social stability and peace on the earth must not be compromised, yet new ideas that are good for mankind must be respected. Vishnu's descents are not just about The word specifically refers to one who descends from the spiritual sky. The word 'incarnation' is can also mean as 'one who assumed flesh body’ 2.

This is a work executed in 1935 by a modern Indian Artist, who is a pupil of Abanindranath Tagore and Nandalal Bose, and who was Director of the Kalā-Bhavana at Rabindranath Tagore’s Santiniketan School and Visva-Bharati University. The sculpture reproduced on the endpaper depicts a scene where three soothsayers are interpreting to King Śuddhodhana the dream of Queen Māyā, mother of Lord Buddha. JOURNAL OF THE YOGA INSTITUTE FIRST ISSUED IN 1933 VOL LXI NO.6 PAGES 32 I EMAG YOGA AND TOTAL HEALTH JANUARY 2017 A TRIBUTE TO LIFE AND WELL BEING 98YEARS OF YOGA 01 We lead our life but are we thinking about life itself, the purpose of life? Who am I? Why am I here in this universe? What are my duties? Many questions, but unfortunately our attention does not go that way - we are too busy with our day to day work. Every single practice in yoga points to that direction. When we sit in Sukhasana, the mind can get quiet. In a quiet mood, some clarity can occur, some thinking can happen. These are opportunities during the day when we get such a chance. We have to consider whether we are utilizing such opportunities. We are too busy with our day to day work, we do not have any time to ourselves - this has been going on all our life and it will remain. But in the midst of all this, isn’t it our duty also to understand a little more about life? Or should we just keep carrying on like animals - eat, drink and be merry? This is something that can be considered. Great people, who were respected, were able to think a little more, think a little deeper and improve their life. They were able to help others also as a result. We can do that, but we never think on these things. We just think on continuously earning, eating and enjoying.
