Using Respondus LockDown Browser

About Respondus LockDown Browser

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the test environment, making students unable to print, copy/paste, or switch to different applications during an online test or exam. Students should use Respondus LockDown Browser only for test that require the use of the application.

If you are taking an exam that requires Respondus LockDown Browser, upon accessing the exam in a browser other than the LockDown Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari), you will receive a message stating that you must take the test in LockDown Browser.

To Install LockDown Browser If you are using a computer on campus, LockDown Browser is already installed and you may skip this section.

1. In an internet browser such as Internet Explorer, go to http://www.respondus.com/lockdown/information.pl?ID=354814027. 2. Select the operating system for the computer you are using: Windows or Mac.

3. Select the type of computer you are using:

4. Select Server 1.

5. Save the file to the desktop. 6. Return to your computer’s desktop and then double click the LockDown Browser Icon.

7. Click Run if prompted. 8. Click the Install Button. 9. Select your language preference, and then click Next. 10. Respondus LockDown Browser will begin installing.

To Take an Exam 1. Close all programs, unless one is used to connect you to the Internet. 2. Locate the “LockDown Browser” icon on the desktop and double click it. 3. You will be taken to the Blackboard Login Page. 4. If prompted to close a program (e.g. screen capture, messaging, etc.) choose Yes when prompted. 5. Login to your Blackboard course, navigate to the test and select it.

6. Read the instructions for the test and then click Begin.

7. A dialog box will appear. If a test password is required by the instructor to start the test, enter the password and click Continue. If your professor has not given you a password, select No and then Continue.

8. Blackboard will fill in a Password whether you entered one or not. DO NOT ALTER THIS PASSORD. Click Begin.

9. The test will then start. Once a test has been started with Respondus LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the Submit button is clicked.
